So fun fact about the song Daredevil: The whole game was completed except for a song on the second to last mission's boss fight. They delayed the release of the game by about 3 months so Keiki Kobayashi could compose it. The story goes that the game's producer called Kobayashi and told him the game needed "The best song you've ever made" and he responded with "I understand what you mean." I also just wanna offer context for the game's ludonarrative use of Daredevil: the song plays in a fight with a huge superweapon called the Arsenal Bird (basically a giant mobile drone base) and the drones that have been fighting the war have essentially turned on humanity. All the countries that have aerial combat forces have banded together to stop fighting each other and end a war that could eventually escalate to lasting forever. The Arsenal bird has a giant shield that prevents anything from reaching it, but over the course of the mission you hear someone on the radio take down its power source..... all while your wingman is screaming at the Arsenal Bird's shield: "Away with you! Just go away! BEGONE!" that's when it happens.... the shield flickers once, then it dies out... and the drop at 13:58 happens in the soundtrack. Your team is shocked and Count, your wingman, says "It's not magic, it's just a scam! Get in there Trigger!" To me Daredevil is easily one of the best songs in recent gaming because of what it represents in the story. It takes a long time to build up, but once the song hits it really turns into something beautiful, I can't recall where I read it but someone once read into it as the synths representing the threat of overly progressed technology created by mankind's own hubris. That we'll always push advancements in tech to their limits mostly for the sake of just being able to do it. But if we can learn to appreciate the world as it is right now, that maybe we don't always need fight each other, and band together as humans working together towards peace then we can overcome nearly anything. To me the vocals represent the human will fighting for survival and doing just that, banding together regardless of whatever typically divides us. Sorry if this was a bit long, I'm just a huge nerd for Ace Combat's storytelling and themes.
The best thing about AC soundtracks is how much storytelling there is within them! For instance Admiral Andersen has a lot of influence from Trigger's part of the story and a lot of influence from the 'Drag Racer' part of the story with Avril because this cutscene is kind of a big moment for both of them - Avril has put everything she can into this plane that's about to take off, the culmination of her journey that started at the beginning of the game, and Trigger is about to take off in it for the last flight of the war, it's really cool to see how these characters came together along with their respective themes!
Ace Combat 7's soundtrack pulls an amazing trick where it has an obvious Top Banger Track, but it also has like 5 or 6 other Secret Top Banger Tracks. I could not tell you my singular favorite track from this soundtrack, because so many are tied for that spot and which one is top depends entirely on my mood at the time.
I just realized that the constant interleaving of melodies and counter-melodies in Lighthouse is symbolic of both sides of the conflict joining forces to fight their common foe.
I've always parsed the time signature of Tango Line (the source track for Gator Panic) as alternating measures of 6/8 and 7/8. The arrangement for Tango Line is a lot less busy than Gator Panic, so the time signature is a bit easier to parse in that one.
Just a heads up that in the upcoming reactions list, $4.98 that should have been attributed to "Inscryption" has instead been attributed to a typo "Insryption" farther down the list.
I'm actually curious, what if one of the soundtracks doesn't blow your mind? Or is such a thing highly unlikely? You don't only look at it from whether you like it or not anyway, so I guess the craftsmanship can always be appreciated.
Hey Dan if you love rock and energetic tracks you've got to check out the 3D era sonic game soundtracks. Even if some of the games don't have a good reputation the soundtracks NEVER miss. It's not even just rock! Compare Fly In The Freedom (Rouge's theme) or Lazy Days (Big's theme) to something like Open Your Heart, they're completely different but all absolute bangers
My friend, you should totally react to ace combat zero's ost. I may not have the money to donate, but I really recommend you do stick to what we're saying. It even has flamenco which is right up your alleyway as a guitar teacher.
you GOTTA do the Machinarium soundtrack. I've heard the entirety of the Hollow Knight and Undertale soundtracks and Machinarium still is my favorite for having the most incredible production, especially for the year it came out (2008)
1:11:51 I love how Dan reacted to what I said in the live chat, I said yes because there was a accidental poll that showed up before the "listen to the VR soundtracks" poll. It just said Yes and No, no title whatsoever.
I hope at some point you try the DLC's of Ace Combat 7, saying they are wild is an understatement, mimic will make you go cross eyed, everyone vying for attention... but will wait their turn but wont let you forget them
1:33:14 I've been playing the AC series since way back with Air Combat but never got the big deal about Blockade, but the Sentry's Brunt remix is absolute 🔥. It is hilarious to me though that when people think about video game music it's RPGs 99% of the time, meanwhile one of the most consistently excellent series throughout the years has been an arcadey flight sim. Flying under the radar, so to speak.
@@thecrowbarofirony3703 Sometimes it gets bugged and stops updating. I mean on-screen chat like twitch does. Maybe it's too distracting for some, but I like it.
Right, so I think I have something that you would in fact like, now, actually, there is a few topics to talk about, well actually just two. So Have you ever thought of listening to FnF? FnF or Friday Night Funkin is a rhythm game that has many mods, the music is pretty good and the mods are awesome, and that is where we have it, another rhythm game known as Parappa the rapper, a really really old rhythm game, the songs are good but you would have to watch the game to get the story, just like a game inspired by it called Scratchin Melodii a game that is still in development, and it has a demo with good songs. But back to FnF, like I said, there are many mods but my favorite is Indie Cross, a mod abut the main character of FnF going into Indie games and rap battles some of the characters. The mod itself feels like a different game in general, with mechanics and voice acting and cutscenes(some actually happen in the song, and some details, but the first week end cutscene is really cool, and the opening cutscene, the second week cutscene, and so on.) and of course a really big soundtrack some songs use the sounds from the games, but to get the story, you should watch the mod itself, cause it feels like a movie, but if you don't that is fine with me. I can tell you what's happening, but it would be spoilers,(it's an hour long what would you expect.) Here is some lore so as I said the main character of FnF who is Boyfriend yes that is his name, is being transported to different worlds or Indie games, the first world being from a game that could make you rage, but at the same time has a show on Netflix, and looks like an cartoon from the early days, then to the second game, falling underground in a place where monsters were sealed by humans, and has a different ending, and the third week, that happens to be from a horror game, in an old studio... Well the third week is pretty cool.(Fun fact: DAgames voice acted the characters in the first week, and he also made a song called "Freaky Machine" That song may be familiar if you watched some of his songs. Also, Nightmares... Also, I highly recommend watching the cutscenes like I said for the other games, the cutscenes tell the story.
28:17 shouldn’t be part of the ost. It should be part of the oSH1TI’MSCARED. Also, discovering that nightmare fuel right before I went to bed at midnight one night was probably one of the stupidest moves I’ve ever made…
Love the work and thanks a lot for all the streams. Not asking for a review, but if you dig the ace combat vibe i'd advice to take a listen to the ace combat 4 soundtrack. Biased by nostalgia but this one is rich and varied, and comona is comona. While re-listening to the ace combat 7 ost, I feel like the main theme/motif is a bit too much predominant and I like the way ac4 handles it: Northern eye, lifeline, deep strike, tango line, safe return, all of those have silently shaped my life as a musician and feel unique. Megalith is the opulent piece you're (maybe) looking for. Keep up the good work !
Pls react to the evergrace soundtracks, I think there's a lot of weird cool stuff to listen to, although it's not a super easy listen but it's great trust me jsjdjsjdh
