It's a two hours movie they couldn't make the scene too long. As for Germans getting the range quickly- well they had artillery spotters too.

My grandfather was a White Russian Officer. When all was lost he fled to Estonia, where my mother was born. The family fled to Germany when the Russians invaded Estonia in 1939. My mother, now 92, is still afraid of the Communist, that her name is on a list. The communist took their home in Tallinn, Estonia as well as their 1000 acre farm in the Oral Mountains. We still have the deed that shows what my great-great grandfather paid for the land. We can claim the farm but it would cost a fortune. My son, an Orthopedic Surgeon said when the time is right he'll file a claim with the Russian government. In similar cases the rightful owner had to pay back taxes.

I respect your grandfather and appreciate your comment etc. but I just wanted to say that Estonia wasn't invaded in 1939. All of the three Baltic states - which includes, but is not limited to; Estonia - were occupied and annexed by Soviet Union in 1940, not in 1939. I guess that you might've had that year mixed up with the one for the joint offensive in Poland. I only wanted to point that out, I have nothing but respect for White Russian émigrés and people who in general have fallen as victims to the destructive, murderous bolshevist regime. I am Finnish myself, and so I am very glad for our war veterans and the home front as we didn't end up with the same fate as the three Baltic countries just south of us, but we fought two very costly wars against our imperialistic eastern neighbour during a time period in which we struggled for our very existence as an independent nation and as a people free from totalitarianism. Have a good day!

If you were middle-class whether you believed it or not you were pretty much with the Tsar as far as the Bolsheviks were concerned - officers were got rid of and replaced with army committees of elected soldiers (can't remember their exact name now), and members from these were sent to the Soviet (for example the Petrograd Soviet) which was just a bigger nation committee - the same thing happened in factories etc. where workers were elected and their bosses got rid of. The revolution in Russia was a disaster for the whole world, but it was beneficial to many countries, as it became possible to plunder the richest country and develop their small countries. The weakness of the emperor allowed the communists, led by bald Lenin, to multiply. A lot of money was spent on this from the German budget in exchange for Russia's withdrawal from the war and the transfer of disputed territories. If everything had happened differently, the Second World War might not have happened. By the way, the USA is now trying to do the same, fortunately, this time they remember their history, no matter how they tried to rewrite it in the 90s, replacing history textbooks.
@stekman9620
@stekman9620 2 года назад
World War II would have happened anyway. The terms of the peace agreement caused strong discontent of the German people at that time. In addition, the victory of the Russian Empire in the First World War was not beneficial to Great Britain either, since such a situation would strengthen Russia's influence in Eastern Europe and the Balkans. And Great Britain has interfered with Russia in the international arena for centuries.

I thought this was an entertaining and well made film. It did however whitewash Kolchek' character (or to be more exact it glossed over many of his post revolution actions). It's also the nature of the film (given that it's somewhat, shall we say, modern propoganda for the Orthodox church/white/conservative Russia) that it doesn't mention the appalling way Tsarist Russian sailors were treated which (strangely enough) led many of them to be very enthusiastic for revolution. Whatever ones views on the Bolshevik/Communists (and I'm no fan myself), one should realise that revolutions don't happen for no reason. Tsarist Russia was not a democracy; it had a vicious secret police, reform in practically all levels was desperately needed (but not forthcoming) and all dissent was ruthlessly stamped out. Ripe for revolution. Tsar Nicholas II seemed oblivious to what was happening in his country and the way many people were being exploited and was steadfastly against any reforms until the October revolution. Sadly this would end in the brutal murder of himself, the Tsarina, their children and their close servants.
@user-ei3qg7up1n
@user-ei3qg7up1n 3 года назад
Most Whites were not tsarists, if you don't know, there were two revolutions in Russia: the 1st in February 1917, was democratic and deposed the tsar, the second, in October, was already Bolshevik, after which those who did not want to obey the Bolsheviks created a white army, however, the Civil War was not caused by the overthrow of the tsar, but the Communists, yes, many officers supported the Tsar, but most of them were, both against the Tsar and against the Reds. My great-great-grandfather fought in the First World War, and when the Civil War began, he refused to participate in it, he was repressed by the Reds, because " Who is not with us, is against us!"
@yzmey42113
@yzmey42113 2 года назад
>Tsarist Russia was not a democracy Yes, so what? Russia always was a more autocratic country compared to western countries, that is not bad, it's simply the way Russia is. What works in the west, will not necessarily work in Russia and vice versa. Every time there was "democracy" in Russia, it lead to a weak government and chaos. Russia has more experience with Monarchy, even today Russia is enjoying the fruits of Monarchy, because we have a lot of land, and natural resources, because our Tsars expanded the land.

@@yzmey42113 also the fact is that Russia should have stayed with the Tsar atleast Democracy would have been out of the question instead the communist just promised thing and USSR quickly became the Virgin Russian Empire.
