I'm glad you let that be know about the full white leaves. You're right. Most people want that and most of those people have no idea that it will die off...... I appreciate your honesty and hopefully any sellers with leaves like this do inform the buyer of this..... I just found you out of nowhere and love your videos so far 🥰

yeah, half moon usually means reversion or full lime leaf is bound to happen soon :( But the full lime is not white, there is still chlorophyll working to create energy, no? So it is still getting energy for the plant... you'll just get smaller leaves as it's not efficient. I do happen to have a pretty large 6" pot of this guy fully variegated and a full plant- I just cut off and parts of the plant that end up producing fully green leaves, a new shoot forms, and more variegation comes from that new shoot! I've never gotten half moon or fully lime leaves, so maybe i've been lucky. I feel it's much easier to manipulate and control when you have a full plant and the option of taking off those 2-3+ leaf cuttings to preserve variegation in the long run. I sell this guy on etsy from time to time, pretty much my cheapest variegated plant with the longest disclaimer, but no one seems to actually care that there is a high chance of reversion. No complaints yet on anyone reverting which is nice and they arrived in perfect shape, so the leaves don't always get messed up in shipping- kinda rare for me. Polyfil really helps!

I can recommend a few resources that show there is no strong correlation between growth rate and variegation percentage. I also work in the hort industry and this theory on variegation is known as one of those urban myths that are generally started in plant collector circles. Personally I wouldn’t notice the difference but the way it’s explained is that plants don’t technically photosynthesise the way we presume. Specifically in how efficient a plant is at creating energy through photosynthesis. It’s leaves aren’t always going to be at 100% co2 munching all the time. Because of this, some go to the extent to argue that variegation actually shows the number inefficient cells a leaf might typically have, it kind of reminds me how humans don’t use every part of their brain at once, you know? :)

Very nice vid! I hope people will hear your advice, I see more and more fully white monsteras for sell at insane prices. Just a side note, the right adjective is variegat-um, as Philodendron is not a feminine gender but a neuter noun. ;)

You said you were going to have a video to preserve variagation, you do not sir.

The seller should have more moral like you are talking about.
