Wauu - that's quite a catch you brought home. Lots of joyful hours of listening in your HiFi room. Interesting to hear about some of your findings. And - as mentioned in the comments below your Fred Thomas interview - really funny that we coincidentally bumped into each other in Copenhagen airport, at your return ...... at the luggage belt, where you had not planned to end up, but since you bought so much creme-de-la-creme Paris jazz vinyl you failed to squeeze in into your otherwise smart and large cabin bag. Also - on you excitement about and love for Paris - a +35 years delayed THANK YOU for being the one to bring me to Paris for the first time in my life. Great trip we had - and yes, I also fell in love with the amazing city. Have returned a few time. Though not as frequent as you, mr. Francofile. But! a few days ago I agreed with my wife that we go for a prolonged weekend later this year 🙂 Will bring both your restaurant and record store recommendations...

I would love to shop for records in Paris, especially Sam Records.

Thanks for your comment, Harry. In addition to being a fantastic city in itself, Paris is also a European jazz music capital with many good record shops. I think the Europeans (French, Danes, English etc.) were very hungry for international/American jazz from the 1950s onwards. It can still be felt, I think.

Thanks a lot for this excellent, as usual, video. For your info, all the 4, Hampton Hawes, Barney Kessel, Red Mitchell and Shelly Manne were good golfers, the reason why they made this cover.
@Claus-CaptainPhoenixCorner
@Claus-CaptainPhoenixCorner 21 день назад
Thanks a lot 🙂 And I must admit, I only guessed about their golf skills... It's just that I don't like how the player on the left bends his left arm and to the right, Red Michell seems to have no body rotation at all (it's all hands). I like Hawes' finish though 😇 Probably one thing is to pose for a photo shoot - another is to play on the course.

What a great video. I am from France and lived 10 years in Paris before moving to the USA 9 years ago. I am also a jazz fan, and a couple of my favorite vinyl records I carried with me are from Paris Jazz Corner (I remember the first time I went to the shop, I was young and a little shy, I got the Clifford Brown Memorial Album and the Tony Fruscella record. The owner was talking with a regular and they both watched what I bought. They then watched each other and the owner put my records in a bag and said " pas mal" which means "not bad". To this day, my favorite small victory). I know all the shops and restaurants you talked about and I think you did a fantastic job to describe everything with humility and passion. Thank you for this little trip in nostalgia, and most of all, great haul.

Thanks for the recommandations. My buddy Stunty with whom I co-host à weekly streams comes originally from Paris, he often mentions "Le Souffle Continu" and "Dizonord" when it comes to go record shopping in the French capital 😊

@@frenchvinyladdict Ha yes, I really like Le Souffle Continu", lots of great books there too. Never went to "Dizonord', I suspect it opened after I left the city. "Paris Jazz Corner" is still the best because of the crazy amount of records and I think you can still get very decent prices there. As for classical music which is my main interest, "La Dame Blanche" et "Melomania" are very good.

They have moved to Sommiers in the south of France. We go regularly and the shop is very good too. I have just posted their Facebook page in the comments. Rents in Paris were too high and a number of passionate customers helped them set up this amazing club.

Thanks a lot for sharing your story and your kind words 😊 Oh - to live in Paris is something I dream of. Even if it would be only for a few months - but long enough to get the feeling of "everyday lift" there. My wife is not averse to the idea - so who knows...

@@frenchvinyladdict Thanks for your comment 👍 I know of Stunty from other YT channels (he knows a lot about "unknown", special releases too) - I'll check out your stream (plus Le Souffle Continu and Dizonord next time I'm in Paris ) 🙂
