I can just about remember getting the London train from Woodside in 1957.Apparently in the 1930s you could board a train at New Brighton and alight in London.The carriages were joined onto the London train at Chester.

Would be AMAZING if the GOVERNMENT can open up the old tunnels of WOODSIDE STATION as ST JAMES STATION in the BALTIC TRIANGLE is going to be reopened and that had been damaged from the 1st world war why not WOODSIDE STATION ?????

In the 1950s, I attended Pilgrim Street Infants and Junior School. The river end of our playground was just across Church Road from the Monks Ferry Collier offloading facility. There was just a wall, which to we infants seemed quite tall, separating we children from a 50 foot fall to the collier boats below. Nevertheless, the taller, and more adventurous pupils did manage to clamber to the top of this wall, sometimes resulting in death. Those children who survived to graduation from the 4th year, were quite short.

I’ve always thought Prenton, like the Woody, is pretty poorly served by trains given their central locations.

I was 8 years old in 1944, attending the RIVERSIDE SCHOOL WALLASEY , the playground overlooking the River Mersey near to Seacombe landing stage. One afternoon at playtime we saw a silver plane flying overhead and had black smoke from what appeared to be the wing , in no time it had disappeared from view. Our playtime was mid - late afternoon. I have wondered for many years about this incident, and after all this time an article by a Wirral reporter renewed my interest. Having been unaware of the crash, and also worked in that area of the crash for over 12 year's , and no one ever mentioned it amazed me. Can you please help me to put this to rest. Kind Regards Doug Wallworth Aged 85

This couldn’t have been easy to cover and compose. So top marks for your achievement. But personally I cannot fail to record a certain disappointment given that I served my national service at West Kirby in the 1950s and as with many others I guess, those early weeks not to say that first day on the special troop train we were all on coming up from RAF Cardington where we had had about one week kitting out, to descend at the double from the train and the station into waiting RAF lorries was quite a hair-raising experience after the neo holiday camp atmosphere just one week before! But you appear to have avoided the direct rail route to West Kirby ie to include stations like Hoylake which I suspect but am not sure was where our lot got down from. Or if not then the station before. I well recall the station because it was higher than the road and exit below where the trucks were waiting for us.

Hi, there is 2 other parts to the disused stations, more info on them. The stations on the Direct route such as Hoylake are still in use so not covered in this video. Although we have stand-alone videos about stations still in use. As far as i know, troops went from Meols station To RAF West Kirby. We also have a few videos on RAF Wet Kirby itself.

I was walking from sealand road to Chester racecourse when I found the old brick building on new crane street. The holiday inn is opposite the building. I used Google maps to see if it would help to know what station that was. But no such luck, there is still train tracks going to Chester. Google maps have the road and the brick building scanned so you can see the building. Looks like train track that stops at shotton to Chester

At the old woodside station site where the tunnel portal is half buried there appears to be just one portal, but I've been to the other end where there's two portals, also half buried last time I was there which was way back, so they must either merge somewhere inside or else one of them must've led elsewhere. Do you know anything about that? Or did the right hand tunnel lead down to monk's ferry? I see from google maps images that the cutting leading to monk's ferry station site has been filled in and redeveloped so the other end of that tunnel must be buried.
@bobholness8442
@bobholness8442 2 года назад
Yes, the right hand portal led to Monks Ferry. The old bridge wall is still in place on Church St. Co-ordinates: 53.39137937805386, -3.0109306252907135

This is old footage, that old footbridge at the old level crossing on the birkenhead dock branch is now long gone, and a lot of the track is either lifted or buried under tons of soil or other debris.
