Master Modeler Glenn Bartolotti has created quite a series with his "Step-By-Step Finishing Armor" series. Each of the volumes is a mini-master class in painting and weathering a specific armor kit or diorama. The paints, powders and washes are all clearly identified, along with pre-shading and other painting techniques.

Soldier with the Panzerfaust already has 2 tank destruction badges... and he is looking to get his 3rd. You are the first person I have seen put those badges on a figure. Thats cool! (Anybody with 2 of those badges definitely had nerves of steel.....)

Hello Glenn, big thumbs up! You make everything look effortless. Suggesting we apply a layer of acrylic paint as a base coat for painting faces before using oil paints is a great tip, one among many other useful tips you have given us. Did you decide to paint the colour for the shutters to blend in with the roof or because you liked that colour? The weathered look of the roof and shutters provides a framework for the building and offsets the subtle colouring of the stones. Our eyes are drawn to the rusty downspout, which ties in the faded building with the unkempt looking yard. We travel along the cleverly made eroded soil to the wonderful curved bed covered wth real looking green foilage and on to the figures, and back again to the warm hues of the aged looking shutters. The shutters not ony provide a focol point as a backdrop for the figures but also contrast with the greenish grey shades of the German uniforms. Incidentally. the camouflage looks great and adds to the visual interest. It is a work of art with the richness of colours and hues blending the figures together with the building and the foilage on the ground. A joy to watch as you bring all the elements of your vignette together. Your diorama is a treat for the eyes as well as our imagination. Your step by step commentary is much appreciated. Many thanks for sharing your work and inspiring us with your passion. Looking forward to your next creation with great anticipation.

Wow, thank you so much for your comments. The shutters were painted as I did because of photo reference I saw on the Internet in France. I’m just really enjoying making the buildings from scratch. There’s nothing that gives you more satisfaction than your own creations when it comes to art. These days we have so many out of the box ready to go models and figures that my enjoyment comes more from my own imagination and research. Thanks again for your very kind comments. I’ll give you a heads up on my next project it’s going to be based in the destroyed Monte Casino monastery. 😎

This entire piece turned out fantastic! I love oil paint, not many know how to utilize it. I create mostly flatwork and 1:9 scale equines and wildlife. I do love making small dioramas too. Anyway, have a great day! ❤

Thanks for the kind comments! Yes, as I mentioned in the video, the detail is a amazing but it’s so petite. That is very hard to see and you really have to know how to paint it to make it stand out. You may want to look at Calvin Tan‘s work on his website.

Looks great Glenn! This is an interesting setting to show off the new Tamiya figures. I recently assembled and primed these figures and agree with you. The detail is excellent, especially at this price point compared to resin figures, but modifications would be difficult. I'm torn if I prefer the older style of figures that you could chop up for customization, or this newer style. At least the hands look like they are actually holding the weapon.

In my opinion replacing stuff ( equipment) in specially designed places is a good thing , because many people don't know how to wear german equipment and they make many mistakes in figures , gluing canteen or other pouches in wrong places . So this specially designed is wery helpful . :)

Oh absolutely it’s a good thing but if you want to do conversions, you just have to do a little more work and I didn’t feel like doing that kind of work on this project. Every project has a has a finished time for me and if it gets close to it, I’m ready to end it!😎

Maybe it is possible to change only the weapon to MKb (H) or (W) 42 or MP 43 (all in the german weaponset from Dragon ) I bet thats much easier to convert the figure -Great work on this vignette
@ArmorModelsbyGlennBartolotti
@ArmorModelsbyGlennBartolotti 7 месяцев назад
Yeah, the only problem is the ammo pouches for the MP 44 are molded into the figure to fit. Thanks for the nice comments!

Do you use any matte varnish to 'flatten' your figures/models , especially when using oil paints ? I have used AV and other brand paints that are supposed to be flat/matte but have a sheen after application ... like you I want that dead flat result
@ArmorModelsbyGlennBartolotti
@ArmorModelsbyGlennBartolotti 8 месяцев назад
Yes, dead finish is very important. Specially, in photography. I should’ve mentioned that I did spray the figure with Matt afterwards because of the decals. I had it on it but using the to Matt base really helped with the finish. And yes, sometimes the oil paints. Need a coat of matte finish as well. Thanks for your comment.
