This is what I do when I drag in a tri 5 Chevy car from a field or barn. Not a pro on these cars but have my own budget system I do on the cheap. Lots of useful info in this four part series so don't skip through
Appreciate the tips here. Just got a 69 Camaro 350 and 350 trans for my 57 Chevy and was not sure how to go on the mounts and crossmember. This helped me a lot.
Easiest way to put a turbo in with an early block is to use he kit that bolts to the bell housing bolts and the stock frame mounts . Without installing a crossmember
There are some of those kits on the market that are very poor made. The set I bought and used ended up bending. GM changed their design to crossmembers because it's a stronger and safer design. Especially if you put in a hotter engine
This video is very good, great tips on the Chevrolet small block, I have a 66 C10, been thinking of changing to electronic ignition, mine is 283,all original except for intake and holly 4 barrel, truck restored in 2016,,owned for 35 years, always looking for ways to upgrade for better performance and safety, thanks for sharing your knowledge on these vehicles.
Thank you Johnny. I'd have guessed it was later than that. Now I know. It makes me wonder if broken motor mounts were the reason they changed to side mounting.
My 62 has the boss' for the side engine mounts. I had a daily driver with the factory power steering and generator. It charged at idle no problem, but I am having issues with the generator I recently put in in mine.
I still have the front mounts but added a kit years ago that mounts a modern transmission to the bell housing mounts. I also have a crossmember so I have 3 mounting points. Good? Bad? I really don't know but my car has made lots of 1/4 mile dragstrip passes in the 12's (and more street races with NOS) without a problem. Headers are a problem since as you said they are pretty low.
Mid 90s lt1 camaro starters if using small flex plate think its 158 tooth. Mid 90s vette with lt1/lt4 for bigger flex plates 168 tooth. Vette and camaro starter are cheaper and last longer than the mini starters from like summit and jegs.
Good tips. I have had a bog now and was thinking it was was my carburetor power valve or a vacuum leak and was wondering could it be the distributer cutting out. Now I'm going to double check the springs. It is an aftermarket distributer. I was thinking about going back to my old HEI or orginal dual point in my 55. Thanks.
