This video is designed to give a basic and thorough overview of the Moog DFAM (Drummer from another Mother). The DFAM is a complex, yet simple, percussive synth that can be very hard to get the hang of. This series breaks down the complexities of the DFAM into small and manageable chunks. By the end of the series, you'll have a strong understanding of each part of the DFAM and how it contributes to the overall sound as well as how it interacts with the other parts. Additionally, the videos will cover how to use the patchbay and give helpful pairing tips so you can build your own DFAM patches.
As a bonus - there are some videos on building patches from scratch and videos covering completed patches for you to use.
There are more resources on my Patreon Page including a full color eBook of DFAM patches with links to tutorial videos. The eBook will be updated regularly with new patches and tips.

thanks for sharing these great videos on DFAM, guess Mother 32 is the perfect partner for dfam but the new Pittsburgh TAIGA should work well with Dfam also, eh?!

Oh yeah, I've been using my DFAM with my modular system too. That Taiga will pair really nicely! :)

This is great, however I really wish you would use the DFAM's outputs to illustrate the patchbay more. You keep using fun outputs on the Mother 32, but those of us without the Mother 32's LFO are wishing for more hints on patching within the DFAM. Otherwise, great series, and much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. That's a good point. I think the DFAM really shines though when you start to use the patchbay in conjunction with other modules/Synths.

I think the next frontier I really need to start exploring on the DFAM is tempo-synched or phase-related LFO modulation (e.g. Mutable Tides, WMD Modbox, Batumi). I like how free-running modulation gives an organic push-and-pull, but I need to try more "on the grid" modulation since it's a drum beat and all! Just gotta find my tempo-synch LFO modules...

I mentioned Pam's Pro Workout in another comment. It's definitely a module worth checking out. You can change the shape of the triggers and have it stretched over however many beats you want....

Great serie! Thanks a lot. I have a question: what will happen if I patch two in or two out? Is some risk to damage something? I can't find any information in manual booklet.
@braintree56

I don't think it would cause any damage and I have done this many times by accident and nothing has happened. Most modules (and these Moog Synths) are able to handle it - but I've read stories about some modules getting damaged... I think that's probably unlikely. I don't think you have much to worry about.

I did this also by accident, and on the begining when used for the first time DFAM. If it was dangerous, they would have warned about it in the manual. I think so.
