Me too. I just knew something was going to break. I was just hoping it was not a body part.... hahaha. The stress expanded that axle and I had to re-tap the threads on the axle. Check out that video. It was a pain, but turned out great.

Man that thing was stubborn. Only thing I ever came across that was similar was the shaft on one of those 3 point hitch screw-type log splitters from Kubota. Tried to press the shaft out the bearings to straighten the shaft and ended up bending up my port-a-power and bent the shaft even worse. Ended up scrapping that one. It was all rusted up to begin with and never worked right from the time I got it anyway, not to mention it almost took my head off once when a log got caught in it funny. Spun around and got me on the left shoulder as I was turning away from it. Left a bruise about the size of a grapefruit. Probably for the best that it went to scrap.

There are some things that most people shouldn't done. Work on equipment without the correct knowledge on how to remove frozen axle flanges. You should have taken the penetrating oil and soaked the flange over-night. And most of all when using a wheel puller put the nut backing on the axle so the rod on the puller will not expand the end of the mower axle as you have done. That was a thirty-minute work job, instead of a two days costly one.

Same problem on my dads z925a. Can’t tell if we should just let it leak and top off the fuild whenever needed 😂 we don’t have any pullers that big

They have now redesigned the axel so that the hub no longer comes off.

You need at tap and die set for that bolt.

I purchased a replacement bolt and a die to clean up the threads on the axel. Check out the video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rdWpSeif6X8.html . The puller expanded the end of the axel. It was a real pain to get the die started.

@@thistlehillfarmstead9131 Thanks for the update. I just installed a 3/4” to 1” conversion in my Toro Timecutter Z420 Hydrostatic Transmission. Working on mowers is fun. I will check out the new video.

i have the exact same issue , new seal leaks worse than the one I replaced! i THINK THIS is a design flaw with the axle , , looks like there is a newer version . what have you figured out ?

Yes, There is a newer version of the axle. The seal actually seals around a sleeve which slides on the axle. So the leak comes from around the sleeve, not the seal. Watch my video on replacing the sleeve here... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GgTGgVCT--Y.html Jump to minute 24:25 and you will see the sleeve and new axle. I bought it and then decided to stick with the original design. The new axle and the hub are one piece with a step on the shaft to eliminate the need for that sleeve. The hub and the axle are on piece now so if you ever need to replace the seal you have to disassemble the transmission, so I stuck with the old design. Once I replaced the axle sleeve I have no more leaks.
