GHAD-39 Real World Test Pt3 -- Continuing on with the testing project using the excellent value-based Gaahleri GHAD-39 .35mm/.5mm airbrush.
Follow on to Part 2, I spend some time in between painting handling the chipping stages. Additionally, I discuss information in regards to MMP and the Poly Additive product. Recommend to take notes, because this is a good overview of the process and provides clarity on how to gain the best from these products...alongside additional thoughts, as I continue to work with the GHAD-39 airbrush throughout.

i just received mine. My first impression - it felt like a generic chinese rebadged airbrush until I used it. Stellar performance! Plus point - it comes with spare seals, lubricant and is already equiped with hose quick connect! When you want to back blow the airbrush, DO NOT uncrew the nozzle! Paint will shoot out from the cup! Tell me how I know. Just cover the airbrush tip or use the supplied nozzle protector if you want to back blow for cleaning/mixing.

Yes, agreed and the point of showing this test. Use them! Don't let it sit in the box. Enjoy, and watch how I do a correct blowback procedure. You shouldn’t be removing parts when the airbrush is loaded, simply cover the end and use gentle trigger pull to initiate a mild blowback effect. It’s best used during cleaning, and you’ll be better off mixing outside the airbrush and poring the mix into the airbrush cup, as shown here in these videos, for the paint.

What kind of solvent do you use to clean out your airbrush considering MMP can behave badly if it comes into contact with the wrong chemical? Great video, this looks like the airbrush I have been looking for to use exclusively with my MMP paints.

Thank you, and to clarify, I don't use solvents to clean anything with MMP related tools. Soap and water, flush with water and final clean with the thinner. Createx Restorer is useful for a severe issue of dried paint, however ensure it doesn't contact the o-rings or is sprayed through (assuming you've disassembled the airbrush). Confine that to the metal only, then repeat the above.

I saw something online that suggests pouring thinner down the back of the airbrush while blowing air to clean it out. That'd be great to get those hard-to-reach places, but I feel like that much thinner would be bad for the internals of the brush. I mostly use lacquers and I try to be judicious in where I just pour my caustic chemicals 😀 What are your thoughts on cleaning by running thinner through the entire airbrush?

I left the lacquer conversation many years ago, besides being extremely toxic chemicals they will strip chrome and ruin o-rings on the regular. You are correct, it's not the best idea. I've worn through multiple airbrushes using lacquers for years, and I don't recommend it given your chemical preference. Take your time and get some cheap swabs and airbrush cleaner tools on Amazon. If you're getting paint in the body, you may also have a worn teflon seal in the needle support shaft inside the body. It's a critical part, and should be checked. It's the part that prevents blow back into the body. Another benefit of being water-based is that's all a thing of the past. You guys keep hanging on to lacquers like it's a thing, and the single best decision I made regarding painting was swapping them out. You should store your used chemicals in a sealed container and occasionally drop it off at a local disposal center, most auto parts stores will take it off your hands.

@@rs.p I'm sure they would, as would many modelers considering how much I paid for them 🤑 I might one day get back to acrylics. I tried them before stepping away from the hobby for a a few years and found them to be very finicky, where lacquers don't seem to care how much you slap down. For a novice hand like mine, I just wasn't getting results I like. I also like painting shiny-shiny stuff, and all the good metallics I see are lacquer (Alclad, Gaianotes). I love watching the weathering, but I just can't make love to a model that long, so I paint 'em clean and watch the dirty videos 😜

@@jayday3818 Nothing I'm showing, or talking about, is unique between a clean or weathered build, or how that paint job is approached with primer and base layers. The type of chemical isn't the determining factor in whether it comes out good or bad, or making a metallic look proper. I spend more time disproving the skeptical paint obsession in this hobby...than I do showing you the how-to's on screen. Those outside the hobby already know this, and left the convo a long time ago. I think it's a shame, this hobby has such a long way to go yet. I hear the excuses all the time, and regardless of what I show or teach, it's this on repeat--skeptical POV's do nothing for you. Spraying is spraying, and understanding solvents and alcohols chems don't work with water-based paints. Once you learn this, the rest is easy.

i just add thinner into the airbrush cup, mix it, back blow it and pour it out. Repeat until its almost clear and then blow through the thinner

@@rs.p A fair complaint, but I think we need to turn to Master Yoda for the angle here: You must _unlearn_ what you have learned. 😆 I'm happy to hear what I've known to be wrong, but I find myself pushing back as I look at my $100s of paint that should be thrown out, only to buy $100s more... I want to make extra-sure what I'm hearing is correct before I go and make a drastic change like that. And it can be tough to tell how much of the result is thanks to the product and how much is thanks to the modeler's talent. The Mig acrylics I got a few years ago were really frustrating and didn't turn out at all like I wanted, but Mig himself made a masterpiece with them. I'm about ready to switch to acrylics given the amount of cleaning I do, plus the cost of the thinners. I'm just so invested in lacquers now that I can't make that change on a whim (and might justify myself a _little_ too much because of it).
