My setup is a lml 2t basically a px, 28mm phbh dellorto carb, 55 pilot av264 x2 needle clip, bgm fast flow fuel tap, mazzerchelli race crank, cosa 2 clutch, polini box exhaust, polini 177 aluminium kit, malossi Reedvalve, 62mm ram Air filter. 2 new carbone shock absorbers, new bgm cruciform, Malossi throttle cable for the carb, new clutch cable, new kickstart cog and spring, basically everything in my scoot has been replaced, taking my scoot to chiselspeed for dyno end of July Augest. :) its got a 122 main jet now lowered it from a 125 because it was too rich so leaving it now until dyno, don't wanna mess around with that too much bud bring on scooter rallys next year

Loving this series Dan. I'm working on a PK125XL and would love to have a quick overview of your impressions on a PHBL25 as the counterpoint on what things would look like for a smaller displacement setup where I'm preferring range over top speeds.
@drunkmunkey6969
@drunkmunkey6969 3 года назад
If range is your thing, the PHBL uses much smaller jets than the PHBH and is very frugal.

Dan hi. Excellent stuff and a great sharing of knowledge. One thing that must be mentioned also and is critical in setting up a carb in my mind is float level height along with the float needle as you correctly mention. Just a thought. Bolti

Enjoying your videos Dan, thank you. Your comment about fuel pumps - that should be taken care of by reducing pressure (correct choice of bypass restrictor). But if the float needle/ float valve is working properly then flooding should not be an issue... it's far too rich because the pump is overcoming the float valve. Perhaps this is where the smaller valve is actually useful.
@drunkmunkey6969
@drunkmunkey6969 4 года назад
Yup, I totally agree. I'm always trying to keep things simple...fewer complications etc. In my experience, I've never found a road-going Lambretta which needed one, or where the problem couldn't be fixed in other ways. Vespas are slightly different in that regard, but most with standard tanks and decent suspension could be set up great without one. Just the long-range fuel tanks which became problematic, but we found a great tank with pump fitted. win-win.
@Ginchiestify
@Ginchiestify 4 года назад
@@drunkmunkey6969 I guess depends a bit on your definition of "need", on the Vespa with pump I can actually run the tank completely dry at 60-70mph without having any issues. Exact same conditions on an all-day ride, my mate ran out. Because of the poor flow at the very low end of the tank, it leaned off enough to seize before he became aware of it. We do try not to run out though! :) I find - properly set up, which is dead easy - I get peace of mind that the fuel pressure is going to be exactly the same from completely full down to the last dribble... just increases the predictability that much more. However you are correct, without one you probably wouldn't notice the difference most of the time. Long winded sorry but just wanted to point out that properly set up (very very easy), there is no need at all to experience the symptoms you mention, even using quite a high pressure pump.

@giulioex125e7
@giulioex125e7 4 года назад
What do you mean by "You need to fuel the curve" when talking about ignition timing delayers? I understand that when city cruising, you are at low rpm's and therefore you have something like 23-21° ignition timings, so tecnically the engine is hotter than it would be in the same scenario but with a static ignition. What I dont understand is what do you suggest to do to fix this. You say "bigger pilot jet" I think, so from 55 to 58 maybe? By the way, great informative videos for anyone starting out, very clear and to the point, well done.

GREAT videos, learned a lot! I fitted a Dellorto fuel pump because I had the feeling that the lower the fuel level gets in the tank, the weaker was my engine. Up to no power anymore. Could that be? (Pinasco 213, RZ Mark One, PHBH30)

Hi Dan great vid again on Dellorto 28 would the jetting be the same as a30and is there any difference in fuel economy and performance between them I’m running a RT195 kit with a BGM expansion clubman thanks roll on part 3
@drunkmunkey6969

There is a marginal difference as the 28 has a smaller bore. I tend to either pitch for the 26 or the 30 as the distinction is clearer. Part 3 is out now, check the video list...

Another great video Dan. How critical is the Float Height on a 30mm PHBH carb, Dellorto Manual quotes 24mm +/- 0.5mm, that said getting it set to that level of accuracy isn't so easy - despite what a lot of the information available says. What's your view?
@drunkmunkey6969
@drunkmunkey6969 4 года назад
Wayne Booth I’ve found the Dellorto floats largely quite accurate, or at least very close, as they come out of the box. I’ve also seen Dellorto carbs with floats which were not accurately setup and it strangely hasn’t seemed to be as much of a problem on these carbs, as it is as other brands... like OKO for example. They were well known for poor float alignment, and the effects being catastrophic.

Those little things rev well and put out good power. They command a decent amount of fuel, so whilst these are reasonable starting points in the video, as I say to everyone... use them as just that, and develop them to your individual needs via road testing and plug chops 👍

@drunkmunkey6969
@drunkmunkey6969 4 года назад
Carl Eves for general overall jetting, I find them an unnecessary addition. But to have it as a ‘safety valve’ which is variable under different weather and running conditions, they can be useful. For example, if your jetting is set up perfect on a day which is 25 degrees C, but then find it a little lean on days around 5 degrees C... you can turn the power jet up (richen). 👍
@CarlEves
@CarlEves 4 года назад
The Scooter Factory that’s great thanks. Yes that’s basically how I use it. Even when coming to a stop and blipping my throttle it throws that little bit more fuel into the engine. I run a breathe sweet filter and have got an agusto 7000 retard box fitted. All your pointers make sense now. You actually put them in a way that us mere mortals can understand. Be interesting to see your graph for a standard imola 186 with a cst3 pipe to how mine measures up 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi Dan, read where a guy says to remove the main jet and if motor does not pull right through the Atomizer is too small? Not tried this myself, any thoughts on this method? Having to back off at full throttle because the motor goes flat then picks again as you back off a little, is this a sign of a rich main jet? Looking forward to part 3, well done Dan.

OK, here are a few suggestions: run a 55 pilot and a 40 slide - set mix screw to 1.5 turns out - adjust tickover to suit - check ignition timing is 17 deg BTDC - check squish is 1.2-1.5mm. See how that goes.

Hi Dan, my new Dellorto 30mm PHBH has a 45 slide in it. Is this still ok to use?? i have a big block engine Lambretta S3 and ive just fitted a new BGM RT 225 barrel kit on it with a BGM 47 tooth super strong clutch and a BGM pro clubman sport exhaust all matching. I plan on taking your advice with a 55 pilot jet, a 130 main jet, a X13 needle on second clip ( maybe use the shim to 2.5 clip ) and AV 266 atomisor and change the float valve to a 300. Is it ok with the 45 slide?? cheers. Brendan

30mm PHBH carb, starting point on jetting is as per video: 300 float valve, 55 pilot, AV266 atomiser, X13 needle (2nd clip), 40 slide, 125 main.... then do road tests and plug chops. You may find the atomiser has to drop to an AV264, but better to go large first and confirm before going so.

Hi Dan really good tips here. A mate of mine is having issues with a 210 Malossi with a 24 or 26 mm standard type carb set up. His main jet is a 130 but what about his pilot atomiser on these standard looking cars? The scoot is very lean but I have told him to turn his air oil mix screw out to 2 1/2 for a start as the Vespa is OK 1st to 3rd but hits a wall at 60 in fourth. Would this be solved via T5 fourth or is there still a carb issue caused by kit & only main jet change. On another note would you not fit a 35Mikuni to a TS1 225?.
@drunkmunkey6969
@drunkmunkey6969 4 года назад
On the si24/24 or 26 carbs, I liked the Be3 atomiser and the 55/100 pilot. As for hitting a brick wall, he’d need to check what rpm he was at when he runs out of steam, to decide if it’s a gearing issue, or something else. I did fit 35tmx to TS1’s on lots of occasions, but these days, I’d look at other options now.... get my performance from other items first, and leave the ‘big carb’ mentality till last.

TheSteelweasel yup, some people prefer them, others not so bothered. I’ve seen plenty of engines without filters run endlessly with no problems. @ericwalker2172 3 года назад
The Scooter Factory hi Dan thank you for replying to my questions so you’re saying I should have kept my TV gear box in as that was 4.8 the same as the SX 200 it’s very confusing as I was told I needed the LI box by the scooter garage who done the build as I still had a problem with the top speed from the beginning 🤔🤔🤔
@drunkmunkey6969
@drunkmunkey6969 3 года назад
@@ericwalker2172 a BGM 195 with BGM clubman and 25mm Dellorto running an SX200 box on 4.8 gearing should pull a solo rider of average weight/height no problem. However, if you ride with a pillion everywhere, lots of luggage, up hills and into headwinds, then 5.0-5.2 might be preferable. You have indicated yours is either 5.2 -5.65 but didn't specify which, in either case... 5.65 would not produce a good top speed. On 5.65 gearing, you are doing around 63mph at 7000rpm, but with 4.8 gearing you are doing 74mph at the same 7000rpm... provided the engine can pull the load. My advice is to get the correct gearing AND the correct jetting setup for the best results. Hope that helps.
