I always thank of the first letter, first word, first verse, first chapter, first book (Genesis) like I think of the “Big Bang” - everything explodes out of a tiny singularity. In this lesson we briefly discuss that singularity and focus in on the first word of Genesis - בראשית. It contains wonders!

Hi Grant. Is there anybody in South Africa selling your books? Specifically GOD PREPARES A WORLD. We can find your 'older' books online in SA, but not this one..

As always, thank you very much for your teaching. I wanted to ask why jewish calendars show that it has only been 5783 years after the creation and we now live in 2022 +/- the 4000 years before Christ. So if the Messiah is supposed to come again after 6000 years, would it be according to jewish calendar or the regular calendar? And what happened to the 239 years that are missing from the jewish calendar? Hope my question makes sense 🌸

Great questions! My opinion is that neither the Jewish nor the western calendar is precisely accurate, but I do think they are both in the ballpark. I understand that the Jewish calendar year was established around 900 C.E. Can we trust their calculations? Maybe, but who knows? As to the western calendar, the best estimates are that Yeshua was born around 5-6 B.C.E., which would make this year either 2027 or 2028 (instead of 2022). But we can be a little more confident in this latter calculation than in the Jewish one since we have more historical data. So, again, who really knows for sure what year it is? (This reminds of an oldie by the band Chicago - "Does anybody really know what time it is?")

@@grantluton Thank you so much for answering my question. One thing I’m really grateful to God is the communication possibilities today. You’re someone I really look up to and I’ve learned so much through your teachings. I’m so grateful I have an opportunity to ask questions to someone like you and get them answered, even if we have never met and you live on the other side of the world.

Hello Mr. Luton, Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge, and wisdom with us. Since I didn't see this mentioned in your book "God Prepares a World" vol.1 & not mentioned in these Torah portions, Rashi mentions that Noachs wife was Naamah (meaning lovely). Rashis claim is that Naamah is mentioned in the Bible as Tuval-Kayin brother, the daughter of Tzillah & Lamech for this reason. Genesis 4:22 Its in the Artscroll commentary of Rashi, Talmud commentary, and the Chumash commentary of Genesis. Pretty interesting as then that is how the lineage of Cain continued on after the flood. Remember Yeshua called the Pharisees & Saducees "sons of Cain". I just wanted to point out Rashi's interpretation, because I could never figure out how Yeshua could call anyone "son of Cain" if Cains lineage passed away in the flood. But then again, if Seth's lineage (sons of God who feared God) mingled with the sons of daughters/Cains lineage), this offers more trouble as Seth's lineage was told to keep to their own. Genesis 6:1 God Bless 🕊 PS: i am looking forward to Vol 2 of your book! I wish you had many more books already written. Your insight is unparalleled. Thank you!

Thank you for your message. It is true that the Midrash Rabbah does claim that Naamah was Noah's wife (that's where Rashi gets it), there is no way to know if this is factual. But, it could very well be true1 But who knows?

As to the "son of Cain" comment, it is important to understand that the term "son of" does not always refer to genetics. It is a euphemism to show that one individual is just like a certain another individual. For instance, those who live by faith in God are called sons of Abraham because he is the father of all who believe (Gal. 3:7 / Rom. 4:11,16). Yeshua refers to those who refused to recognize Him and tried to put Him to death as sons of the devil (John 8:44). Paul refers to Timothy as his "true child" (1Tim.1:2). This is a pretty common thing. Likewise, when two people share common purpose, they are called brothers, regardless of genetic connection. Make sense? So, I'm pretty sure Cain's line was eradicated in the flood even though there were people in Yeshua's day (and in ours!) who behave just like him.

Greetings and thank you for all you do to share love and light. I’m hoping you can answer a question I have on the last verse of Genesis/B’resheet chapter 4: what is meant when it says from then on men began to call on the name of Adonai? What does it look like to call on the name of Adonai ? Why did they begin then? Thank you in advance 🙏🏽

Thank you, Colette, for your kind remarks and the great question. In fact, that question continues to be a source of debate, and it has to do with the Hebrew word for "began" that is used here. The word is הוכל (huchal) which can also be translated "curse" or "profane" (from חלל, chalal). If this is correct, then the verse would read, "men cursed/profaned to call on/with the name of Adonai." In other words, at that time men began to curse God's name. This is how I read and understand the verse. I hope this helps! Shalom, Grant
