Hello or Hei from the Norwegian mountains…. We have long long winters up here, ideal for catching up on all the times in my teens and twenties when medical studies and competitive swimming interfered with my musical curiosity. However, my first wife was/is a knockout Stones fan, we ended up on the 12 th row at my first Stones concert in a 3000 capacity theatre in Glasgow Scotland. Never forget the opening number Honky Tonk, the whole auditorium were on their feet, took 30 mins to reseat them with Faraway eyes. Managed since then to see the Stones live in both London, Bergen and Oslo… Blown away each time….. I am now 71 and even more of a fan, music is life and healing, I feel the Stones are a growing part of me in my retirement years, in my secret life! I have a beautiful strong Norwegian redhead wife, we God willing will celebrate 40 years of marriage midsummer, we have sheep on our restored mountain farm. Now my wife has been talking about Goats…. Coincidence? Maybe next year, Goats Head Soup! Love your phenomenal engagement, do not stop! All best Alex, Scottish Viking, in Norway.

Hei Alex, thanks for sharing your details...great to hear! I have a few Norwegians watching. I have been to Oslo, Bergen, Bodo, and would go there tomorrow if I could. Great that you share the Stones passion with a lovely wife! Amazing to see them in such a small venue! Being around Animals is wonderful. If you can, for a laugh, check out this small clip of a New Zealand little girl on RU-vid, search "fuckin goat outside" Enjoy my other docs....!! cheers Steve

Love your painstaking analysis and insights - I have felt this same passion for the Stones even since I discovered their music as a awkward teenager: The Stones spoke to me like no other band then and still do to this day....Please continue to dive into their catalog and deliver these in depth breakdowns, because people need to know as much about the greatest rock and roll band that ever was as there is to know :)

There’s nothing more I could add to what has already been said by only the most astute fans, but around the middle of your bloodletting of Brussels, I had to cry out loud. Never a better choice of words that have been prospected from only a area your soul just discovered. They’re not the reason I’ve been playing all my life ,but why not. First saw them at Steel Pier in Atlantic City when I was 13. Went on to always catch them in Philly with our collection of intellectual street ruffians, musicians and non, in 72 , 74 , 78 , 80.and 94 . (Finally got sober in 92, best thing I ever did.) Once again,thank you for all 3 parts and the stuff you put up there. Your close to the best ! Peace, Rocky

I have not found much other then IORR.org...Facebook groups, do not dive in, they like to share their shows they see, and show some info, but not a forum to learn. There is a good podcast from 2 canadian dudes UNDER THE RADAR, but they are not consistent with uploading content. I concur with a lot of your vision. 1976 was the start of my love affair at Knebworth Estate in England when I was amongst circa 200,000 to live the dream. I’ve been enraptured ever since. The Stones gave it to the radio when they realized a live album wasn't in the cards. That was one of the sources for the bootlegs, and why those early bootlegs had such good sound.

Great live era for sure. So natural. I love seeing the feirce youthful footage from this time. In regards to Criss Cross...it's a fantastic song. I do prefer the original bootleg version that has that longer buildup riff and doesn't have the toe to toe, etc lyrics. What I do really love about this official version is how much louder Keith's open G guitar is in the right channel - simple, fantastic, and very All down the line/ Brown Sugar stuff. I had to stop listening to the boot version to get acclimated to this one, which I have over the years now. Not sure why they would cut out that longer intro and chose this take over over that one. Thanks for clearing up that main guitar is being played by Jagger. The new vocal work on All the Rage definitely feels out of place for me to this very fun and familiar style song (elements of Honky Tonk Women and Good Time Women) . I like how the main riff by Keith is a bit of a prelude to what he would later do on Little T & A. Scarlet is good and the perfect example of what keith and Mick are and how they blance each other. Keith's riffs and vocals are so ragged and Mick brings a smoother structure, which works well enough here.

The Super Deluxe version is worth the price alone for the inclusion of The Brussels Affair live concert. One only has to listen to Taylor's playing on the Stones greatest live album - yes even better than the sublime Ya Ya's - The Brussels Affair. The Rolling Stones Midnight Rambler Live - Forest National (Brussels, Belgium) Oct 17, 1973. - The sublime instrumental twin guitar break two minutes into Midnight Rambler, is one of the greatest in rock 'n' roll history. Complimented by Keith Richards monstrous, burn your house down rhythm guitar slashes, Mick Taylor enters serious neo-psychedelic blues - third eye - guitar territory. On this majestic, Brechtian - think 'The Ballad of Mack the Knife' from The Threepenny Opera - meets urban voodoo of a song, Taylor proves he was one of the greatest most inspired guitar players of the 60's/70's. For five short years the Stones, with Taylor proved that they truly were the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world.

Times are changing and I can’t believe how lucky I am to have been there for all this incredible music. The Rolling Stones if you really sit and listen to this band you can’t help to realize that these guys are definitely the greatest band of all time. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a better moment of live music than this version of “Midnight Rambler”. Mick’s call and response with the crowd is amazing. And kudos to the crowd for understanding the moment and barking back at Mick. Taylor’s lead at the 5:51 mark has such a wonderful live music vibe. The Stones always remind me of England, which I was forced to leave with the family when I was 12 - to go to Sweden where my mother was from. So right there we have something in common since most of their Women seem to be from there - but I hated Sweden and left for NZ in 1983. Hence I am a big fan and like virtually everything they ever did; also I met them when I was about 6-7 in Bournemouth in 64 or 5. I am not making it up and I will tell the story if you want; I insulted them as they were known as the "bad boys" whereas The Beatles (whom I also met briefly) were "good".. I love your videos and you have me enthusiastic all over again and pining for my young days in good old blighty... so big thanks for that. Ive got a powerfull amp setup and no neighbours for miles so when you tell me to play it LOUD they can hear The Stones in Australia... I hope the cnuts are grateful! Much Aroha from Aotearoa

I got Brussels as a download a few years ago. I agree----probably the greatest live Stones document. It has the rawness of Ya Yas but with better integrated Taylor, horns and keybs and so much great early 70's repertoire. Mick actually sounds committed to his vocal performances (let's face it, it wasn't always so in the ensuing decade) and is fully present for Happy (not that I begrudge older Mick for taking a break). Can't Always Get What You Want takes off into the stratosphere, Rambler is epic, and Street Fighting Man gets downright psychedelic. The greatest.

Goat Heads Soup...How great a ear you have sir! A absolute lost art for us common folk that just dig the music and meanings of every song. 90 percent of people say they love a song and no clue of what it all about...The Meaning in the minds of those dudes in the studio at the time. When albums were about where the groups mindset were at that time. I love Zep and Page, many great songs of his, all about where they were at the times in there lives! Very hard to find people like you, that can have such a in depth, educated conversation about just a lick at a part in a song! I hope you do a few of Zep, especially Page, as he is one tough nut to crack...kept so much under wraps unlike Keith did. Great work. I would think you would of had to been a rock beat writer? Kevin.

Nice and cool response. thank you for getting this! I know there are many fans out there that are on the same wavelength and just understand where I am coming from. There are some folks that rather hate, judge, complain, disagree, or just not be in the same groove. I get about 2-3% negative, and they get an earful and can never comment again. Yes, I am a Page fan and recognize and marvel at his genius work. I do dissect his playing on my own. Growing up in the 70's he felt light years away from us, and could only live thru his music. Now there are some really good books out there on him that I would love to read up on. I am very back logged on book reading and in addition these doc I make take 100+ hours at least. On top of that, throw in other things I watch and do. Maybe in time I will, who knows.....a light bulb may go off, I just never know. No articles from me, I just like to compile info and present it!

Great finish! I really enjoyed all your hard work. I like the new mix of GHS, because my biggest complaint of the record was that it seemed like I was listening to it through the gauze the Stones have on their heads on the cover, and it still has the right sound, but I think it's easier to listen to now. My biggest complaint about the box is the price. My local store sold it to me for 120, no shipping and tax was included in the price. So the double GHS is like 35 bucks, so figure Brussels should be the same. It cost fifty bucks for a cardboard box! But this is the first time they've made Brussels even remotely available to a normal person on vinyl, and like you, I think that record is as good as it gets. I think it's great that they fix up the outtakes and finish them, because I used to sit around and listen to unfinished tracks all the time, but I just don't seem as interested anymore. I haven't felt like listening to So Divine in the bootleg form in ages, but I like the Exile extra disk, it's just too bad it wasn't on vinyl. Now I'm geeking out and rambling, but I just wanted to take a minute to say, "Nice job!"
@FlipSideCT
@FlipSideCT 4 года назад
Thank you Rick for sharing the great comment and support! I think you said it well...IT IS EASIER TO LISTEN TO.....that is a good comment! Agreed with the pricing. Look at their venue prices.....I have not seen them since 98 and I got in for free. I can not afford those. I look at it as, sell a few albums I do not really listen to to get something I want better. It will be interesting to see how BAffair alone moves along in the used market now. I stay limited with the outtakes and unfinished tracks, as they are about sound quality. I can only listen/tolerate soundboard. I understand the sitting around part....it was fun doing it together with other friends who were just as interested (years ago). I did not know Exile DID NOT come out in vinyl with the extra tracks. Love the geekiness, always! thanks again Steve

Hello Steve; High praise for the time & effort you spent on research & development of the project. The main focal point of the documentary is to open up a discussion & debate concerning Goat's Head Soup. Rambling is part of the feeling one has for their production. Call it a post documentary explanation. Fans of the group will purchase the LP regardless of cost. The down side being this material should have been released years ago. For Exile on Main Street the 4th mix was used. Maybe one day we will hear the others. I don't know how many mixes were done for Goat's Head Soup, & which ones were used. The video helps explain & tie up loose ends. Your analysis is as good a description as any. As far as live performances go we never know how many overdubs are done to make the recording presentable. The comparison between the bootlegs & the official releases on a performance level would be a good topic to discuss. Overall the video adds to the discussion. Well done as always. Very informative. Looking forward to more LP reviews. Tina & Pat!~

Hi and well said T&P....the REMIX is another breed. When I went to see the Stones Exhibitionism, one of the cool pieces in the exhibit was for a few songs, you were allowed to have hands on to mix a few songs yourself. 10 people mix = 10 different versions. The Dolls album was a mixing nightmare......as you said so many discussions. I would take an album of outtakes right now. thanks for all.

Hi Stephen....thank you! That is utter disappointment! I found this: the show was cancelled following concerns from councillors about the events of the Stones' infamous Altamont Free Concert in the US in 1969. Councillors in Pembroke also reportedly refused to hold the event at the town's historic castle fearing it would be a throwback to the days "when Cromwell invaded". However, the band returned to Wales in 1990 as part of the Urban Jungle tour at Cardiff Arms Park.

Well ! You did your job ! I already bought the alternate cover with the seven inch but Yiu talked uk the Brussels affair so much I just bought the deluxe off of Amazon for $107 for a grand total off $150 ! Great stuff Steve , can't wait to sit down with a nice beverage and blast my face with live Stones ! Some Girls loved it from the first time I heard it that was the album that did it for me as well as hot rocks and when tattoo You came out I devoured it ! Take care and hope the work week is good .

I would expect nothing less from you Bill. I want to hear it all the way over hear when you play it. Let me know how it goes! Cool you picked up on SGirls right away.... Got to remember, I heard Some Girls summer 1978, just graduated HS and when Disco was happening, and Miss You was sold with that. In Oct they played on SNL....Shattered/Respectable/ Beast that sent us to the moon, and the Bootleg Garden State 78 (out on Bail) came out (soundboard).....and I then went to Mars. talk soon, work is always grand! U too!

Thanks for your very detailed and insightful review I was lucky enough to have caught the band on this tour at the Apollo Glasgow (capacity 3500) September 1973 and they were at the top of their game. I will never forget it, I have seen them a few times since, 1976 again with Billy Preston Apollo Glasgow -1982 Edinburgh Playhouse-2003 SECC Glasgow-2006 Hampden Park Glasgow, all with Ronnie on guitar but for me you can't beat the Mick Taylor/sound/ era...... Having said that, if you do get the chance, go and see them don't miss out, as nobody can touch them, they are the real deal The last of the true originals

Peak and solid Stones 73' that is my go to time and sure many others. That is a nice notch on your belt. As you have seen them change thru the years....but still we are witnessing something that does not occur and is a one of kind in our lifetime and the futures. thanks for sharing and your support appreciated. cheers

Me too, in Glasgow! Yes, the band was absolutely the best ever. Keith slicking the outro on Tumbling Dice like he was nearly falling over but never never missing a beat. Superb show. I was at the front in '69 in Hyde Park and seen them several times since. the early 70's Stones are the highwater mark that can never be equalled.

Yepp! Was also there, if I remember the warm up band was Osibisa, we were 12 th row centre, they began with Honky Tonk, the theatre erupted, everyone on their feet, life memories, first wife, Glasgow crowd, everlasting Stones fan. Alex in Norway.

Me again- has it ever been established that Jimmy Page played on Through The Lonely Nights" ? Its a 30 year mystery. Lol legend has it Page was on vacation and conveniently joined the Stones on the recording. Thanx. So glad " Scarlett ( not a Stones song )was finaly released after 48 years.

The info came from Martin Elliots Rolling Stones Complete Recording Sessions... book 2012 ( and early edition). That book is indispensable!!! Either way I buy everything The Stones released except " Undercover" ( it's on my list :)

sire, me thanks. This kinda changed my life. Never saw the world in the same way. Maybe it was the opioid downer speech that convinced me that your research is honest somehow, in some dead stoned way (no offence, am an idiot), listened to your lecture really carefully years ago. It's amazing how your words got burned in my mind. Made this bright image, like I was there. Listened to them as early as 6 years old, truly enjoyed those first records as a kid. Maybe it sounds stupid and silly, I remember bringing huge 80s cassette tape radio to school in the first grade (6-7years). Took only one tape, this white amazing cassette that looked like no cassette I saw before or since. It was the original Deca with their early hits, ...sire, it took off with Route 66 and landed with Carol That, sire, was the time of my life, I think. I knew the tape by heart already, but seeing the faces of my schoolmates, girls and boys, smiling out of pure joy and sensing, I guess the overwhelming feeling of goosebumps. We rolled back the first track, I don't know, at least 20 times. All in shock, even me, dancing like mad. I tell you, l sire, 7 year olds, we would spontaneously grab a first partner, boy or a girl, and danced like in heaven, with pure hearts. Living behind the iron curtain, my deca cassette had to be smuggled in the socialistic hell through minefields and machine gun nests by my parents when they visited london. As kids we even knew english enough to ruffly understand what the lyrics were about. in my late 20s (now twice as old, am a musician) I used to say that the Beatles wrote better, deeper, whatnot songs, and of course defended my Stones (really was a stones all my life) by calming a solid one, that Stones are superior to Beatles for good drinking party. And now I agree, sire, honestly realized that the other day, a week ago, after 40 years I know again that mick and kieth wrote much more meaningful than Beatles, Zeppelin of Cream. ...Or Zappa. Now I truly know, Stones are the best music group of all times. Btw, an alcoholic. Carol was my bender trigger song, oh yeah. Something about the old, like, the original prime feeling of Berry vibe. People would start crying, too, when they heard me play it, cranking my amp, driving my dreaded speaker towers towards the 11. It would mean big, big trouble for any fellow men. Or myself even, beaten to pulp, broken down to peaces yet again, hospitalized, arrested. Missing teeth, soiled, pissed upon. Kicked in the balls by Police, traumatized by the revengeful, or something.

thank you for sharing, and being the true diehard Stones fan you are. I present my docs so folks can absorb and think and listen and view visually. A lot going on. Pretty amazing 6-7 years old and listening to them. Not many can say that. Their music is priceless and we are so fortunate to have witnessed this in our lifetime. There is no other band that can bring us what they did, a life long experience and treasure! thanks

cool, I think SFM being played so much, folks skim it over like JJF. There is a reason they do it for an encore. So edgy, raw and nasty! yea, bit punkish!
