could you show how to make the tool you used to get that coil i have been trying to make my own cable and want a good coil

Please link the grounding rod clamp you use. I've searched online but none of them specify the type of hex bolt they use. The 1/2" grounding rod clamp I bought is too small to fit the 3/8" -16 hex bolt I have.

Hey great video man, I just had one question. What if I already soldered the usb connectors to the cable? Would I be able to still bake them or would the oven remelt the solder? Or what if say I used a mass produced usb c cable (made of nylon paracord with aluminum leads)? Would I be able to just coil that cable around a piece of metal and throw it in the over? Thanks in advance!
@voxelmods
@voxelmods 3 года назад
Thanks! You can bake your cables with the soldering done, but your mileage may vary based on your oven. Start at a lower temperature, and try testing the temp first. Coiling a factory made braided cable *should* be possible, but again, the result will vary based on the qualities of the cable you started from. That was how I did my very first coil too! Just with a heat gun Good luck!

Hey! I'm from Brazil, and I find your videos very interesting, I've already bought most of the items to compose, but I had the doubt, how long do you leave it in the electric oven?

Hey bro,how long was the part of the cable from the kbd to the connector? I wanna know if a 1.8m cable is enough for the coil,than use a 1.2m spare to route it to the pc
@marek_sebesta
@marek_sebesta 2 года назад
1,8m cable will give you like 14cm coil,, approx

Is it safe to put the cable in the oven. Are there no toxic fumes?
@voxelmods
@voxelmods Год назад
It's plenty safe in my personal opinion, and I don't really smell any fumes when i bake my coils!

I tried a heatgun for a few minutes and was wondering why my coil didn’t hold shape…. 50 minutes in the oven…guess i need to heat it longer.

Is the tube 1/2 inch or 3/8? Do you make coils with either diameter or just one coil size?

Can techflex brown during the baking process? One of my friend's ordered a yellow coiled cable with clear techflex and the coiled portion was brownish compared to the straight host end.
@voxelmods
@voxelmods 3 года назад
I've never seen a coil become discolored during baking, not in 300+ coils baked. If its genuinely discolored (and not the natural result of clear techflex over yellow), then that's a strange situation, and I would recommend talking to the maker to see if your friend could send it back for replacement/repair
@ppenduko
@ppenduko 3 года назад
Hi. Do you paint your own connector?
@G.AngHWBG
@G.AngHWBG 3 года назад
Why would you bake it one more time? Does not this defeat the purpose of reversing it?
@voxelmods
@voxelmods 3 года назад
No, the purpose of baking and freezing is to set the coils shape. By reversing between cycles, it changes the tightness and properties of the coil. Baking once and reversing without a second heat/cool cycle could result in very poor results

I'm afraid I was overwhelmed with orders and have had to shift away from tutorials in general. The quick rundown is 1. Sleeve two color til they meet and overlap a little 2. Slide a 1.5 inch piece of 1/4in diameter heatshrink (clear) onto the seam 3. Heat with the blue part of a lighters flame til the seam is melted together. Don't go too far 4. Remove the heatshrink entirely 5. Techflex and beyond!

Any plans of continuation of these tutorials? Would love to see more as you have done excellent job at explaining it so far. And also pulled me into diy cables. 😁❤️

Honestly I don't have the bandwidth for long form content anymore. My best recommendation is to join my discord server and head over to the DIY channels! We have a small, welcoming community there that focuses on helping each other with cables as they're working. Link can be found on my website or Instagram link tree!
