Great job. I'm a ford guy that loves MoPar's. Guess I'm getting old. Back in 67 on my way to my first job I would pass a dodge dealer in north east Ohio. Down one side of the road in their lot they had 2 dozen Super Bee's lined up with their rear end stripes sticking in your face. What were they 3 or 4 grand. Damn

AWESOME. I've been gradually restoring a 1977 Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am and it's FINALLY at this stage. The last couple of weeks have been putting the "pretty parts" in, and it's oh so satisfying after all the fixing rust, body work, painting, wiring, etc etc etc to finally see it "coming to life", as you said. I love these old Chargers. I had a '68 that I was going to start on after the Trans Am was finished, but I ended up having to sell it, and I've been kicking myself in the ass ever since.

As a Charger junkie and auto painter, I believe a straight body and paint job are necessary. This is a nice Charger and you've gone this far. It doesn't need to be show ready, just clean.

When I first started watching his videos I too thought he should paint it. But then the rusted look grew on me. It actually is art the way he's doing the car. Beautiful on the inside but she has her age scars on the outside. Sometimes wear and tear can turn into something great, like the Grand Canyon.

One thing we always do with our cars was to squirt some automatic transmission fluid in through the window channel of a fully assembled door on a hot day and let it run down into the bottom of the door to soak the door skin to door frame seam. Then when water gets in there to the seam it doesn't rust it out. ATF will not stain the paint and easy to wipe off the excess. It is so thin it gets into those seams really well.

The bottom of the plastic is supposed to tuck into the long slot at the lower part of the door above where you glued it. This directs the water back into the door. Same with the quarter window plastic. Look close at it next time you take a original door apart.Love the car great work!

This is the original interior color of the General Lee. Most people think it was black but they all had this beige camel color interior. They were saying in the episode where they flash backed to when they got the General Lee John Schneider wasn't sure if that Charger had black interior but on every show besides that one, where they showed the interior it was always this color.

you know its fun to watch a dodge charger version of corvette ben for once, as I dont have that nagging feeling that the car's made by GM, and it'll fall apart at 80K miles on purpose, and that its a futile attempt to get into it because it'll just inevitably leave you disappointed in some way or another, as i have yet to see anyone ever get disappointed by a dodge charger of any era. although their is one thing that's getting me and I've never picked up on it till now, is that the parking brake is that style, i thought maybe they'd have a proper center console parking brake on them as if they didnt have that as an option, does that mean they had to retrofit that to all those general lees to do their trademark skids? but just a fun little tip here, one of the major things that improved the dodge chargers acceleration was electronic ignition, they actually had them on the 73's and it made a noticeable improvement on the power delivery of the car, and that comes straight from someone who was there and tested them back in the day new for a car magazine. car in particular was a 73 440 SE too! also FYI chrome is actually a three stage treatment on those, copper, Nickel and then the chrome, I guess kinda like a paintjob, you have the primer, paint and gloss, difference is the paint's shiney enough and resistant enough to pass as the gloss! so when you rub that down that might be more nickel than chrome now! learned that from a guy who used to do rolls royce bumpers too. also with the door panels, Ben actually used of all things, toothpaste and a brush to bring that back without fogging it, as sometimes those things are just dirty, plus if your fogging if you screw it up anyways its not gonna matter in the long run as it is.

Yeah like the thin foam in headliners. 900 dollars is still to much though. I understand overhead and low volume pieces but the materials can be used on many different applications. Sounds like the first guy gets charged for the mold and material and everyone else is profit aside from time and material lol. But it definitely explains why you work so hard to reuse original parts Brother.

Tooling for trim bits, etc. is not inexpensive;add-in business:labor, materials, insurance, utilities, rent, etc. and some profit....niche (low-volume)parts prices get out of hand real quick. Now, I've got him better on covering door skins....just bust out scissors and good quality Black duct tape.....gets every nook and cranny sealed...plus the added benefit of not having to remove everything the next time should a window regulator need grease, issue with handle-mechanism,etc. arises. The icing on the cake is a very thin layer of foam-padding.just barely held on by 3M heavy-duty spray-glue that helps enormously with wind/vibration suppression (FedX and others carry the thin foam). Many high-end vehicles use thin foam between the door-panel and door-skin. The door-panel,armrest,etc. once screwed-snapped in place will keep the foam-padding in place and will be able to be re-used.....if/when future dis-assembly of the door-panel is required.
