@Shelley Doxtdator I'm going to make one since so many people have asked. I'm hoping to have it up this weekend. Currently, it's being bisque fired. I hope to start glazing it tomorrow.

Tiffany, what a beautiful soul you have. This urn is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing the 'making of' with us. It took me several sessions to watch Pts 1&2; it touched my heart so profoundly that I could help but tear up when I would think about the why of the build. Amazing. Grace. Love. Kindness. All attributes you embody, dear lady. Hugs to you.

A few years ago I read or seen, sorry can’t remember that well, about a place, like a forest where you could be buried in a tree. I loved the idea when I heard it and still do, cause like you I also love trees. Your urn is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and the woman who commissioned it I feel will be very pleased that she will be resting there. Thank you for allowing me into your studio🌹

Ahh, thank you. I think I saw that story years and years ago, which is why I've always wanted to be planted in a tree. 😀

Truly beautiful. You inspired me to throw one on the wheel I'm not that great on the wheel,teaching myself but it did make one. It wasn't 100 perfect but it turned out so I ran with it and made a bud vase. It looks good so far. Just have to fire it and glaze and fire again. I'll show you finished product. But thanks for the challenge and inspiration.

Lovely!!! I just made my first donut on the wheel. I made it into a vase but might a simpler version of your tree of life vase next. You are very inspiring. I love your fairy houses, ghosts. witches and gnomes. Thank you. Your friend will rest in peace inside the urn you made for them❤

Thank you for showing the whole process. I love your creativity. I am not sure if there's a part 3 to this. I want to know how you glaze this. Did you underglaze the leaves and tree branches and then dip the whole thing in a light celadon glaze?
@hobblecreekpottery
@hobblecreekpottery Год назад
I've been getting a lot of requests to show how I plan to glaze the urn, so I've decided to give it a go. I've never filmed glazing before, and I hope I can do it in a way that isn't boring. 😀 I won't be underglazing this piece, but using just glaze. It'll take me hours!

Thank you for the lovely two videos. I made a very simple urn for my brother’s burial, basically a storage jar with fish decorations (he loved fishing). Two issues came up - how to seal the urn. We used E6000 glue. Wondering if adhesive caulk would have been more reliable. Also the Catholic cemetery required a concrete vault to bury the urn. Any finished dimensions the urn cannot exceed if the cemetery requires a vault? Have you tested the finished urn of this style to determine final volume? I realize remains are morcellized. Any minimum internal dimensions of the connecting tree needed to fill with remains without difficulty? Sorry for the technical questions. I really admire the urn you have made here and the respect that went into the process. Best regards, Marlys

I made the comparison urn for the daughter, so if the tree doesn't hold everything, the other will. I did measure the final and it held 4 1/2 cups.

Hello from the UK, I have only just begun to watch your videos but I absolutely love how you present them so well, what is the name of the clay you use I am hoping it will be available here?

Welcome! I'm glad you found me. I used bmix on this. It's a common clay and is a porcelain like stoneware.

Hi Tiffany, thank you for this amazing and inspiring project. I can’t wait to try it! I’m curious about your work surface. Is that untreated plywood? I want to. II’m thinking about plywood for my studio, but I didn’t know if the moisture would be an issue and treating the wood would make the clay stick. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
@hobblecreekpottery
@hobblecreekpottery Год назад
It's a sheet of higher quality birch. Just the cheap plywood would leave you with too many splinters. I treat it a few times a year with mineral or baby oil. It's going on its 3rd year and still holding up really well. I hope that helps. I know in the future I'll need to replace it, but so far it's doing great.

This piece is magnificent. Question: Why are there no holes in the branches when you connect them to the tree and to the bowl? Thanks!
@hobblecreekpottery
@hobblecreekpottery 5 месяцев назад
I have done that, but I had more smaller branches in this one and decided to leave the just the trunk hollow.

They won ‘t be sharp if you smooth them with your fingers or maybe your sponge.

Have you tried to have some of the leaves sticking out ? Kind of three dee.
@hobblecreekpottery
@hobblecreekpottery Год назад
I have on other pieces. Doing that can make the leaves easily break, so I kept these close to the body of the piece.
