@@Tinker1950 Ironically, a person who thinks intelligence can be measured by an intelligence test, and also reduced to a single number, isn't using their intelligence. Neither is someone who thinks personal taste in comedy is based on intelligence. Oops!
Arguably in the top five Brit comedies to this day. For me it’s Faulty Towers, the Office, Alan Patridge, Some mothers do Ave’em em and People just do nothing.
I can still see my Mum and Dad struggling to breathe watching Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em as a child. I grew up and had my own family and introduced my kids to the show which they still watch to this day. Now they have children and on it will go. Thank you both. ❤️🇦🇺🦘
I used to LOVE Saturday nights! Some Mothers, Birds of a Feather, The Bill, The Good Life, the Mrs Bucket one lol. Always fantastic Brit TV for at least 2 hours every Saturday in the 90s.
My God! So good to see both of them (after all these years) wearing well. This was back when folk used to have a laugh, and when 'innocence' was just that. What a changed world we now live in. Great to see both looking so well, it really is.
Part of me sees the two on screen now as an older Frank and Betty - I'm just waiting for him to break into character. 50 years on and the show still makes you laugh
When I was a youngster in the 70's, growing up in Toronto, Canada Saturday nights before our beloved Hockey Night In Canada we were treated to BBC comedy classics, Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em was a favourite of my house, others included The Two Ronnies, On The Buses, and Fawlty Towers. I remember quite vividly how funny those shows were and still are, thankfully I've been able to purchase some on DVD. Thank you for bringing back some great and very funny memories.🙏❤️👍👍🇨🇦🤣🤣🤣
The two scenes that I remember most are the roller skates, when he went down the overpass ramp and under a moving lorry. The other one was hanging onto the back bumper of a Morris Minor over the edge of a cliff. Amazing stunts. It was an all time classic comedy.
I saw Michael in "No sex please we're British' and he held the audience in the palm of his hand. To then have watched "Some Mothers" was a delight. He and Michele were (and are) a wonderful team.
have you seen a film she made called "and soon the darkness". its a film that dosent really get a lot of credit cos its a VERY slow film but it is definatly worth watching for dotrice,s scenes.
I was asked years ago what was the most surprising thing I've ever learnt in my life and it was the moment I learnt Michael Crawford was the Phantom Of The Opera.
Michael Crawford was also in 'Barnum!' He helped with the choreography, and access of music for Torvill and Dean's winning 'Barnum!' routine: all 10s. Michael Crawford was part of T & D's support team present who shared the joy of their success. It's wonderful to watch in every way.
Have to tell you. Got a lot of thumbs up for my comment on Prince Harry wanting to change the family name to Spencer. I said it could be good for him, also change his first name Frank. “Ooh Meggy, the cat’s done a woopsie in my beret.”
The 60s and 70s were definitely the golden age of British comedy, you had steptoe and son, some mothers, Fawlty towers, likely lads, on the buses, Monty python and the list goes on.
So nice to see these 2 legends TOGETHER at last talking about Some Mother's. I don't think I have ever seen Michael Crawford talk about Some Mother's before. Total genius.
50 years on and the comedic chemistry is still there between these two great actors. "Some Mothers" stood out as one of the best sit-coms during a golden age of classic comedies.
Many many wonderful memories of growing up and watching with my family. The laughs we had 😂 2 amazing actors ❤ thanks for those precious memories of times with my parents who both passed on many years ago. Priceless
It will always be the funniest program I have ever seen I was a child about 12 and I was in hysterics especially the roller skates episode. Thank you both.
Got all of this great show on dvd and it still makes me laugh every time I watch. It truly is one of the best British comedies ever made. And let's not forget, Michael did all the stunts himself. He is an absolute legend and Michelle Dotrice is a great actress too. Her sister Karen Dotrice played Jane Banks in Mary Poppins.
Bloody marvelous, I remember watching with my parents,my dad laughing out loud ! Wonderful memories and of course my lovely mum and dad ( no longer with us ,) Great memories
when ,,I was a school kid in NZ,,watching Frank and Betty,,,I really thought ,he was real ,nobody could act like that.....bloody amazing actor....Years later,,we discover he's an amazing Singer,, unreal talent....
I knew the wonderful writer of this series Ray Allen a lovely quiet man I met him through my dad Melvyn Hayes. Ray lived on the Isle of Wight which is where I have resided for the past 17 years. To sit and have a conversation with that man at the dinner table just amazing it really was.
I was born in 1985 so I'm not old enough to have seen Some Mothers.. first time round, but I vividly remember watching reruns with my grandparents in the very early 90s and loving it as a kid, the same sort of appeal as Norman Wisdom and definitely transcended the decades well. And as a child, I was in stunned disbelief when I learned Michael Crawford was also the Phantom and that he could sing the way he does..
In Michael Crawford's generation, it generally wasn't enough to be just an actor. You had to be able to sing, and/ or dance, or have some other talent. The more talents you had, the more employable you were. Drama schools also taught singing, dancing, sword fighting, etc. However, I am sure Michael Crawford could sing better than most!
Frank Spencer was a walking disaster zone. Betty was the one trying to hold everything together lol. Brilliant comedy and it still has me laughing today!
Gosh this is just so wonderful to see! Big love and respect to you both, you made me laugh hysterically as a little kid, and you do the same now! THANK YOU
I watched this show as a teenager in Canada and loved it. Then I noticed Michael in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and reconnected with his acting abilities. The next time I heard of him he was playing Phantom on Broadway. Three of my favourite pieces by the same man.
Growing up in the 80's watching reruns of Some Mothers Do Have Em was brilliant. I loved every episode! Michael Crawford was immense. His stunt work was brilliant!
I remember my Mum & Dad (RIP) would be in absolute fits of laughter while watching this wonderful old show. Just brings back very happy memories 😂…thanks Michele & Michael.
What a wonderful, wonderful video. It has brought back so many great memories of watching 'some mothers' with my Mum and siblings and laughing till we cried every single week. A truly classic British comedy. I will always love and respect Michael and Michelle for doing this Comedy, without them it just wouldn't have worked in my humble opinion..
I saw some mothers on dvd in my local charity shop where I volunteer and didn't hesitate. Should be shown more on TV. Michael did all his own stunts he's magic he made Frank. 😊
I watched the gadget house Some Mother's do ave em' episode last night. It was on satellite TV at about 2am, so for an insomniac like me it was perfect. The stunt where he fell out of the attic head-first into a toilet was so so SO dangerous, because when his body rolled into the floor I had to look away. I guarantee nobody would be allowed to try that again.... Perhaps it wasn't planned? But then like many Pro's perhaps the art was making it look unplanned, but so dangerous. Talented pair, but Mr Crawford hitting that high note in O'Holy Night still gives me chills. BRAVO 🏆🏆🇬🇧
I was on a flight from Melbourne to LA, Some mothers was on the head rest tv. My daughter was about fourteen at the time, I was roaring with laughter. She was embarrassed by her Dad. Then she started viewing, she was the was also howling with laughter. It was the episode when Frank fell in the tar bucket, hard to find this episode.
This was one of my first television experiences as a child and I still remember a lot of it. We do not have the exact same expression "Some mother's do have 'm" so here it was translated to the equivalent expression "'t Zal je kind naar wezen", which is more like "Imagine this to be your child". I think the Dutch translation is even better as a title because of the encapsulated dismay. Brilliant show, would still work today.
what a wonderful video, so glad i stumbled upon this as I am going to have so much fun going down memory lane, apart from some mothers he is such an incredible actor/comedian and truly phenomenal singer. My wife had the pleasure of seeing him live here in Brisbane Australia many years ago and its a shame that a lot of people only see him as an actor and have missed out on his truly beautiful voice, especially when he played the phantom.
I remember watching this with my late father, and having an absolute ball rarely did we find something on telly to connect to, but this comedy series was gold
Loved this show. We used to faithfully watch reruns in the early 80s. I always thought who is this hilarious talent and why had I never heard of him. Condor man came out around that time (never saw it). Then, one day quite by accident, I caught a glimpse of him in Hello Dolly. (For the youngsters, scenes with him in that film also appear in the animated film Wall E). Of course he later played the original phantom in ALW's musical.
That interview with micheal and Michelle was so tranquil and warming some mothers do av em was one of those comedy's that you didnt want to end it was that good some comedy's are hard to watch because there over 40 year old not having that feeling it again factor because were moving with the times but this comedy had everything you sort of new something hilarious his about to happen frank Spencer's face is general persona you were crying with laughter before he spoke it was genius and Betty played her part so well they were a odd couple but I say that in a nice way hats off to you both and thanks for all the comedy hours you brought me lots of love and good health to you both
If only they could make a British comedy this good now. Some of my greatest memories as a kid, were how me, my mum and dad would all watch this and all the other wonderful comedies that had us rolling about laughing.
I’m surprised to see Michelle being interviewed. I remember working on a TV series decades ago and we went to Cornwall to interview her then husband Edward Woodward who had come top in a TV survey of top TV hard men. Think Callan, The Equaliser etc. we also wanted to interview Michelle but was told she wasn’t in the country. As we approached the house which was near Padstow I recall we could see in the distance coming towards us a car kicking up dust along the one vehicle track. We pulled over and Michelle crawled past in her car. Or was it her double? Either way she wasn’t going to be interview that day. Edward Woodward on the day was a really good chap, made us all tea and had some very interesting stories to tell.
What can one say ? My personal favourite..... Frank in court representing himself after the motorcycle courier incident. Absolutely hilarious, now as it was all those years ago. So funny, so brilliant, so well acted by all the cast each week, thank you so much ( I am 58 and still laughing even today ) !
