Not to actually dwell on the incidents themselves, (that's a whole other discussion), I think that what is very difficult to listen to is the excusing away that the parents did during their interview, and also the sisters too. It is very painful to listen to comments that minimalize the acts that took place…. to honestly see that the fact it was over clothing seems to bring this crime to a lesser degree…or that it was only for a few seconds, and only happened a few times??? Or that it didn't happen in the bedroom again but instead on the couch. I am really troubled by these comments and I feel extremely uncomfortable with them. It is unfortunate that this has become a public circus for their family but that is part of the territory of being in the public eye (a decision that was made independently by the parents when they began this contract with TLC)…. however, in spite of the misfortune that this is now made public, they should have accepted the truth of the situation, owned up to that and NOT excuse or diminish the seriousness of it all. It is now hard to respect and see them as an example of wholesome living for they have come across as manipulative in their attempt to minimalize it they have definitely lost trust from the public. I personally will not watch any more of their shows for a truly uncomfortable with the twisted way they have turned the blame to everyone else but Josh. Shame on Josh, and I pity his little girl, I hope she is safe from him because really, a repented person does not shun the responsibility to everyone else. I think it was very brave of the girls to come out and say that they had dealt with what happened years ago. I think that what the media is doing to them now is in away worse than what happened to them at the time. No one had the right to share sealed documents with anyone. They never for a moment thought about what would happen to Josh's victims, they only care about profiting from one familie's terrible mistake. I am a survivor and ive met many victims you dont get abused and the next minit say oh yes ive forgiven him. Theres emotions you go through well before you get to the point of honest forgiving. Tracey Reed ...Jessa isn’t a nervous person. Jill is. And Jessa has a forceful, controlling personality. (Her dad once said that about her in an interview). It takes Jill longer to express herself and answer Megan’s questions. Jessa gets impatient and talks over her to cut her off. Megan does that too but that’s so she can get more questions out there, in the time allotted.
That therapy his parents got for him worked so well that he's just been busted for very indecent material of children. Only the way he changed was he learned was to hide it better.

It's quite plausible. Many times it flies under the radar or the families are in denial about it. I personally know several families in which things like this have happened. Some of them dealt with it, and, other times, no one believes the victims until it is taken too far.
TheVildee Yup I know a few friends who have been molested by an older brother and cousin, leading me to believe that this sort of thing is not as rare and isolated as we may think. In every situation the brother or cousin was forgiven as the victims grew older.

DepthofField when did they minimize josh's actions? They have said what josh was wrong to the extent of his family taking him to the police to confess. You do not do that if you though it was nothing, they clearly recognized it was a crime. They provided everyone with counseling. they seemed to have taken it very seriously. But what josh did wasn't the unforgivable unreedmable sin. Josh improperly touched his sister. he did not rape them or seriously molest them. That is what people don't understand. Even in the court of law there a various degrees. All sexual abuse is not on the same level. They can all have the same affect and are all bad,evil and serious. They are not minimizing and dismissing what he did however the are also not exaggerating and making what he did bigger than it was. They have all condemned his behavior including josh.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Duggars, but I do have to say, I agree with them here. Their testimonies and their case files should not have been so easily leaked because they are the victims. Yes, people should know who around them is a predator [Josh] but those media outlets really should've respected Jill & Jessa as well as the other victims. I've been through something similar as to what those girls went through, and I couldn't even imagine what it would be like to have to relive it all over again in front of the world.

Josh confessed, the parents took the proper action, council was received by all, the "victims" are just fine with it, now put it to rest. Take a moment to educate yourselves about the patriarchy movement, blanket training, the Pearls and Gothards homeschool curriculum, especially the part that regards sexual abuse and how to deal with it. Just for the record, i do not believe what Josh did was right, and I do not believe in the same ways that the family does. I don't understand what the big deal is. Have you never seen Beyond Scared Straight or a program that takes people that have committed a crime or problem talking to children or advising others not to go down the same path? That's what Josh was doing, yeah maybe he wasn't telling that he did it himself, but he was trying to keep people from doing it. Now, I don't believe everything that he was preaching, I haven't even listened to anything, but he shouldn't , or the family shouldn't be called hypocrites. Like Jill said, they have meet claimed to be a perfect family. The only reason this is being blown up like this is because they are in the public eye. I really never cared for Josh. There was always an arrogance about him. Karma is karma on his part. But personally they shouldn't cancel the show. It's the past it happened way b4 tlc came along they have forgiven him and moved on. My opinion if the show doesn't get canceled they should keep Josh out of the show.

How can these young women look at their brother as a brother after he molested them. I have three older brothers and I just could not get pass him touching me inappropriately. I respect my family's privacy enough that when my son did something with his camera phone that could have got him in big trouble, I didn't post about it on Facebook. My husband and I discussed it, my husband discussed it with the Youth Pastor and it was dealt with.
sw3737 The girls never justified what Josh did. The girls talked about what their father said...and it bears repeating. Forgiveness does not mean that trust comes....trust has to be regained...and the girls forgave and Josh had to re-earn trust.
sw3737 I'm not sure if you watched part 1 or 2, the girls said they didn't know that they were molested until they were told. I believe they said that they were asleep when the molesting happened. I feel like if one didn't see it happen, its more just imagining what happened. What's horrible, but reality, these girls are in the television business , and the world wants entertainment 24/7 whether it hurts the person. And as the girls say, people are making a big deal after 12 yrs after everything was dealt with. It sucks to be famous in this sense. When there is a family show , that kind of show where their daily routine is public, people feel that they're entitled to know this info. since the family is famous. Which is not true at all!

They're a TV family, by the choice of the parents. Perhaps there is further negligence on behalf of the parents that they knew that there was a paper trail and public knowledge that this was out there, & it was bound to come out again. I just feel bad for the kids, because though they are grown, they have to deal with it again.
You know people are saying that they would do anything to save their show but how in the hell would you feel if it happened in your family and you dealt with it in your own way and then 10 plus years in your face again!!!!
