This video is designed to give a basic and thorough overview of the Moog DFAM (Drummer from another Mother). The DFAM is a complex, yet simple, percussive synth that can be very hard to get the hang of. This series breaks down the complexities of the DFAM into small and manageable chunks. By the end of the series, you'll have a strong understanding of each part of the DFAM and how it contributes to the overall sound as well as how it interacts with the other parts. Additionally, the videos will cover how to use the patchbay and give helpful pairing tips so you can build your own DFAM patches.
As a bonus - there are some videos on building patches from scratch and videos covering completed patches for you to use.
There are more resources on my Patreon Page including a full color eBook of DFAM patches with links to tutorial videos. The eBook will be updated regularly with new patches and tips.

This is a fantastic resource! Thank you so much. I’ve just purchased my dfam and thought I’d be reliant on other people’s patches without maybe ever knowing what I’m doing. This has really accelerated my learning curve 👍

your walkthrough of each section and function is really helping me! each time I think through the DFAM (in fact, basically any subtractive synth) like this, I feel like my capabilities & appreciation of synthesis improve by 1-5%... it's cumulative! what a beautiful beast of a synth, excited for the rest of the tutorial :)

I'm 'using' my DFAM for many years, just tweaking knobs without actually exact knowing what I'm doing. This video explained so much about this semi-modular synth. Thanks !! Really appreciate your work you've put into these video's.

Your videos add just enough context so they're easy to follow compared to Korg's manual. I would never read the manual for entertainment but your videos are fun!

Mults, VCAs, and very slow LFOs are the key to making this thing more subtle. The DFAM is like a sledgehammer-no subtleties. Attenuation is your friend.

Definitely, having an external attenuator is a great addition to the DFAM!

these are fantastic, thanks. I almost immediately fell in love with my Subharmonicon. Wasn't too sure about the DFAM. I've been exploring it more and am really starting to have fun with it, but approaching it a bit randomly. This is very helpful. Hopefully I'll find something to like about the mother-32 eventually.
