I did not realize how/why Trinidadian food seemed like it evolved from Indian food so I looked it up (so you don't have to! 🤗) "Shortly after the arrival of Indian Indentured Immigrants as a source of cheap, reliable labour, Trinidad's Colonial Government, under Lord Harris (1846-54), realised that the newcomers had by necessity, to be fed on food that they were accustomed to in India or else they would suffer malnutrition."

Here are a few of my favorite things that your parents might enjoy. I love Korean food and I think it shares a lot with our food culture. A lot of slow simmered dishes, rice, full flavored, colorful, soul food/food for the soul…..and some good spiciness. 1) Jambalaya, corn creole (which is somewhat similar to corn cheese , without the cheese lol), hot water cornbread and braised cabbage. 2) Shrimp Étouffée, dandelion greens and french bread 3) Asopáo with plantain dumplings and white rice 4) (Puerto Rican) Churrasco Encebollado, domplines, black beans, white rice, avocado and tomato salad

Trinidadian Chicken is delish. Tablespoon of Hugh heat oil like Sunflower brown sugar throw in pieces of cleaned, cut dried chicken stir many times let cook until tender. Yum!!!!

Trinciti is so amazing I can taste the doubles. Had this all the time in college but haven’t been back since Covid. If you’re in NY you gotta try it best Trinidadian food in the city!
