I appreciate the story, because i'am a coin medal collector too. My mother is a collector too (whom I followed), so when she "passed-away" she left all her "hoard" to me. ☺

He could buy and sell profitably from the collection if he does his research. There's margins there. He wouldn't necessarily have to deplete the collection's value and could even expand it even while profiting from it.
I don't collect coins, but I do collect vintage computer technology and software. Aa a retired senior with far more days behind me than ahead of me, I often wonder what will become of my collection when I'm gone. Family will sell it with no appreciation for the value of individual items, and friends will have no idea what to do with it. No one will truly understand the emotional connection it will have to the memory of me. I envy this gentleman who knew exactly who to leave his coins to.

The grandpa was a good judge of character. I knew an old lady in Louisiana whose family was French nobility. Came here during the Revolution. Brought their precious heirlooms… gold jewelry, diamonds, furniture, paintings, chandeliers, China, etc. Probably 3+ centuries. She the last and had 2 pothead daughters. When the old lady died, they brought an auction house. Sold everything for cash and moved on.
I'm a heavy game collector at 17 years old and I'd like to have a lot of old Nintendo and Sega video games considering I grew up with the Sega Genesis and GameCube at four years old. The funny thing is I found most of my collection in apartment dumpsters and they work perfect.
Maybe Kyle should allow a public exhibition of the coin collection in a secure gallery or museum type of location. 3 months or so for the public to learn about the collector and his collection. Just a thought.
My grandfather passed away in January along with my father in 2022. The whole family when we got together, we’re getting chaotic out of control and unpredictable treating me like shit my instincts, including the feeling on my grandfather talking to me told me to go vacation in Miami since that’s where everything in my life went wrong, which is another story, anyway after I got back, we were talking about the inheritance the collection. My grandfather had went to my dad because he passed away. It went straight to me and it’s worth a lot of money. It’s enough for me to be wealthy if I invest it the right way. Even to this day, I haven’t touched them until I find the best value I can get from them.
For anyone wondering. It led to his grandfathers coin collection that was worth a fuck Ton of money, he didn’t sell it and continued what his grandfather did, collecting coins
I can certainly have some admiration & respect for this dude retaining his grandpa's coin collection. On the other hand, if the coin collection has about the same value as assets given to the other family members, I would most anticipate he would perhaps cash in. That way with the nice substantial fortune he can deposit into his bank & other financial accounts, not only it would be extra money he can use to make payments on a variety of his bills & debts. With up to a significant sum leftover, it can also help him in his life. Even though he respected his grandpa in this manner, I would hope the cabin also possessed other valuable items he was able to cash in & make deposits in his accounts such as jewelry, bonds, etc.

Reminds me of a picket line I was on during Christmas. Around a fire on the street, I asked one of my UNION BROTHERS to tell us a Christmas story. He said, “sometimes the right thing goes wrong”. Before they went to grandma’s house his mother reminded him that Grandma was poor, and couldn’t afford an expensive gift. So, when grandma asked him what he wanted, he replied, “a bag of candy would be great”. On CHRISTMAS day his cousins received bicycles, designer clothing, and jewelry from grandma, while my friend sucked on his bitter -sweet treat. Hope she remembered him in her will. So, listen to your MA. Three out of four times she’ll be right!
yea... still.. he has to pay TAXES on that fortune.. and Inheritance tax is OBSCENE ( needs eliminated ).. so unless he was already wealthy ? he had to sell something..because if a Half Mil was now worth Mocking.. his taxes would exceed that.
for the ones who dont wanna waste time: it was a coin colection (he didn’t sell them cause he knew his grandfather only trusted him with them and he knew the emotional value of the coins)
I respect his Grandfather trusting him with the collection but why would he leave his other greedy relatives, millions of dollars when they ignored him when he was sick and leave his grandson who took care of him virtually nothing if he did not expect his to sell the coins.
