Sequoia Hospital and Silicon Valley Cardiology in concert started its highly successful and internationally recognized atrial fibrillation program in 2003. As of 2013 approximately 2,500 atrial fibrillation ablations have been performed. This series of five videos have been designed to help the viewer to understand what is atrial fibrillation, indications for ablation, what to expect before and after the ablation, and results of the procedure as performed by the five Silicon Valley Cardiac Electrophysiologists. You will meet the entire team of doctors performing this procedure, and we hope that you come away from this with an excellent understanding of atrial fibrillation ablation. For a consultation with a Silicon Valley Cardiac Electrophysiologist, call 650.617.8100 (East Palo Alto) or 650.363.5262 (Redwood City), or to Find a Doctor, call Sequoia Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute at 1-800-31-HEART.

I wish this Doctor was my cardiologist. I've been with my cardiologist for seven months and I have to go to the internet to learn this information.

I got diagnosed in Feb after In January contracting u know what. I went to Urgent care cuz I had a cough that just didn't go away. I was concerned about pneumonia or Bronchitis. I went to bed Fri night and woke up feeling like I had to like focus on breathing it was hard and my heart racing. I get there n the nurse says after a bit um your heart rate is irregular do you have a ride or should I call one for you. I advised I had a ride. They walked me outside and told my partner. Take her to ER now. I get there I get checked in and they did my EKG my heart rate was 177 bpm. I got baby aspirin then some other meds. Eliquis Metropropol and some other stuff. Got my rate down and stayed overnight for observation. when I went to cardiologist 8 days later still in AFib. Told me to stay course 30 days. Did so came back. Still in AFib. Put me on Amioderone 2x day. For 6 weeks. Go back EKG still in a fib. Take me off twice a day to once a day Amioderone. Book nuclear stress test. That came back normal clear. Then doc sent me two weeks after to Electrophysiologist. Had consult. Gonna do catheter ablation waiting for scheduling to call me next week. 7-10 days I should get call. This has been my journey since Feb 19, 2022.

Thyroid issues are not the main concern. If the thyroid levels are in check a person should be fine. Not common that thyroid patients have afib

Thanks for a very well done video, with clear descriptions of this condition, AF. I've had AF since I was 67 years old, happened over a period of 3 months, starting a month before a TIA (minor). At 3 -4 months it had become persistent (chronic). My cardiologist is not recommending cardioversion or ablation, stating the AF returns in a vast majority of cases. Did I understand you correctly that treating AF soon after identification is best? I'm taking warfarin and a channel blocker now, but would like your comments on my understanding of your comments of early treatment seen on your video. Again, thanks for a good video. I'll share with my friends.
