We picked up this rare 1962 Mercury Monterey Commuter Wagon 6 months ago that was parked in a barn for 30 years. Today's task is to see if it will run. We have our friend Dave here who helped us install a gas tank and check over the brakes. Leave a comment to help us troubleshoot 🚨

You guys had me laughing so heard from the beginning to the end, Jimbo rolled 23 cigarettes, I thought they were going to blow up with all the gasoline and smoking ha ha ha ha then Chad pulled up the break peddle and it snapped. I almost peed myself. Love you guys, keep up the great work !!!

The best part of this episode was Jolene's camera work. She captured the beautiful setting you guys live in. Love these old merks sometimes you can come across a hole in the diaphragm of the fuel pump it'll get some fuel but not enough to stay running if you know what I'm trying to say

I would have keeped the wheel well openings tighter to the wheels . I like the tighter look better then all that space . But either way I learned how to do it . Thank you Chad you are a great instructor .

When I was a kid, we had a 1960 Mercury Monterey 9 passenger station wagon with the big Lincoln engine. We called it the "Lead Sled". That car would pass everything but a gas station!

Ensure tank is clean , fuel sock inside pick up is clean , replace fuel filter . Add adequate fuel .Perform fuel pump pressure test , ( you can use a snap on vacuum gauge that is designed for this, having fuel in it ). It should hold pressure for a minute after not cranking over the engine . If it indicates no pressure on gauge , or the pressure falls off rapidly after you stop cranking the fuel pump id defective. If it checks out ok clean and inspect the carb.; ensure accelerator pump squirts all the way through the linkage movement. Make sure jets are clean. This should help.

Check the plugs, leads etc, get rid of the fuel, clean carb, refill with fresh fuel, or use a fuel can and a line straight into the carb, and she should go, if not seized up

Bad Chad, You have expressed many times you do what makes you happy. You are a RU-vid custom car restorer and fabricator. Jolene recently said fabrication videos have the greatest revenue generation for the business. The "finishing bits" are necessary but don't meet the business model or make you happy. Fab and customize using your likes and skills to make yourself happy. Sub out to another RU-vidr or mechanic the mechanical portion and bring back for finishing and paint. Everyone is happy. Most of you all may know already, that most cars mid seventies and older do not run on this watered-down gas they sell now. The engines do not run smooth but rough! Suggestion to everyone that has a car sitting for long time is add High Octagon Boost in with gas. It will run better, and have the power you remember! This is not Bull, but Fact!
