This is a detail guide how I prune my eggplants. I have Japanese Eggplants Nagasaki, Ichiban, Shikou or typical black beauty Eggplants in other Italian types. This is to ensure that your eggplants have the best fruiting and also control pest.

Can you propagate the eggplant suckers like you do tomato suckers? By putting them in water to grow roots and then transplant? Thank you

Have you ever grown Senshu Kinukawa Mizu (eggplant) or Mitoyyo? The former tiy are supposed to be able to eat raw. I'm growing them this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll get a decent harvest. I got the seeds from Baker Creek.

Great video! I know it's generally a good idea to prune below the 1st flower set. Do you prune the suckers off above the 1st flower set? Or do you keep them on? Was curious!
@gardenonahillvin
@gardenonahillvin 2 года назад
I prune only about 8” off the ground. Sometimes I prune the flowers off within that 8” as they flower before they get tall

@@gardenonahillvin thanks for the advice! I'll try that, and leave the suckers above the 8" mark and see how they grow!

I just use a horticultural plastic or plastic shearing you can buy from your big box stores

So if those are suckers, does that mean I can make new plants with them, like tomatoes?
@gardenonahillvin
@gardenonahillvin 3 года назад
I do not know if that can work. I will have to try. I think it will as tomato stems typically will set root when it touches ground

@@gardenonahillvin after watching your video I actually pruned and put them in water. I will try to keep you posted.
