You’re not the only one with that same thought we’ve had so many people reach out wanting us to blast the previous owner and the builder. But it’s still doing the bigger better thing to us and it really doesn’t matter. They’re not the only ones out there doing it wrong it’s happening every day we’re just glad we can point out the way to do it right.. as for the repairs One had a wire broken and I believe the other side was window motor and regulator. Not sure on the Locks. I’ll get the full details when the ticket comes across us to what we did. And we appreciate the support and the following.
The black paint runs under the dash are impressive enough, but did.. did they honestly just pop the hood and blindly rattle can everything black?What space cadet decided to paint stuff like rubber hoses and the brake fluid reservoir? Lol
I've been working on my 82 and it was my first time doing body work and painting. This makes me feel better about myself. At least my battery and radiator are held down with some actual fasteners. The aftermarket gauges self tappered into the ash tray drives me nuts. Use a pillar mount gauge pod or go to digital gauges or something.
I know you all can and will get it all straightened out so it can go to a new home and be the truck someone will be proud to own.,and that is what it really is all about at the end of the day, the love and respect for these old square bodies. IMO they are the best Chevy trucks ever produced and everyone loves them .
We agreed to the only purpose of this video. It was not about complaining or whining. It was just to expose the real side of the business and warn people that may not have the abilities that we do to make it right.
I had an 85' and I hated the SOB. Worst damn pickup truck I have ever owned. Make a list of what wasn't replaced and you'll see it was a short one indeed. The day I finally got it sold and it wasn't in my driveway any longer literally put a smile across my face because I knew that the misery of owner's was o ver. 😊
You have to think that the truck is 90% Bondo. With the rusted out corners of the cab being stuffed with Bondo soaked paper towels and a quart of filler.
@@DavisOffRoad1 I’ve seen scanners that can measure the thickness of filler. With what you have shown of the rest of their work I would doubt they stuck to the maximum thickness recommendation. I find nothing wrong with filler. If it’s done right.
Yes, sir most every vehicle has some in it especially if it’s a custom or restored vehicle, but it needs to be done properly here exactly right we owned one of those scanners that you are referringto. It didn’t work very great, but it was a good guide. The problem was today’s metal and old-school metal and the thickness of paint, etc. varies tremendously so it was very inconsistent.
@@DavisOffRoad1 I grew up around repair and my uncle had a big car collection. Old timers like him considered a first class resto as no bondo, only lead work. Not that he didn't use bondo, but for the really high end stuff he used to have a guy come to his shop and do lead work. I remember the guy, his name was Denny and he would show up with his torch, lead bars, wooden paddles, files etc and what he could do with lead was amazing. He always seemed kinda wacked out though, maybe it was all the lead. I was a young teen and I tried to learn it from him, but when I did it all the lead ended up on the garage floor. Probably a good thing I didn't learn that lol
Customer here bought a 64 vette, took it to guy to check out. Tire fell off on a test ride cuz they had the knock off hubs on the wrong size. $20k later he'll have a decent ride.
I watched the first video of this, and i think you should call out who ever it was. I think everyone needs to know who it is to avoid. This is just awful. I cant believe they rattle canned everything under the hood black. The windshield washer fluid tank? I mean come on. It woulda made more sense to just have removed it! It prolly doesn’t work anyways. After seeing the battery grounds and the radiator, i think you should say something. This is not a full frame off rebuild. This is a slap hack job. The entire drive terrain needs to be gone thru. I had a ‘79 square body just like this, i converted it all one ton, dana 60 with 5:13’s “, 14 bolt ff rear, sm465 and np205 twin sticked witha 203 doubler, gives a 4:1 crawl ratio! It was a straight truck, little rust in the floor boards, but it was straight and clean! All My work was in the drive terrain and axles and the motor. It had a 454 in it when ingot it and, i put a sb350 in i had on a stand, it was a 4 bolt main block with the basics ,eddlebrock intake and 4 barrel 650 cfm, mallory ignition, mallory dist with uni lite pickup conversion, almun 4 Core rad. Like it was done up nice and clean, not cheap but not over the top. The biggest thing is to make sure its done right! Its better to use cheaper parts and do it right rather than top of the line parts and half slap job it. Who ever ‘did’ this truck Put all their time and money into the paint job. I question the quality of the body work. The stuff you cant see thats under neith haha. Bondo bucket! They simply polished a turd and made it shiny. Everything underneath the shiny red paint they just made it black, and made it shiny so you couldn’t see it! Thats the oldest trick in the book for a used shade tree car lot. Black gloss rattle can the .99 cent/ can special at walmart. Hose everything underneath on the chassis. Rust what rust? Its black gloss! Oil leaks? Lol thats not oil thats gloss black! You cant see oil leaks of its gloss black! If i went to look at something and the whole entire underside was rattle caned black id walk away. It wasn’t done to try and make it look good it was done to hide something. Now if things had been meticulously masked off, taped off, wite brushed, cleaned pressure washed and then spray Painted using a piece of card board as an edging tool to prevent overspray. Then heck ya, bonus points. Your showing that you want to protect the frame and axles and keep it clean and easier to keep clean. Not just spray painting it blindly all over like a blind man. Its going to take more time to clean up everything that was done incorrectly and half slap Job. New windshield washer tank, coolant tanks would make it look clean and nice. How clean the wiring under the hood tells another whole story. If you pop the hood and see wires just hanging all Over and the ground zip screwed to the inner fender holding the battery down? Id run. But if you pop the hood and see everything loomed and zip tied real nice and secured where its supposed to be, solder/ crimp spliced and connectors heat shrieked and loomed, that tells you someone did it right and spent some Time! The ‘79 square body i did year’s ago was done up right! It wasnt a show truck or a ‘restore’. It was a wheeling/ hinting truck on 38” bogeys! I wasn’t scared to bounce it off a tree. It was straight when i got it and built it. Hehe. This trucks just disgusting, like the one other dood in the comments said, its still gunna be a $5000 truck, unless you take it down to every last nut and bolt and meticulously redo everything from the ground up this time. Id wuestion the motor and drive terrain, thats still half ton by the way. Junk semi float rear axle and a chintzy half ton front axle. Put a dana 60 up front with cross over steering and high steer.
not sure if i can feel sorry for you or not.did you buy the truck sight unseen with no pics?as even if you bid on line and they had pics,this is yours or who ever bid on things for you fault.the truck you can see by the pics its was not good!!!box body line didn't line up with cab, door to cab gap was bad, fender to door gap was bad, motor dept was horrible mean cmon,who buying this stuff for you??

Is this the same truck from Tennessee area marketplace a while back? Don’t think it had the seat done but it said it needed a cluster that was pictured sitting on the seat
Okay, after watching the videos and reading the comments my conclusion is that you are probably not going after the seller or the auction house because although it may have been described as restored, that you still bought it for the right money for its true condition. Considering all the repairs and corrections that are needed, if you are able to sell it for a modest profit at $30k, then you didn't pay a bunch at the auction that you were an online bidder. You have a passion for these trucks, it will be fun to see this one go through your shop and rise up to its potential.
Probably won’t be any profit, but still keeps the guys busy ( not like we are short on work) but also it’s a bee in the bigger person. There has been contact from the previous owner and the Auction per these videos so everything happens for a reason and we believe there’s a good future to come from bringing light from a bad situation.
@@DavisOffRoad1 Best wishes, a modest profit is better than a loss. Good luck with getting the seller to step up. Anyone listing a truck like that as restored knew what they were doing was wrong. My guess is there is a trail of other victims who received far less than what they paid for from that seller.
They’re definitely is quite a few and that is what has transpired and unfolded for this, but hopefully they’ll be no more in the future. That’s for sure.
@@DavisOffRoad1 Once a crooked operator gets a taste of the easy cash from fake restorations the only thing that slows them down for a while is prison time. They will likely run this or a similar scam until their last earthly days. They basically have no morals and love to find people who give them the benefit of the doubt. They don't deserve any consideration from you, they only say they are sorry when they get caught - otherwise its business as usual for these fraudsters.
When the hundreds of thousands of followers across our different platforms, see the real resolve I think things will change, but you are correct once a snake always a snake

People joke about maaco but in our area they have some of the most up to date facilities there are.. not the best at prep but they can do some good painting… I wouldn’t even downgrade maaco to this low level lol
That's good Maaco great in your area, and yea, there facility are great i agree. I used to put up paint booths and all the fixings, but some of the work I saw roll out the shops reminded me of looks good from my house type.

Since you are not expecting any meaningful remuneration, I still don’t understand why you are protecting the remorseless seller. Given everything else about this bubblegum spray bomb restoration, there is zero chances that the body was actually properly restored prior to painting. You got yourself a real pig in a poke. In a couple of years when the shine is dulling, the rust and poor body repairs will make them selves known.
It will be 100% better than it was, but will still be a very fair priced unit as with any of the ones that we sell you couldn’t even begin to do the work nor the labor for what they sell for they are expensive, but as is currently and will continue to climb
