Please remember to add a ribbon or a string of some sort to the light so the kid can turn it on and off themself! The style of bedroom suggests your friend is planning on fostering younger children, and they should be able to choose to turn the light on or off themself :)
Depending on the age of the child(ren) and the specific fostering rules the string may have to fit certain criteria, since there's the potential for hazards (strangulation, choking, etc). Just something to keep in mind for those who are fostering - there are rules/regulations for *everything*
You can get 36" extension chains (beaded with connectors that match the brass chain here) with all sorts of pulls-- animals, planes, or my favorite-- a mini lightbulb XD They can be cut to length with ordinary scissors.
I would add something to the first for those kids too, like a curtain. As a former foster youth, that little thing can make the difference between a safe hidden space or somewhere you are easily cornered. Though every child is going to be different, I'm just glad they will have such a nice home to be a part of even if for a moment.
One of my besties since childhood was in and out of foster care and I showed this to her. She thought it was amazing but said that it could probably due with being toned down a little so the kid can add their own vibes to it if they want. Like instead of forcing the vibrant blue on them, have a few options for a tapestry which can be hung across it, some variations of throw pillows, and a night light. Those things make a huge difference between "the room I'm supposed to sleep in every night" and "MY bedroom"
This nook is perfect. When I was being abused as a child, I lived in my closet for awhile because it felt like a safe hideaway for me. I think that many foster kids may find that in this space.
This is absolutely adorable! One thing I would recommend is more pillows/comfy things. Giant squishmallows or stuffed animals work great (I'm laying on one right now). As a teenager (younger teenager) who has panic attacks+a ton of anxiety it really helps to just be in a corner or somewhere comfy and just relax. This is a really cute idea but it would be so uncomfortable to sit in there without any pillow or anything other than the mat
As a renter, you can use a beautiful fabric as kind of wallpaper. I use push pins for light fabric and a staple gun to hold up heavier fabrics. It personalizes your home space without big damage. I've got a BEAUTIFUL french damask tablecloth that was never used because it was for a large dinner table. It's a rich cranberry and red color!
Ours is a clause in the lease so I feel like I can’t paint for sure if I want my deposit back. But we are moving again soon so hopefully there we can paint if we want to. I did use bulletin board paper once on the walls and it was a nice touch so I love the fabric idea!
What a blessing of a friend you are to makeover this space! Those kiddos are going to feel so cozy and loved in such a special space! It will bless them!
@@LoreCatan but if the landlord does an inspection they could demand she put it back before then. It's kinda expensive to paint something that could essentially get veto'd at any time. We mounted a TV in our rental, I asked the agency first and they thankfully had a designated professional who was overpriced but at least we got it done rather than just saying no.
I didn’t realize you couldn’t paint your walls in rented apartments in some places 😳 is that a US thing? We also don’t have any kind of regular inspection where I live. You just paint the walls white when you leave, usually, but some people don’t even do that. It depends on what you and the next tenant agree on in many cases. The landlord isn’t overly involved in painting issues.
I would love to be Amy’s foster kid 😂 what a great area you’ve helped her make this for some very special kids. I think they will love it and feel very welcomed.
This is a brilliant use for a closet! I have recently been thinking that maybe it would be better if I instead store all of the clothes I’d usually hang up in my wardrobe, in drawers, like the rest of my clothes. Having a space like that would be really beneficial to me.
Amazon has a adapter that you screw in the socket an it comes with a light switch you stick on the wall would be great for the child to be able to flip on light themself
