As you may know, a good number of pieces that we found in Mary's collection are going up for sale this month (@ April 15 2019), we have decided to share the profits of the Pottery she made with the family 50/50. This truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece from an amazingly talented artist, but also some items she cherished and collected many years ago.
The items will be up for sale on Kastner Auctions for online bidding only a timed auction, meaning they will start accepting bids on items a week or so before the end date.... but just like a normal auction you can outbid on the last day so keep an eye on your items :)
you can search www.kauctions.ca to sign up for an account, they will offer global shipping and accept international bids for this sale. I have done my best to photograph and detail any condition issues with these pieces. best of luck to you all!
Thank you all so much for being a part of this amazing journey as we remember Mary and her work as it was intended, in the hands of those who will cherish and enjoy it.
Alex

This feels more like a tribute video than a showcase. It's lovely. I have to add, too, that I know you wanted Mary to see the house when you finished it. But, I think, just knowing that her house was being saved and given new life- instead of being bulldozed- was an amazing gift to her.

As long as her spirit likes the changes! A house haunted by a former potter might get noisy and messy.

I think back on the day you told us you had been asked to look and see if there was anything you might want for your shop from this house before they bulldozed it. The first step in and then the next morning, you telling us that you had bought it all, house, land and all the contents. No one knew that this was going to be a piece of history you were recording. No one knew that you would save a Canadian legend and treasure. No one knew how much this one decision would effect Mary, her family, your followers and all of Canada, even the whole artistic community. All I know is I'm glad it was you and not some crook who they called on. Your honesty, your generosity, your enthusiasm to dig in and find what was lost. To bring Mary's legacy out of that house and into the world for all to treasure. And you and Mary's relationship. Your helping her art and legacy live on. Thank you from my heart. She deserves everything you've done and more. Blessings

She was Soooo humble in Alex's interview! I dare say she had any idea how tremendous her work was to be remembered. Alex has helped her memory live on and I pray that gave her peace enough to move on without fear.

How you are able to keep the videos up to date, clean out the house, gather family and friends to help organize and work the remodel, run a successful business, tend to your lovely family, travel and meet your new sister, deal with your fathers death along with every other thing you’ve had to do . . . not to mention creating a memorial and auction to benefit the family of this sweet lady. . . It just blows me away. ❤️ If only I could emulate your ability to focus and be so creative while being so productive. You are truly an inspiration and excellent example for your children. Your sweet wife is a ‘saint’ to be so supportive and she obviously adores you! So glad you walked away from your job and pursued your passion. You soothed Mary’s soul and created a ‘jewel’ out of disarray. RoCk on, Alex!

Magnificent!!! I could NOT watch all these beautiful pieces of worked earth without out crying. What an awesome and inspiring lady. Her passion was her creations. They have been preserved well and on display now for all to see, and how great it is that people can have a piece in their home to admire. I am sure she was pleased with the photos of her rehabbed home, which was a container for all her hard work. Kudos to Curiosity Inc. for all the hard work YOU'VE done to respect this awesome woman's legacy. "I'm curious to see what's on the other side". :-) It's paradise, and God finds favor in her for taking his wonderful creation and making beautiful forms from it as a thank you to him for giving us what all we have! Again, thank you for taking us on this wonderful journey♡ As for this gallery, I want it alll!!!!!♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

I would just like to say something regarding the many comments referring to Mary's art's value. When I look at Mary's art I don't think of money associated to it past present or future. I see an artist's spiritual and intellectual evolution solidified in her pieces. A process stamping her imprint into humanity. For me Mary's and Alex's imprint is now a marvelous peaceful loving addition to impact my spirit forever.

Her pottery is absolutely breathtaking! Each object truly telling a compelling story. I fully understood Mary when she talked about bringing out the shape and potentital from lumps of clay into light. It was also exciting distinguishing different techniques during the video - such diversity, which demanded a high-level of skill and innate understanding of the material properties. If I could - and I so dearly wish it so - I would acquire all of them. Or at least several. My favourite would be the matt glazed oxidised globular vase with a very short neck; its simplicity is perfection. Another would be the green slip clear glazed one (at least that's what it looked like at a glance) from the thumbnail. Oh, and the blue and black flask... and... see? All of them. Thank you, Alex, for a lovely video, and the kindness and respect shown to Mary, her family, and legacy.

I hope the auction firm is promoting this heavily. All of us viewers love this pottery and what it represents, but just looking at the comments, my hunch is most of the viewers are like me. Moderate to low income and feeling, even if we wanted a piece it would be out of our budget. I hope some Guggenheim or museum bids heavily or some wonderful philanthropist will buy most of this for public display, hopefully in your home country. Thanks Alex and Melissa and family and friends for taking us on this journey and introducing us to an amazing person. RIP Mary B. Much love to all.

What a resurrection not only of the house, but of her life, her legacy and her personhood. Wish I could afford to bid on even a small piece (the Inuit hunter blew me away - her collection, not her work, but still...!). I know everything will be out of my meager price range in a nano, but that doesn't stop me from appreciating it and dreaming. Good on you, Alex! You made this woman's final days full of rich appreciation for her life by people around the world. Hope you earn enough from the auction that your half pays off anything left on the house, the store, and your kids' college educations. Your heart, your spirit, deserves nothing less.

Such an Amazing collection! Just remember that Mary died a happy person because of you, Alex! Look at all you've done for her & her memory...by finding all of those pieces amongst all of the stuff she had in her house...she knew what a daunting task that was & you created a space that we all know she would be proud of. Be content on all that you've accomplished so far, with her at the front of everything you have decided to do for her lasting memory that will go on for all time! I cannot wait to see the finished project, the Potter house! Thank you for sharing each intimate detail of this project from start to finish! ❤️😎👍

4:15, 4:53, 5:40, 6:17, 6:31, 6:53 my favorite pieces. My goodness was this woman gifted. She was a master of the medium. And to think she did this with Raku primitive technique. INCREDIBLE. With her own glaze recipe too. And they’re stunningly beautiful. That’s quit phenomenal. And what a life she had too. All 102 years of it. She was incredible. Wish I’d found your sight and videos sooner. Unfortunately I didn’t find them until March 2020.

Thank you so very much for inviting us to learn about this amazingly talented woman. Artists like Mary are adventurers. Her comment " I'm very curious about the other side" was so in keeping with that adventurous spirit of hers. You've created a tribute to her with your video and the amazing care you took to preserve as much of her life work as possible. I wonder though.. do you even realize what a huge amazing thing you've done? It's not just the restoration of her home or salvaging her work. Or even sharing your interviews, the photographs and images of her pottery with the world. Or even sharing half the proceeds with her family. It's the sum total of all of it. It's really a very very big deal. Thank you for your self investment into what obviously is a labor of love you've shared with us and thank you for keeping the memory of Mary's life alive for all of us to share in. She lives on and will continue to live on because of you.

Thank you, Alex, for sharing Mary's story with us, and for sharing the proceeds with Mary's family. I'm not a religious nor spiritual person, but I do find it hugely appropriate that it was you who bought Mary's things, then the house. I don't believe anyone else would have given such a favourable outcome, and such a final chapter to Mary's life. Instead of the bulldozer or fire, her house will be a beautiful home again and her art will be displayed and cherished. Most of all, her story has been told. Call it God's will, fate, karma, serendipity or whatever - I feel it here.

I have been watching since you bought Mary's house. Should be called a "Treasure" house not a "hoarder" house. LOL! I want to commend you for the care you have taken to go through all of that work to unearth these true treasures of art. I also want to thank you for going to the lengths you have to share Mary with us! Alex.... this viewing has given me goosebumps.. what an amazing tribute and collection of works this is... one almost gets in to the mind of this talented artisan. .this collection is one of the finest I've seen..it has a raw, primitive but so refined quality to it...you have done her proud !!!! To be able to view and handle these works must have been such a privilege for you and those who get to handle these works .....so unique, so tactile.. they certainly show this artisan, Mary, to have a deep connection with the earth, she was certainly able to convey her heart, her very essence is showing in the variety of mood and feeling in each and every piece... thank you for sharing. I can not convey the feelings these works have evoked in me... breathtaking !!!! From Wagga Wagga...land of the crows in sunny Australia. So

I knew you had found a lot of Ms. Borgstrom's work during the house cleanup, but now seeing these, I realize I underestimated the amount and quality of your find. Plus, MORE will be added later to the auction? This is truly an exceptional treasure. Also, it is very honorable of you to make sure her estate receives half of the proceeds. Too many business people would have just taken the money and run. There are so many fine artists that are unknown to the majority of the general public, so I applaud you for telling Ms. Borgstrom's story and making her works accessible. It is a shame the collection will be split up, but, now, many more people will be able to see at least piece of her vision and genius on a daily basis.

Alex And Mary I Have Been Watching Your Channel Of This Beautiful " Angel " , Mary And I Am Memorized By All The Videos From The Beginning To Meeting Mary And To The End !! Just Came Across Your Channel And Understand Mary's Heart And Soul From The " LOVE " She Placed In Every Piece Of Art And The Creativity She Would Day Dream Of Until She Drew It On Paper And Used Her Hands To Create . One Thing That I Know From An Artist , Once You Have Something In Your Mind You Have To Complete , Until The End Or You Can Become So Distracted With Interruptions And Your Thought Process Is Never The Same And More Than Anything You Can Lose Your Concentration And Have To Start All Over Again. You Tend To Be In A Zone , Until You Get To The Ending Results. She Realized What Condition Her House Became ,But ,She Traveled So Much ,Which Took Her Away From Her House. I Think When She Had Company And Things Were Disorganized, She Begin Hiding Things In Other Rooms So Others Could Not See How Disorganized She Was , Due To Her Creating " ART ". Her Busy Days Were Spent Creating , Rather Than Housework And Having Company Over. I Love Her And Love Her ART . @@lynnegulbrand4052 ... that's what I thought when I saw her pottery. How special and unique each piece truly is. Alex used the same words as he described in the video. Furthermore, God is the Potter and we are the clay. Love the imagery⚱️🏺

Ive always liked to analogy of God being the potter and we as the the clay can't ask Him why he made us a certain way, He saw beauty in what He created in you.

So touching how you have brought to life what was destined to be destroyed and forgotten in a house burning. Instead of Mary’s legacy going down in flames you breathed new life into Mary’s creations and possibly having everything she did and was to be recognized by The Order of Canada, her home being declared an important landmark, saving so many of her pieces preserved for future generations to be inspired by. Alexander you are the very definition of a GOOD HUMAN. What you have done for Mary and others is nothing less that REMARKABLE. Thank you Alex!

This is like a tribute to Mary. I know that God put you in the right place, at the right time, to be able to preserve her legacy with such care and dignity. I imagine others would have just destroyed everything. It is a pleasure to see people of integrity in today's broken world. Thank you for what you've done and are doing.

I know its not how/what you started out to do but...what a blessing you were to her in her final days. To have a young man find and appreciate her art and its beauty and value, then to find her and tell her story and appreciate her beauty...yes, she has moved on to a higher plane but she did so with a smiling heart. Thank you for giving her that recognition and that heart smile.

0:25 All clay isn't equal some has sand in it, some has good sand in it that you can use in pottery but there's also sand that the pottery won't hold together so that's what you see is what I sell more in.

Mary was an amazing and hard working potter. I think it has been stated but only a fraction of her work would survive because of the method of open firing she preferred. You are very generous to divide proceeds with her family since it appeared in an earlier video they did not believe any of her work was left in the house. Your Dad would be so proud of you! Your Mother must be an amazing person also as evidenced by how you live your life! Thank you for all the hard work on this journey about Mary and her house.
