Probably the best quote I've heard about "high tier" gaming is that, "If you give players enough time, they will optimize the fun out of the game."

Data mining, and the spreadsheet lords... I won't say they "ruined" games for me... but I stopped playing certain genres of games because "omg you're not using X gun? it has the best TTK!". Once I heard about parsing in FF, I tuned out to the people that were telling me about it. "Am I playing well enough to kill the boss? I am. Cool." is all I care about. Occasionally I'll look at xivanalysis to see what I'm doing wrong, but that's about it.

even for more casual ppl, where I used to avoid certain classes/jobs on WoW as well as FFXIV even tho I liked them bc I worried about either not being accepted to things (WoW) or I'd just drag down the whole group (both)

I know this is a couple years late, but that quote is being slightly used out of context. The context is about how game developers need to be careful with the tools they give the player or "they will optimize the fun out of the game." In games that are well balanced, this isn't an issue players have to worry about.

I've been playing MCH since HW. While I would still like it to be a bit heavier in terms of damage output, I've never felt like I couldn't contribute enough for a clear. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I was removed from groups when they were performing poorly (despite doing mechanics right and maintaining uptime) or have been rejected from statics due to it's FFLogs reputation. I remember helping a static get their weekly clears for P1S & P2S. We rolled double ranged (DNC and MCH) and it was my first time doing the fights. Not only did we clear both fights that night, but they had time left over where they debated going into P3S for prog but elected not to just in case of an accidental clear (probably wouldn't have happened, but i totally understood). I've always viewed the meta game in XIV as just something for speed runners and top parse chasers. If a group is concerned about one job determining their ability to beat enrage, then they're probably not worth progging with.
@rhael42
@rhael42 2 года назад
That's exactly correct. The "meta" literally only affects parse runs and speed kills. Unfortunately, far too many people try to treat it as if it applies to everything which is both untrue and harmful. The part that sucks is it seems like that particular group of players seems to be growing more and more each expansion, and I think the most recent spike is largely due to the influx of wow players who carried their assumptions about job balance with them after leaving a game which (allegedly - I haven't actually played it in a significant manner since wrath) had terrible job balance and was important to their community for some reason. I've seen so many former wow players ask about "which job is good" while completely missing the point that *literally every job is viable since this isn't the same game*
@HobbyistPCs
@HobbyistPCs 2 года назад
@@rhael42 it's POSSIBLE that we could tie the influx of WoW players to the percieved increase in meta chasers. However, while still acknowledging that this practice has been around even since 2.0, I think you can reasonably tie the "increase" of meta chasers/advocates to gaming culture in general. As gaming becomes more popular, as information becomes more widespread and common, and as a particular game becomes more popular, i feel like this sort of thing becomes inevitable. While it's not an MMO, I think we can look at a game like Elden Ring and see how quickly metas were discovered, refined, and broadcasted to the public to get a good idea as to what level this practice has progressed to.

I'm currently a MCH main, but I was a MCH secondary in ShB. I'm not in the mindset that MCH "needs" to do more damage, I feel like it "should" do more damage. With the design philosophy of party buff classes like BRD/DNC, utility buffs like DRG/SMN, and damage buffs like MNK/NIN, there's also the selfish dps classes of SAM/BLM/MCH. The only issue for me is that MCH is the outlier of doing decent damage, but not feeling like I'm contributing "enough." At least with SAM/BLM, I "feel" like I'm contributing a lot no matter what I'm doing, but I'm always trying super hard to feel like MCH is a big contributing factor. As a caveat, I have cleared the tier on MCH and I did it because I like the playstyle and the rotation, but seeing bigger numbers would be nice. Also, the whole mindset of "ranged phys dps shouldn't do more damage because they always attack the boss" is idiotic cause like the video said at 2:00, there's next to no melee downtime this tier. So making the ONE phys ranged class that "should" do more damage become able to do more damage. Tldr; MCH fun, but me like to see big number, so me want SE to make bigger number for gunbard

fun fact: the reason PSO2 banned western IP addresses after release in Japan was because western players constantly obsessed over what was "best" while Japanese players just wanted to play what they liked/what was viable (worth noting that PSO2 is a vastly different game from FFXIV, but the comparison is still applicable) bizarre how the region of the world globally known for its astronomical concentration of narcissism would carry that into gaming. so weird

high rank parsers wants the job to be as hard as possible. The more in depth room for optimization you have the more dps you can muster by practicing and decision making. The easier the job the more reliant on rng it is. No one likes to farm pulls until you have good rng just because your job is so simple that the only thing ranking people is their luck and not their skill. I hate it because people judge me over the number without considering stuff like I adjusted to another player to save a run or other players killed me so here's a gray parse. No, they don't care. They only see your number = your value. Also most +95 parsers I've played with are in my black list because they keep ruining my clear\weekly chest party for one extra GCD and sadly they're mostly toxic. Most high parse are attained through a whole group adjusting for you to get the highest number so when they play in PF and not in their premade group they're bad specially in mechanics. It's hard to meet a good player that actually do good dps and mechanic and players don't care about the later if you have a high number lol

Healer parsing is why I quit raiding. My group was stuck on E2S for the longest and they kept saying healer damage was the problem. But they ignored the fact that everyone kept getting vulns in that fight, especially the tanks, which required me to waste time doing extra healing. Zero party mitigation from dps as well. When they finally started dodging and we cleared, the group leader messaged me saying that it was good that I finally started doing more damage cuz they were discussing replacing me. I will say this: So far, I have applied to 6 Ultimate statics (for either UWU, TEA or Dragonsong, I would do any of them). 5 have replied. All turned me down because my Savage logs are between blue and purple (without being BiS for most of them). 4 of them have been polite in their refusal. So I went into Party Finder and started progging UWU on my own. Found a group, we played well and went from Fresh Prog to Ifrit (and awakening Garuda correctly) in less than 2 hours. Turns out it was a static and they invited me in. We continue progging tomorrow. Parses are bullshit. Edit: Yeah so, I see that some people seem to think this comment or others below are lies or exaggerations, and there is some arguing inside it. I should add that while this is what truly happened to me, it shouldn't be used as evidence against the whole community of raiders and recruiters. It's purely anecdotal, and one case of someone being rejected from a few statics doesn't make the rule. And as I said, I did join a static and we're progging UWU pretty nicely, so all went well in the end. The statics who turned down the recruitment were for Dragonsong, TEA and UWU, and most of them were very polite. There is no ill will, so no drama here, please. Edit 2: I'm an Ultimate Legend now. Great success.

My journey was really weird, and made me real happy. I decided, finally, I will try and clear THIS savage tier while current. Never cleared a single tier ever, and I played since Stormblood. FC static was full because I always refused. Friends already had their own statics as well. No biggie, off to Party Finder I went. P1S took a solid 2 weeks of progging with people of different skill levels. Finally, I joined a PF where a group of friends were helping one of their own to clear it. I joined in and cleared. Had a blast as the only rando in the group, and they asked if I wanted to try P2S. I said okay, got invited to a discord. Had fun progging P2 and had to go, I expected never to hear from this group again, because of course; I'm just some rando. Somehow, within that week, I was invited to join an UWU clear group with a mix of veterens and complete noobs like me from the same discord server. This was a group, where the SMN parsed 100 on fflogs (wtf is that even possible?), Yet the SMN was the one who extended the invite. I have 0 logs on my account. I had never even tried current savage tiers when they came out. I guess they figured I was chill enough to cope being in a high-stress environment? We cleared UWU in 2 months, some of the most fun I've had in the game so far. I conclude, that for Ultimates and difficult savage fights, what you need is a 80-100 parse in PATIENCE and TEAMWORK, not DPS. The chiller you are, the easier the fight becomes. Rotations will slowly form, and you will optimize eventually. And that's the kind of group you should try and find.

I'm a triple legend raid lead and most of the people I recruit are not legends. In fact, I never ask for logs. I only ask for raid history and job/role experience. Those with more to prove tend to be my best members. I have played with 99 and 100 parsers, but they have usually had mechanical inconsistency issues usually due to greeding. Though, that is just anecdote. My recruitment method has gotten my group a 4 week clear on UCoB, 2 weeks on UwU and 4 weeks on TEA. I think that's a reasonable amount of time. Parses are great for optimization, they mean almost nothing for actually clearing content. To a degree, of course but they are mostly irrelevant outside of improving yourself. My best advice to you is to get used to dealing with toxicity, elitism and gatekeeping when doing endgame as it is very prevalent in such a small community. Or do that and build your leadership skills up enough to become a raid lead like myself to open the doors up for others who are like you.

Good groups focus more on the consistency than on your shiny number if you want one. I was kicked out of my first ever static for another warrior player that was a 99/100 parser even though I did nothing wrong and was later picked up by a group who didn't care about your numbers and we did a total of 17 clears of TEA together and quickly because we were consistent. So that being said: please stop wiping the low-stakes reclear party so that you can greed one more GCD of uptime. You won't explode if you have to cast one GCD heal to let us live through a big healing check. Elitism absolutely killed WoW retail hardcore raiding, the hardest difficulty raiding became so oppressively difficult and punishing and the playerbase so elitist they scared away everyone into lower difficulties and refuse to ever acknowledge that it was their fault, instead just continue to shame whilst watching their guilds disband and implode from lack of members and burning out on "managing" their members based on parses, turning guilds and raiding into a 24/7 job is only going to attract other people who like roleplaying being better than everyone else. Be careful FF14 community with what you wish for, if mods becoming standard will turn human players into numbers in a ranking spreadsheet.

I can relate to that. I was a hardcore M raider since Legion until my guild died out in SL due to lack of recruits. My GM just refused to let anyone in without proper parses and as the population started to dwindle, it became impossible to find "suitable" recruits. I was more on the page of simply recruiting people that would put in the work, were chill to play with, and were willing to learn from their mistakes. God knows how many actual suitable recruits we passed on just because they didn't have the right color on wclogs. You'd think that with fewer and fewer applications to our guild, our GM would eventually see the light and at least gave other people the benefit of the doubt, but he'd rather quit than to mingle with purps and blues. @@Hemestal I know that feeling but spread across a decade. The raise and fall of 10man. Wrath made 10man an accessible easy mode with later hard version. Cataclysm turned up the difficulty too far some (I did not mind the challenge), which lost people, thankfully my guild at the time survived and we got better and did decent progress in heroic Firelands. Unfortunately the long wait for Mists of Pandaria bled out a lot of raiders and I ended up stopping briefly because other games and things in my life, I came back for the second tier and started raiding again. Without going into too many details things were a bit interesting but I ended up in a stable position at the end of the expansion. Roll around Warlords of Draenor. 10man is dead now. You need 20 people to raid hardest content. A lot of guilds and a lot of drama and a lot of ups and downs. I went through guilds like a crazy person. Finally the stress of parsing, finding 20 people I give a damn about and all the terribly systems that leeched the fun out the game I had between Wrath and to MoP. Shadowlands broke the camels back. Now I play FF14 and don't feel forced to log in to slave away at unrewarding activities for a 1% DPS/Healing boost for imaginary internet points. @@randomdeliveryguy Normal is way too easy for a competent MMO player. Heroic puts up a challenge but is sadly overpowered by gear very quickly and then ends up similar to normal minus a few bosses. Some people want to do the hardest content (me and a friend who are both former WoW players) but the time investment required to do the hardest content is too much for 1% DPS gains. You also have to play in a group of 20. Which I don't enjoy. I'm socially anxious person and an introvert so it's draining experience. In 10man I got to know my actual fellow raid team members, same with FF14 and it being 8. You can actually form a friend group. Raiding savage has been very fun in FF, it's not as hard as mythic in WoW but its not absolute slog of grinding for months on end. Some have said that WoW has maybe pushed a little too far on difficulty for mythic content. The skill gap between heroic and mythic is big, even for somebody like me who's cleared decent amount of mythic content in the past. The amount of people clearing the mythic content is also reflective of this

You'll see if you're missing ogcds, if you're missing burst windows. You'll see if your burst is off-timed with everyone else's buffs. Get an appreciation of how powerful a pot is. Really all I care about is progging the raids, and I do all I can to keep people alive so we can see more mechanics. I throw my parse down the drain to keep people alive if something goes wrong. Greed is useless if you can't clear, and the biggest goal of playing better is actually just making your life easier so enrage is less tight and you might be able to skip painful mechanics, like second Splash or second Curtain Call. If you can be consistent, communicate well, ask questions, and have a good attitude, that's so much more valuable than any orange/pink/gold historical parse.

One of my gripes with FFlogs are when statics make them mandatory to join their group. Mind you, I AM NOT saying this is inherently a bad thing. On the contrary, I understand WHY they require FFlogs. What I disagree with are those that make them the end all be all. To be more specific, I think those numbers can be easily skewed and/or don't tell the FULL story so to speak. I'd much rather prefer to be put through a brief tryout of sorts, in such a way, that you give me a task with time to prep. From there, you can see what I can do and decide if I meet the standard. *Also, to clarify, I don't mean being put through a tryout where we do the typical party/duty finder things in which I go into it to waste time. If I don't meet the standard in a pull or so, by all means, just give me the axe.

One of the things that we can single out as well is that parsing high sometimes requires special strats (not the norm) in order to reach orange and pink, and also the randomness of crits and DHs. Basically, the more you parse, the "hopefully" the better your numbers are. We can say it's optimization, but for what or who's sake?
@mythgaminggd8096
@mythgaminggd8096 2 года назад
Most statics do tryouts to determine if you are a good fit. A good raid lead doesnt just look at one log or one factor but at your consistency over a plethora of clears. I would like to shed some light on statics that alot of people dont realize. The Toxicity mainly comes from mid core statics. Generally mid core static have at least 1 or 2 players that have parsed low purple once or twice and think they are better than they are. They like to flex as if they understand there jobs or are good in general. Semi Hardcore statics are what I would recommend for people who want to improve or go for parse runs or just clear content in general but dont have the time for hardcore static. Generally semi hardcore groups have consistent players and nobody cares about your parses but consistency and usually there arent any ego issues. Casual statics are for players who dont care about any of that hsit and wanna have fun. Recommend this if you dont care about getting better but if you do or wanna clear content at a specific pace do not join these cause you will not clear any savages any time soon. If you get frustrated at your team messing up the same mechanics hundreds of times or that your team doesnt clear at your place dont join casual statics. However I want to make this loud and clear statics are not necessary for any content aside from Fresh Ultimates. Everything can and will be PFable and nobody cares about your parses. Parses only matter for speed kills and parse runs thats it. Also if you are going for high ranks.

We did check his logs, just because we wanted to make sure he'd actually cleared some savage fights before like he said he had, saw they were pretty average and then tried him out to make sure he fit in with the group, which he did. Basically, it took us half a day to fill our spot with like the second guy that came along, so our ad came and went pretty quickly (the first wasn't sure about blind prog and also told us he wouldn't even have a character on the right data centre until like a day before we were due to start, lol).

For me, as a healer I find parsing to be a big fucking meme lol Now look, I’m not the best but I don’t sandbag either. I’m the usual purple parser with a few oranges here and there if I get lucky with crits. Anywho, going into a fight, obviously I would try to do my absolute best because that’s what my static expects out of me, right? But if I see that the group is struggling and we just need a bit more healing than usual, I will gladly overheal just to be super safe and sack my parse because it ultimately does not fucking matter. I’ve cleared uwu, ucob and tea and all my parses on those fights are grey, with my highest being a 26 on tea. Do I give a shit? No because I still got my shiny weapons so why should I? Damage meters ruined World of Warcraft, and meters can ruin FF14 thankfully parsing is only used for high end content and people have to go way out of their way to get it working. And for the record I parse terribly, if I'm green in a night I'm happy, but you know what even if I grey parse I'm still clearing content. Even if my whole group is grey parsing we're clearing content most nights. The only fight I've done in the game that really required maximizing DPS for me was E8S, that fight had very high dps requirements for the entire group. But I'll admit I'm a mediocre player at best but hey I clear Savage every tier and that's enough for me (maybe someday I'll have the time and dedication to do an ultimate). I use my parses to try and improve myself and that's all it should be used for.

Heh watching this right before work made my day. Thank you for it. The one and only time i ever encountered people doing the FFLogs thing was back in Eureka. When the normal top DPS talked to me afterwards why i as a PLD was higher up than them. Showed me even the Logs. He wanted to know how i did it. Which was a clever combination of: Beeing in the support group (so naturally not burned out on ressources at that point), having 3 healers and most importantly not having to tank so going full on dps logos with the special addition that i could use mitigation to help dealing with double edge. That person wasn't an a-hole though. He was simply curious. Other than that i stay away from parsers Back in WoW i hated the Damage meter guys. I hated to be told what to play and beeing refused to go in a dungeon just cause i don't play Meta. What i also dislike are these endless discussions about dungeon runs. Who cares if one GCD was used not to perfection? Is the boss dead? "But he did use that spell and cause of it it took 2 seconds long..." IS THE BOSS DEAD? "Yes" Then be silent, take the loot and if you want speedrun perfection groups do a PF for it. (although some of those vocal minority people would get thrown out of speedrun perfection groups in my opinion cause they themselve would drag the team down.) On a sidenote: At a gaming convention my little brother wanted to try smash on Switch. So we tried it and i picked what i pick since the first smash brothers on N64: Jigglypuff It was fun to watch two randos laugh at me cause i choose that and not one of the "strong" chars. Was even more fun to kill the last of them with the sleep + rest combo and finish the round.

I keep seeing people say gunbreaker is really hard to play, clunky, bad as a first tanking job, promotes not doing proper tank things like moving the boss or mitigating. I learned how to tank on gunbreaker. Clicked with me more than any other tank, switched to it after getting frustrated by dark knight and just having a hard time juggling delirium and blood weapon, a bunch of ogcds. Gunbreaker felt good and smooth, really intuitive, basically picked up on the "optimal" rotation right away. I never had issues with mitigating or moving bosses because I considered both of those things more important than doing damage, and still do. I'll lose a gcd during no mercy if I have to, that just means on my next attempt, I have something I can improve on. Or hell, ranged attacks don't break combos anymore, so I can just throw them out to keep things rolling. Sometimes I wouldn't even spam my gap closers for damage cuz I'd rather keep one in stock if I needed it, or as I said, considered using my mitigation more important than a trivial amount of damage. Maybe some find it clunky and hard to play, I find it fun, smooth, and satisfying. Sure there's some changes I'd like to see, blasting zone should be a line aoe, continuation having some range on it would make it easier to move around. But every dude that says continuation should be removed cuz boohoo optimal damage is hard should have their gunblade licenses removed. Leave my fun alone. No joke, you can legit clear a new raid tier without optimal gear, melding or potting and be completely fine on a casual level, the only thing you'll need is food for the vitality boost so you don't drop dead to raidwides because you'll be lucky to get more than just a reprisal for mitigation. Will it be close and hard? yeah. but you can do it. Everything else is just for marginal speed improvements. It's all a matter of learning the dance puzzle (mechanics), wipe to like a 5-10% enrage, and optimize to see where you can get more damage in. It's very easy to see when reclearing how a lot of people go from grey parse to green to blue, sometimes sticking at green, sometimes getting a purple. And those who got a 0 and yet the clear was no different than any other. It literally does not matter, like, how do you even parse classes like dnc and rdm who rely on procs?

The funny thing: the rankings in FFLogs are more insignificant than what you've specified. It's "You are in the top X% of the people who parse in XIV, upload those logs to FFLogs, and have cleared the fight you are looking at, on the job you are using, and are not privated (to my knowledge)". It's an astronomically low number of people who do parsing, let alone care about numbers. I like optimization. I like parsing. I like making number go up. I also recognize that I am a minority in that regard, and that it is okay for others to not care. Hell, even I don't think parsing is as important as people think. It's a tool, and while this tool may always be around because people will always care, I personally don't take it as the end-all-be-all metric I use to pick a class. My main focus is "how fun is the class?". If the class ain't fun, I won't play it. If it is fun, I'll try to optimize it because I like to do that. If it was fun, but isn't anymore, I'll stop playing it. With regards to XIV, if you talk about class balance and design (a topic I _thoroughly_ enjoy discussing), then the difference in numbers between classes do matter. Even small differences are still differences and those differences should be reasonable and make sense. The dev's viewpoint is that every player, every job, every party, should be able to clear an encounter given enough skill. To that end, the differences are minuscule and will remain that way. Personally, my focus isn't on "job X does more damage than jobY", it's on "why does job X do more damage than job Y?". The number could be massive, or minuscule, I don't really care. I'm just interested in having another great discussion that looks into the reasons for why one job does more damage than another and how that one class works. Let's talk job design, job feel, how does ability X interact with the job and what decisions does it causes. I genuinely don't care about your numbers. If you wanna know how you did, I'll tell you. If you want advice, I'll give it. If you start bragging about how you're a 99th percentile BLM, I'll say "congrats". However, at the end of the day I only care about other people's performance if they ask for help, or if they are causing wipes. In other words: I _rarely_ care about how others are doing. I usually just focus on me, my own performance, and my own stuff.

Parsing for me is mostly a means of self-improvement. Finding the best uptime strats and maintaining the most perfect SAM loop through a whole fight that I can reasonably manage, is probably the most fun thing in the game to me. Though admittedly I do place a lot of value on what my own parse is - not the parses of others, they're fine as long as we clear, purely mine. Discouraged when I get a blue or purple despite thinking that was my best clear so far, overjoyed when I can crack those oranges. And even more, wondering what I'm doing wrong when people talk about how orange parses are super easy to get and that a low orange should be the bare minimum. I guess I'm sorta... self-gatekeeping? I main SAM, but if I'm not at least purple parsing regularly once I'm geared, I don't feel like I'm a "real" SAM main, but this is only a mentality I hold for myself and not for others. It's this weird mix of being something I have fun doing, and inflicting this imposter syndrome upon me that I'm not a "real" raider unless I get a high parse with my main job of choice.

this just sounds like someone dumping on something that they don’t understand. if people want to try to beat their personal records for their own enjoyment who are you to hate them for it? why does something have to be useful or necessary for someone to enjoy doing it? and why do people have to enjoy playing a game in a way that you think is the “right” way? bad take xd

I think the video is more about how toxic people can be when it comes to parsing. There's no problem with beating a personal record, but like he said, get some like minded people and do a parse run, don't go into a weekly clear expecting that, especially if you're gonna pug, find a static and do that.

FF14 often gets praised as having one of the friendliest communities. But as soon as you get into savage you start meeting the most toxic people ever. People started flaming me for the most absurd reasons, just cause they dont understand what these numbers actually mean, but squares policy wont allow them to outright mention your dps. Honestly, I believe the savage scene would be much better off if square lifted the ban on these dps meters, because then idiots that abuse these programs for spiteful acts could get filtered out much more easily. And being able to talk about these programs openly would only help people understand how to use and read them correctly.

they should ban the players using them, it would clean up the part of the community quickly.

While I don't do Savage tier raiding in FFXIV since I'm a filthy casual in this game, but I've played semi-competitively in other game and tend to fall in solid midtier... But I've always hated meta. Like, I'd rather lose a fighting game tournament with a character I loved than win with one I hate. But hey, at least that type of parser in FFXIV aren't as bad as the breed of From Software fan that thinks if you didn't use a certain build in what amounts single-player game, you didn't really beat it. That's... Something, right?

The venn diagram of the parser players discussed in the video and the "you didn't akshully beat it" fromsoft players is a circle.

Using third-party apps to track allies' stats gives PC players an unfair advantage against console players. Disappointing to hear RU-vidrs like yourself even discussing them.

You EARN the PRIVILEGE to worry about your dps when you wipe to an enrage.

This. Most people acting like fflogs doesn't help, and that it's Satan's spawn. Lowkey wish SE would add enrage to normal content for shits and giggles.

@@107frenchy honestly I kind of think parsing is cancer but only because people divide their attention between learning the fight and doing their rotation right where if they'd just learn the mechanics properly firdt theyd be able to fine tune their rotation in a fraction of the time. Like fucks sake i don't care how much dps you do if you wipe us in the process.

Yeah this is something my static just refuses to understand... I like to try and uptime fights, not because of parsing but because its a fun challenge to see how close I can play fights. I'm not going to stop playing SAM coz it got nerfed, though I will complain about it sometimes, or because something else is "bEtTeR FoR thE GrOuP". It's a fun class, get off my back. Please give Kaiten back tho YoshiP

I can't stand people pretend meta is all that matters. People mocked me for a jack of all trades build in Elden Ring instead of strength or dex build.

fromsoft games have slowly become the worst for this ever since the PC version of dark souls 1. For some reason this was the catalyst for the games to quickly become redditcore, attracting every mouthbreather from all around. People became obsessed with this idea that you have to have a minmaxed, optimized-for-PvP build even if you're just playing through the game solo offline, and *must* stop leveling up at some arbitrary point so you can fit into whatever soul level bracket was agreed upon for PvP, and that the game should be balanced around PvP rather than just being a fun role-playing game. When the developers started to pay more attention to the community around the release of Dark Souls 2, This loud advocacy for PvP-balance utterly destroyed the effectiveness of magic in that game, and had a lot of impact of Dark Souls 3 going into it's launch and "balance" patches as well. I do think Elden Ring, at least at launch did a pretty good job of recovering from this no-fun-allowed approach to balance and delivered a good, solid, role-playing game experience, but I fear it may only be a matter of time before the PvP meta-slaves ruin that too.

Hey - just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS (P8S P1 was harder before the HP nerf) on the ABYSSOS: THE EIGHTH CIRCLE (SAVAGE) (DOOR BOSS) (it was harder before the HP nerf) CLEAR. I know you've been working really hard (P8S P1 used to be harder) at it, and I'm happy that you've (P8S P1 used to be harder) achieved your goal of completion. Congratulations (P8S P1 used to be so much harder before the HP nerf) once again, and here's to more success in your future (P8S P1 used to be harder) endeavors!

Turbo casual > tryhard, every time. In every game. I can run endgame top tier content with a casual, lose for 5 hours straight, and have a ton of fun. Or i can run with a tryhard, get some clears, but hate my god damn life and have a terrible experience that makes me want to never play the game ever again. All in an hour and a half.

This is so true!!! Better to wipe and enjoy the game with a casual than feel bad after clearing it with a tryhard. But still, its still better if you can clear it within a prog than get trapped into a party that doesn't make any progress. Average player still the best, no pressure but still can prog.

I'm on the other side. It's fun to clear often and decent with a few Mistakes instead of a Group who needs over an Hour or longer to see the first 5 minutes of an Fight. Also Casuals arent that fun sometimes but the same goes to Tryhards aswell. You can't say someone isn't fun to play with, because he's an tryhard or isn't fun to play with, because they're a Casual. Both sides can be fun to play with.

@@vinyvandaheim1045 Tryhards are only fun to play with if youre a tryhard. If a tryhard is being cool and nice and youre a casual player making mistakes, they arent tryharding.
