Nippy Normans sent me free of charge, the Denali Sound Bomb split plug and play kit for my 2022 BMW R1250GS.
IT'S LONG...IT'S THE FULL INSTALL, WARTS AND ALL .YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!!!!!!!!!
Currently retailing at £99
IT'S LOUD AND YOUR PRESENCE WILL BE MADE TO ROAD USERS.
ALWAYS CHECK THE BIKE FOR LOOSE HARDWARE AFTER A FEW RIDES.
Here's how I decided to install the kit. You may have a different idea.
There are 2 main options with this install, which mean that you either have the oem horn still able to be used or not.
I chose the option not to have the oem horn working, as this meant no cutting of wires and using the posi tap connectors supplied in the kit.
It's a fairly simple install, so give it a go and follow the instructions in the video.
No routing of the cables will cause any issues, melting etc. The Denali wiring cable has an outer protective sleeve capable of withstanding temperatures up to 105 degrees C.
The installation, panels off, hardware mounting and cable running etc and refitting panels, should take 1:30-2:00 hours.
If you have a flag crimping tool, you could cut the compressor wiring loom, attach the flag connectors in the kit and avoid the having to run the loom to the front of the bike and back again.
MAIN SECTIONS
00:00 Introduction
04:03 Panel removal
14:45 Initial horn loom routing and air horn hose routing
18:08 Mounting the air horn and compressor unit
27:10Connecting air horn/compressor unit and more wiring loom routing and final securing of wiring looms to the bike. Connecting power to the battery.Bike back together. Any issues.

I really enjoyed this DSB installation video. You are very meticulous and make all farkle installations seem easy and straight forward. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into your channel. * with reference to the rubber grommet you lost for the battery cover, would a few drops of medium strength thread lock (or other light adhesive) in the grommet groove help keep it in place.
@gsd32i
@gsd32i Год назад
Thanks for the comments👍. To be honest I donor know. The grommet just needs to be wider to avoid it being pushed through. Don't tell anyone but my dealer just went and borrowed one from a demo mode and let me borrow it long term...which has now disappeared l!!! 😂

Nice video, so it Denali split in case that I decide to install will take a long time process to put it on the GS ! I guess could be a little more easy to install the other Denali called Soundbomb Compact Air Horn... Congratulation for teaching this hard work

Nice vid! I guess there are a number of variations on this so if it helps for others this is what I did differently. I chose to install the relay and most of the wiring along side the battery. There is plenty of space if you keep the cabling tidy. I ran the horn loom over the top of the battery in the area where I think you said you have a gps unit. I don’t have any wiring under the seat. I just folded the excess horn loom cable up on itself and zip tied it all behind that lower panel. I didn’t remove the tank central panel or the two tank side panels, I was able to run every thing without that. But I do have a tool which it a long springy thing with a grab on one end which makes life easier running in confined spaces. I fitted the flag connectors the other way around to you so that they don’t stick out the side and are not visible. I ran the horn connector up the same way as you but of course it starts at the battery compartment so doesn’t have to cross over from one side of the bike to the other. Same as you I left the OEM horn in place without wiring to it. In fact I removed it during the install for access and refitted after. I ran the pipe up similar to you but took it across from the left to the right behind the headstock and dropped it onto the horn unit from the right. That way I didn’t get a pinch point at the top of the horn. Finally if you put the end of the hose in a cup of hot water for 30 seconds it softens up so you can easily fit it. Not saying anything I did is better than anything you did but wanted to show there are options. Took me longer than 2 hours as I trial tested everything, including the horn off the bike. I now know what the black plastic nut cap is for too, thank you! So thank you for making the video for those to come.

My Denali Sound Bomb split compressor and horn cost a lot less from SportsBikeShop. Wired, like yours, onto the battery of my bike not a GS. The Denali Sound bomb is very loud. I got one having heard the one RichyVida fitted to his VFR800.

@gsd32i Год назад
Always good to get a deal . Did that include all the mounting brackets for the gs or just the horn compressor and wiring loom , which comes to about £70 at Sportsbikeshop, who I use a lot . The brackets retail about £33 . Impressive horn 👍

@@gsd32i The horn is indeed impressive. I don't have any pull outs when riding my bike a Triumph Sprint 1050 with it fitted. I must have bought it about 4 years ago with the wiring kit. I was looking for the transaction just to satisfy my memory. I think with wiring kit it was about £55 or £59. I had to make brackets although some were supplied. I think I used one or two of them. Being the Sprint ST it has a full faring so I was able to mount it beneath but still able to deliver it's sound busting sound. I have another couple of bikes I also got sound bombs for but still have to fit them. As you say they are impressive. Love using it although not too much ;@).

This is probably the best installation video I have seen. You cover the often tricky, yet seldom explained panel removal for the bike. I'm also planning to run power supply to my GPS from a fuse block under the pillion to the bars. Is there room between the tank and tank panels to run that wire, or should I go under the tank and along the frame?
@gsd32i

Personally i would go under the side or top tank panels 👍

At 23:43, it says the horn is supposed to face backwards. Can you clarify? So the sound outlets are facing the rider, sending the sound to the back of the bike ("backwards")?! Every other photo I see (even on the Denali website) show the air horn openings facing the front of the bike (or sometimes toward the side, if mounted on the side of the bike). Seems counter-intuitive. Can you provide any insight as to what's going on here? Thank you! Great video, this will save me install time for sure.
@gsd32i
@gsd32i Год назад
Thats the way it is supposed to be fitted. I contacted Denali too. The horn will only go on that way. They said with over 100 dbs it doesn't matter which way it faces ...they have a point.😄

Thanks for the detailed installation video. Quick question: shouldn't the horn face forward?
@gsd32i

The older combined compressor and horn unit did BUT the split version faces rearward. 120 decibels doesn’t matter which way it faces 😊
