So I am back with another video and this one is a bit long.......so please hang around and watch all of it. Watching the entire video helps with the channel numbers and every little bit helps. If any thing.....just let it play in the back ground while your doing something else. Hey.....worse case you might pick up on one or two things you didnt know. I appreciate all of you and couldnt do this with out your support.

I too can't believe that somebody gives this a thumbs down and to anyone who does give a thumbs-down ratings on any RU-vid video why not give us feedback on why you did it or are you just being a jerk? These creators put a lot of time and money and effort into these videos and get little or nothing in return for that effort! Negative responses don't help if they're not valid! As always David I appreciate your effort and job well done.

People will like and people will not. Typically what I have seen is that they dont like how I talk it down.....or take forever to find the cause and show checking this and checking that instead of jumping the point or the cause like in the series on the PT cruiser. The feel that video is me talking to a 1st grader. I have my methods and reasons.....I like to teach the steps and not show what I know to boost my ego like some others. I never know what the skill level will be of the people viewing the videos. Then again.....the title pretty much tells you this will be a basic level video. You cant make everyone happy and for the most part I can care less.....until it continues and then I happy show them the door. Got to love the power of removing a person from ever seeing or coming across the channel.

@@MotorCityMechanic I'm glad you have the last word! And hopefully laugh! It pisses me off that someone will take issue with your content yet where is their offering of anything better! My thinking is it's taking away from your ratings with YT, that's what bothers me. I hope I'm wrong.

Odd thing is that they complain (bitch) about free advice. If they were paying I would understand. Typically I dont pull the "kick out the door" card but its always there if needed. Actually its "interaction" so it doesnt hurt but actually helps to a point.

Currently doing heads because of a failed tensioner on a chrysler 3.5, still have to check rod bearings since they had a problems also replacing rockers which were garbage from factory. Also going to have my alternator rebuilt since it has 165,000 miles on it and and since I had to move it out of my way no sense finding out it needs work after busting my manly parts taking it out. Do it once and not be pissed that I cheeped out especially it is winter and snow will be here soon. love you videos and will watch more thanks

Watching your video I noticed the valve stem seals had a metal plate that went under the springs. I thought this was a good idea to help keep the steel springs from eating into the aluminum head. I have not seen this before. in the 1970's when I worked in an auto machine shop one customer ran such high spring pressure on his built 351 Cleveland racing motor that they ate into his steel heads. We machined his heads down so that the spring boss would accept a spring retainer flipped upside down so the spring had one on top and one on the bottom. Each racing season the springs got new retainers and valve keepers on top and the old top one would go to the bottom and the old bottom with wear would be thrown out. Keep up the good videos!
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 5 лет назад
I guess I have seen these so many times over the years that I never put much thought to it other then the spring keeping the seal in place which I think your idea is more along the lines of what its used for. Thanks for the comment and for watching. Make sure to subscribe Kevin.

Great vid Dave. Informative, clear info. I'd just like to add a couple of points I believe are valid. The apprentices under tuition in the mechanical engineering workshop I manage are all taught both new and old school techniques, and the circumstances in which to use either. With reference to valve lapping, they are taught to use a non abrasive coloured paste referred to a 'bearing blue' ( Its colour), to indicate equal angle of lapping within the valve seat circumference and any remaining defects, such as pitting. This technique also allows accurate measurement and comparison, if instruction requires a measurable tolerance, of both seat and valve lapping efficiently, a requirements of many stationary Japanese diesels engines when rebuilding. If unequal lapping is recognised, it is continued, and rechecked with bearing blue until accurate measurement are achieved. 👍👍🇦🇺

@MotorCityMechanic 5 лет назад
Great point! Wish someone had showed me that many years ago. Its always cool to hear from others to see things you never knew or to get a different prospective. I will certainly look more into what you mentioned. Thanks again Andrew

@@MotorCityMechanic We use Australian manufactured Powerplus bearing blue paste and liquid dye exclusively in engineering. The paste is used for accurate matching of core and cavities, and the liquid used for marking out and flatness indication. These are just a couple of examples but use seems to be endless if surface accuracy is a required necessity. Look for 'Engineers Blue' for more info. Hope it helps. 👍👍🇦🇺

When replacing new valves do you still have to grind them just as much as older valves to seat them properly.
@snaproll94e
@snaproll94e 5 лет назад
A couple things I'm sure you know but weren't said is to make sure you do not get any of the valve grinding compound on the valve stem and in the guide during the lapping process. Also, it's worth checking the guide to stem clearance even if you only do it by feel by putting the valve in the guide and making sure there isn't too much play. This probably isn't as often an issue on an overhead cam (PT Cruiser) engine but often guides are worn oversized on pushrod/rocker arm engines. Another very good video! BTW, I'm of the opinion you can lap valves using a drill, the method I think you alluded to but didn't discuss 🤔
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 5 лет назад
You are correct. I tried to include as much as I could but did leave a few items out. I like using the drill method when I can......on an engine where its hard to access the valve.....a section of rubber hose and the drill as well can be used to do the same thing. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

One thing that had me scared was putting the valve stem into the drill chuck. If it was not tight and secured, it could have spun when you were polishing it and dug some grooves in to it at the chuck.

have a question i traded for a 2014 6.4 hemi actually i pulled the motor it was a customer. he bought truck new uses amsoil and services regularly. at 175,000 started bending #7 intake pushrod. first time i removed valve cover found bent pushrod replaced and ran great no noises. lasted 2 weeks same thing this truck is a route truck drives same route each week. so i replaced once again because they needed the truck again 2 weeks same thing bent # 7 intake pushrod. replaced motor with new assembly line motor from dealer all is well. core charge was $250.00 so i bought it. the motor doesn't have any noises good oil pressure. he has a fleet of these trucks this is the only one that has had this problem. have you seen this before

It would be better to use acetone mixed with transmission fluid to clean the valves.

Once you finish learning this technique, you can go camping and light a fire without matches in no time! LOL But seriously, I saw someone use a drill with a rubber tube to spin the valve from the top side of the head. In effect this pulls on the valve instead of pushing on it. Would this be a viable alternative? Also when you clamped the valve stem in the drill you didn't protect it from the chuck jaws. Isn't there a risk of leaving scratches?

Sorry for the delay. You will get a work out for sure doing it the old school method. I have seen the method with the hose and on those you cant reach well it seems to work good. I have used the drill and when I can reach it I like to do it that way. I havent seen any issues or damage to the valve when doing it that way. Thanks for watching and for the comment Andrew. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already.

Do what? Don’t know what a “apical” tool is. If your assuming I’m selling tools....then your wrong. I don’t give links to tools for people to buy....which means I won’t make money on them but thanks for watching
