I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. I didnt know the Olympics was being held in Paris when I booked my once in a lifetime trip (booked in Nov 2023 for early June 2024 trip) so it was heartbreaking to have all of this construction and things being closed off. But once I remembered that Paris is more than its monuments, and simply avoided those, it was still a dream trip. I should feel cheated, but I don't.

Love that you don't feel cheated. I agree with you - why ruin an amazing trip by being bummed out? There are plenty of people who'd sulk the days away, but Paris has SO much to offer, I hope you were able to see an extra special local side of the city that you might not have gotten to otherwise! So glad you had a wonderful time!

Jay, thanks for the shout out! I was just in the Tuileries a few weeks ago. It sure changed fast! Looks like you did the Txango Tours route- I took a ride with them when my daughter was visiting. What an amazing experience! Thanks for sharing your Paris life. It is really adding to living here!

Random question.... I see the Louvre has timed entry tickets now during July and August.... does this mean no lines? Or will there still be crazy lines?

Have they announced how quickly they plan on taking down venues, fences, and areas that are no longer part of the games? It would be a shame for my family to arrive on Aug 6 to empty venues that block access to public spaces. Any available information on that Jay?

Hey Tony, circling back here in case you didn't see our video over on Paris in my Pocket - Most venues will be fully down between October and November. Everything will certainly stilll be up on August 6th, because the Paralympic Games are at the end of the month!

In Paris today and so many previously public spaces are cordoned off in Olympic preparation. Great city and still magic to visit but I hope all these spaces reopen after the Olympics and don’t become private access only

the first wooden stand facing the Eiffel tower is probably for international tv to have the eiffel tower in the background are they sit at a desk. BBC does it all the time. For the Euros they have stands facing the brandeburg gate behind them.

The Champs de Mars grass was so green without those pesky tourists walking all over it. The fence all around did help. Looking forward to watching the games but unfortunately from afar and on TV. It’ll be the beautiful games.

A common misconception is to only wear sunscreen when the sun is out, you should use it everyday :) the sun/uv rays are still there when it’s cloudy besides that, nice video as always!

I feel bad for you. I was there two weeks ago and almost cried when I saw what they had done to the Pont Alexandre III. It was the one thing I longed my whole life to see and it was ruined. But I got over it and had an amazing time. I hope you can too. The more quaint (less monument driven) areas are untouched. Le Marais and the Latin Quarter don't have anything Olympic related (I think). Sidewalk cafés, cobblestone streets, the French language, beautiful historic churches. Those remain untouched.

@JaySwanson Based on what the temporary stadiums at the Place de la Concord look like at the moment, would it be possible to see the competitions from the square? I bought tickets for the "Concorde Urban Project" (access to the square during the Olympics) - and am now wondering if I'd be able to catch sight of the competitions once I enter the square... According to renders / 3d concepts, they will leave one side of each stadium "open" (i.e. without the seats and facing the square), but I am not sure how it is gonna look like in real life (i.e. whether they would manage to block the view somehow...).

Heading back to Paris later this month. Not gonna lie, wish the olympics were somewhere else. Oh well. Glad I also got to Place de la Concorde early last month. There were some bleachers up, but at least it was accessible to walk around.

I received a mail to tell me to apply for a QR code as I live in the red demarcated area, so I did only to be turned down… who knew? Anyway they’re closing a lot of streets and movement will be hard soon. Hopefully access to my fav Seine pub stays open.

So at Concorde: the largest stadium is for BMX freestyle. The two smaller ones are the skateboarding venues. The tent, which will be raised, is for 3x3 basketball and breakdancing.

That is so disrespectful. Making Paris's other beautiful places into eyesores is bad enough - but the Place de la Concorde should be given more respect. People tragically lost their lives there. It's a huge part of history and should be treated better than being an Olympic venue, especially for the crass events they plan there. Disgusting.

Not sure I'd label biking, skateboarding, breakdancing, and basketball as crass. All of them take enormous talent, and it's great that modern sports/dance are making there way into the games. Some incredible athletes will grace the stadiums at Concorde, and that's pretty cool for modern history! I'm pumped for the Olympics to be here.

Def wouldn't recommend doing what I do and locking an expensive bike and leaving it. Bike crime's rough, lots of bikes get stolen, but you gotta live your life!

@@JaySwanson I was wondering how far French bureaucracy was going to frustrate you. I was in France working during the 2007 French presidential election and was fascinated by the THIRTEEN five minute presidential candidate videos shown on TV back to back - over one hour of television time taken up with political material. I am not sure what happens with an election to the Assemblée nationale - do all the competing parties get a five minute slot?
