In this video, we continue to try and figure out why the fuel gauge isn't showing correctly.
We go about changing the fuel sender for a new one, and see where and how it's mounted.
This will be a multipart video to see if we can figure out the fault.

It only goes in one way. It should line up with the tabs in the tank ring and the tabs on the sending unit. Had you oriented the sending unit the other way around the gauge would work in reverse. Some of these sending units can be taken apart very easily and you may find corrosion inside that you may be able to clean out and make an old unit work. Just did it on a 1976 Spitfire , and that unit was 20 years old. Is a temporary fix but the unit is spot on now , the best it’s been in many years. That’s a beautiful car and we do what we need to keep them on the road. No body wants to run out of fuel because of a faulty gauge or sending unit.

@@MarineEngineServicing all done! I had the same situation as you with ~6L fuel reading on empty. Outside of the tank the unit was working fine and when finally added an additional 10L I had a 1/4 tank indicated, so I’m happy with that and the 6L being emergency reserve. Remarkably the sender I removed looked to be the original Smiths Industries unit. Even more remarkable, the new sender was made in U.K.!
