Judah, his tribe, and later during the separating of Israel into the 2 nations, the northern Israel and southern Judah, that is where the people group called Jews came from. Abraham was way before all of these things and was NOT a Jew. Sorry if that bothers you but that’s truth.

OK. So Abraham knows two names. Abraham learns about El Elyon (God Most High) in Gen 14:11, via Melchizedek. He also knows El Shaddai, whom he meets in Gen 17:1. It is El Shaddai that says, "Walk before me and you will be perfect/blameless". It is also El Shaddai that demands a covenant of circumcision. He never refers to these as Yahweh, but Adonai. But here's the problem. When Moses encounters the burning bush in Ex 3:14, It identifies Itself as "Ehyeh Ašer Ehyeh" (I am…*). And It claims to be the god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It goes on to assert that, while Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob only knew him as El Shaddai, It is actually as Yahweh. [* ”I am…” could be translated ”I am that I am”, ”I am as I was”, ”I am as I will be” etc.] As we've seen, Abraham knew two names: El Elyon and El Shaddai. So that's fine. More interestingly, though, Isaac never spoke of El Shaddai. As far as we know, he never met Him. It was Yahweh that Isaac prayed to. And, whereas Jacob met and was blessed by El Shaddai in Gen 35:11, whenever "Elohim" appeared to speak to him, Jacob always took this to be Yahweh whom Jacob then pay reverense to by building bulding altars and performing rites. So, we are faced with a problem. Based on the bible text, either "I am…" is lying or there are more than one god around. After-all, both Isaac and Jacob knew about Yahweh. Also, as far as we know, Isaac did not know about El Shaddai. Unfortunately, even though Jacob had met El Shaddai and at least believed to have met Yahweh, we have no idea if he took those to be to different deities or the same one. __________ Personally-and I should perhaps warn you that I'm not a religious person-I think there's a high probability that at least one or two of these deities are supposed to represent Samael, or some other agents of chaos. (And there are apocrypha texts and Jewish commentaries of Moses entering heaven only to find out that it was Samael who had the rightful claim to his soul.) For example… Re El Elyon: We know that Samael is sometimes also referred to as the one "Most High". This is because, although he belongs to the fifth heavely realm, as the chief angel among the destructive angels, he is actually said to resite in the seventh heaven, where he sits on the throne of divine glory. And it makes good sense. After-all, what is he pushing if not the principle of might is right and self-righteousness. This is also how the concepts "peace" and "grace" are understood in Judaism and Islam, i.e. the total conviction, that can only come with absolute blind faith, that you are righteous person, as long as you do it in God's name (cf. Shekhinah/Sakinah). And Melchizedek, with a name that could just as well be translated as ”the righteous Moloch”. He’s nothing but a pun; a gimmick to keep the readers on his feet to prevent him from just accepting a value judgment about some character's character, based on the name or what is asserted, without really thinking about it. Re El Shaddai: Besides the name can be translated as ”God of Destruction”, ”God of Desolation”, ”God of the Desert”, he is also supposedly the one who "said enough” and wished to halt and terminate creation. The name is also closely linked to the letter Shin, which in turn is closely linked to the Serpent. Also, this is the god who demand a covenant of circumcision, and chthonic basis for the ”Brit milah” has to do with ancient Egyptian mythology about the afterlife and escaping the final judgment: By sucking the blood as the soul stored somewhere else-to prevent it from being stained by your evil deeds-to maximize your chances of escaping the fire of judgment. It’s a kind of Faustian bargain really; because, supposedly, you allow the your ”Lord”/”Owner” to imbue you with some of his spirit while also receiving his mark.
