I LOVE Canal Saint Martin and the surrounding area. SO much. Grab my guide and all my recommendations at parisinmypocket.com for so much more than I could fit into one video
Before we left yesterday we went out to the canals. A new experience to say the least. Thanks again Jay. Also thanks to the stranger for guidance. Actually he started telling me about the underground canals. 😊😊😊
The very first time I used one of the public toilets I was kind of desperate and didn't know about the wash cycle, so I rushed right in after somebody exited and got my shoes thoroughly washed. A lesson I will never forget.
Absolutely love that neighborhood! Great place to walk + manger sur la pouce! Or to sit along the canal + drink + eat. Feels more like a Parisian neighborhood instead of just a tourist pass-through. Love the canal ride, too! Thanks for the ideas te: local spots. That jacket is a great color!
My last trip to Paris was too short and with your help jay, these videos just keep giving me more reason to come to Paris again and see things I wouldn’t have known about without your help
In all the times I’ve been to Paris and even when I lived there, I’ve not been to the canal. That needs to be remedied asap I think ! That does look a fantastic buzzing part of the city ! I liked that Jacket btw and great to see Puxan! Cheers Jay !
Great videos! I've been before and returning to Paris 1-5 November with a friends. We're gonna stay by the canal and I'm making some lists of stuff for us
The jacket you sported looks like a classic "chore" jacket only in while. I have my grandfathers blue chore jacket (I think it called it a bleu travail jacket too). Must be about 100 years old now.
My fav part as well! Great minds!! Next trip we want to do an Airbnb there - or is there a better rental option? May be covered in your book wh we will def purchase!
I noticed that the restaurant Bouillon Republique is right near the end of the Canal. Would you say it would be a good idea to boat down the canal and then have a meal at the Bouillon?
Thanks for all you do @JaySwanson! I'm binging your videos in prep for a trip to Paris in September. Two questions: 1. What jazz club(s) in Paris do you recommend? 2. Is there a Jay Swanson for Amsterdam? I know, not possible, but is there an Amsterdam based vlogger you recommend?
Thanks for the comment! We don't have much jazz to recommend as of yet - but it's a goal for the future. There are a few clubs on Rue des Lombards which is a good place to start. The wine bar Le 18 Oberkampf, which is a favorite wine bar of ours, also has jazz certain evenings. There's no Jay Swanson in Amsterdam, but our friends over at IndiTravel (www.inditravelguide.com) are working to compile list of creators produce similar content, so we'd recommend popping over there to see who they recommend! Hope this helps - Emily & team
The Time(e) Traveller uploaded a video of a boat trip on the underground canal: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8uFbPgFqeGI.htmlsi=QV-1hAFzudS8sMQk
And also giving his trade mark denim jacket and boots a break also.Thank god.Lets hope he makes his vid longer.Noticed the videos getting shorter and shorter
The problem is and this is not unique to you, but well over 50% of the comments about you and not the place you are visiting. That’s why I call them vanity projects. Nothing about Republic, nothing about the 2 train stations, nothing about the vibe and how the 10th has changed from a working class area with a hard edge to the “ Brooklyn “ of Paris. Nothing about “ little India” or the street art. My suggestion is focus on the place and not yourself.
This epitomizes everything that is wrong with these self produced travel videos which is too much emphasis on the presenter. Hey folks you and I don’t just mean this presenter, is that you are just not that interesting. Most just feel like vanity projects with way too much face time and a lack of useable information. After watching this I still have no feel for the 10th other than there is a canal and a place to get a haircut and pork bao.
You can literally hundreds of recs in my guide to Paris here at : parisinmypocket.com. Oh, you also can find 100 free recommendations to Paris in this 20 in 20 series that you've stumbled upon. Not to mention lots of other free lists of restaurants, monuments, neighborhood, etc on the rest of my channel. (But if you don't like quality coffee, best to move on I think.. because you won't find your way away from that on this channel.)
That I do! You can actually slow me down - if you click on settings at the bottom of the video you can alter the playback speed - you can even make me chatter faster ;)
