Ever since I started gear reviews, and more specifically, knife reviews, I wanted to compare the ESEE 6 and Becker BK7 in a field use video. I always like to use knives of a given category and size class side-by-side to see which will perform better for my given needs. At this point I have developed the T17 and thought it would be a great opportunity to bring it into the mix and put all three of these knives head-to-head in a number of different tests. Which knife will perform the best? You'll just have to watch and see

Probably one of the most honest reviews by a designer I've ever seen. You not only give full credit to your inspirations,, you pit them against yours in an honest fashion. Muchos Kudos .

I take my reviews very seriously and I really try to be honest with everything I do. As someone who represents companies when I review a product, I need to keep the details straight as well as properly display what I see. IF it's good, it's good...IF it's bad, it's bad. Well, that goes for the things I make or design as well. I am no different and if anything I want to properly represent what I am selling. The last thing I want to do is mis-represent what I make or design and find out that people are not happy. IF you like my knife, that's awesome...and I think people will REALLY like it for how capable it is. It performs amazingly on most tasks. However, it is not perfect and has some drawbacks. What knife doesn't??

Where’d you get the brown scales for the bk7? I must have missed the notification for these videos last year. I found them when I specifically looked for a comparison between these three knives. I was glad to find these videos. I have all of these except the T17, but it’s on my list. I’d also like to see a Hogue exf01 and a T17 comparison regardless of the difference in blade thickness. I’ll bet the weights are similar.

There are a darker brown that I have on my BK9. I can't find where to buy those anywhere, but the tan ones on my BK7 can be found quite often, even on eBay. I do have the EXF01 and haven't found the time for field use with it just yet. Hopefully soon!

I love my ESEE 6. I have TKC G10 scales on it. I was itching to find an "upgraded" version of it (different steel, 3V, D2, etc, and no coating). I could not find anything that fit what I was looking for. I'd like suggestions from other commenters. I've looked at a number brands, too many to list. I was considering drawing my own version and having it made out of CPM-D2, now this TFK T17 might fit the bill!

Initial thoughts 11 seconds in, mainly the comparison angle. I understand the build cost differences etc, but both those knives are less than half the cost of the TFK. don't get me wrong, aesthetically out of the 3 I would pick the TFK hands down, it's a beautiful piece and masterful engineering...the cutting edge of "knife porn" for sure.

Yeah, price is a funny thing. You'll notice I very rarely discuss price in my videos in general. It's never really an indication of actual quality or performance. For me, there was no possible way to get a knife that was built for optimum performance. I tried and tried to find it with all the factory blades out there...no go! In order to get the design elements, shape, size, geometry, weight, and ultimately the performance, it costs money and it's worth it! I would be curious to see what the ESEE and Becker would cost in D2. I did my absolute best to select the best manufacturer that I could find...these TFK guys are seriously incredible...working with them has been amazing.

Thanks. I was very happy with the testing and comparison. That was a fun one for sure! Always good to get some blade time...especially with three excellent options!

Ka-Bar Steel:1095 Cro Van or 1095cv,isn't the real name of that steel The steel that is used by Ka-bar , is Sharon 170-06 or SAE alloy 50100B (AISI designation) Which is between 1095 and O1,closer to O1s characteristics rather than 1095, They sell it as 1095 Cro Van,because people think that 1095 is a popular and the reason is it is a good quality steel.Nope, it is not.It's cheap and brings money to the company but not that good as people claim. I did a serius research some years ago and I always look, what info I can find both on the internet and what comes,from my personal experience. 1095 is not as tough as people think, 1095 doesn't hold an edge,1095 if the knife sits in a drawer for some weeks it gets dull no matter how much oil you have on that blede.The most broken blades I have seen are made from 1095. Moraknivs steel, IS NOT 1095,it's C100. Most broken knives out there,are Esses and Cold steels. BK 7 holds its edge longer and it is by far tougher than Esee 6 (steel and saber grind are the reasons)

PS when you hit the wood while chopping,try to use the front part of the blade not the back or the middle. You will get better results.
@outerlimitless
@outerlimitless 5 лет назад
That BK7 does always seem to have a good edge. It is even feels to me to be thinner at the edge than the ESEE which makes me think it would dull faster, but you're right...it doesn't. Both perform well, and I definitely trust both. I don't experience much issue with 1095, but it also does need a bit more maintenance to keep it sharp.

Sunday morning knife video purge 😁.Gotta get the micarta handles for any of the bk line I hate those gravity handles.gonna go t17 than the esee last I’d pick the bk7 but I’m sure other people would make other picks for whatever reason there so close in most things.I used My gransfors bruks wildlife hatchet on my Christmas tree love that little axe.

I’d love to see my battlehorse knives lumberjack toothpick in O1 tool steel saber ground 6 1/2 long 1/4 inch thick 2 inch wide blade micarta handles fish eye bolts great grip blade heavy but not by a huge amount it’s my beast.Id probably mail it to u for testing of course I’d need it back I don’t think it’s made anymore the only down side is the sheath it the worst leather sheath ever maybe it’s made to Carry the blade in some weird way thought of getting a custom sheath for it but I bought one for my falkniven A-1 and it costs me like $60 less than the knife so altogether with sheath and stone firesteel we’re talking $500 but it’s a beautiful sheath and knife .

That sounds like it would be a great blade to add to the mix. I have always loved the look of the BHK and LTWK Mongo. Check that thing out...hard to get your hands on and very pricey...but a really sick wilderness blade. If you want custom kydex, talk to Mark at Extreme Edge Custom Kydex. He's a super good dude. He lives somewhat close to you as well, right outside of MA. He builds sheaths in like 3 days and ships it back the same day he makes it. You get your knife back in like 5 days max with a gorgeous custom system.

Good to know I definitely would like a sheath made locally especially since he would probably need the knife to make the sheath given they haven’t made them for years the knife with the crap sheath cost $225 already but I’d love to get a good sheath for it definitely gonna take a look at the knife u mentionedI love A-2 O1 3v and AEB-L for outdoor fixed blades though 80crv2 D2 and 1095 are right up there.

Very few people are going to take seriously a knife comparison by someone when one of the knives is their own knife build. You have to have a neutral third party do the comparison.

Working on it... thanks. It's coming... costs a lot of money to put blades in people's hands... and this video was a prototype comparison to evaluate if any tweaks or adjustments needed to be made. Did you watch the 3 part series? I'd say it's pretty damn straight regardless.

I’ve watched Eric’s videos for years and have had the opportunity to speak with him as well as converse through email extensively. I’ve worked in engineering all my life as Eric has and one thing an engineer is known as being is analytical without being biased in their efforts to get to the bottom of things. I have always found Eric to be extremely honest, forthright and helpful. I’ve said it before, I trust him and that is something I dole out sparingly. Get to know him, you’ll find out that he is honest.
