This was such a challenge for all the artists, because they were thinking about what the judges said at their critiques and then trying to paint differently from their own style based on their critiques. It was a good practice sitting for all four. It was obvious that the judges weren't really pleased with the results and each artist felt it. Looking forward to the next episode to see how each will paint their assigned portraits.

What I enjoyed most from this episode is the idea of wedding the background to the portrait and especially the words of the gentleman speaking about Matisse. Really Interesting, and will change how I look at portraits and how I paint as well. Thank you.

I think people can learn from artists in the past but not copy. We should still keep our own style but do it better.

The model is a pretty woman, delicate, but not such a beauty to be an inspiration for all photographers! But, what do I know?

Am I the only one who is always slightly irritated with the judges critiques? Painting edgy models is "overegging the pudding"? What rubbish. I hate seeing artists altering their styles to please the snobby tastes of a couple of judges.

‘Too academic’, what a nerve. Poor Euan, far too well-mannered. No dear, be cheap and modern, put a scribble through it, excellence has no place here. What arrogance and condescension.
