Hey Goeffrey! Thanks man! It was long way but the sound in particular makes up for everything! I will go further and this will not be the last V8 video ;-)
Well it ran. What's with the rotary valves? I was theorizing over rotary valves but, I think I abandoned it for solenoid valves, but found Bugatti already uses them.
SOOO CLEAN!!!❤ Amazing goosebumps Daniel, congratulations for your achievement and thank you for be so inspiring for all of us enjoying your video😊 thanks 🙏
@@danielhunziker3577 I have a question regarding the gears. Are you planning to leave them in the on air without lubrication? Or do you have in mind to build a case around in order to keep the greased or oiled? Thank you
Danke Chris!
Surprisingly, adjusting the carburettors was no big deal at all. The synchronised turning was easy to adjust, as each turning arm on the carburettor is adjustable with a grub screw. Insert a dowel pin into each carburettor roller as a stop, tighten, attach the pull plate and you have clean synchronisation. Carburettors all set to the basic setting and then adjusted as for the 1 cylinder defined. After that it ran like in the video.
Hi Charles 👋 There is no active lubrication in the entire engine. Everything is passively lubricated. This includes the gears that drive the rotary valves. These have just some grease on them (Molykote with molybdenum sulfide). If you want to translet this into a real motor, you would of course have to actively lubricate everything and make a closed drive box for the gears. But this is just a model engine, which is designed to be as simple as possible 😃
Hi Jorge! For 3D printed metal parts in SLM, I have a local supplier in Switzerland (www.ecoparts.ch). I often use protolabs (www.protolabs.com) for 3D printed plastic parts in SLS. It's easy to order parts on their hompage and the price-quality ratio is very good.
Hi John! Yes, the V8 engine runs really well. There are still a few problems here and there that I need to solve. At the moment I'm not able to measure such a large engine. I have to adapt the test bench first. But we have here 8x mine 6.5ccm 1 cylinder engine (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TMYDdoHDgFs.html) So the power will valued be 4.5hp and the torque 1.8Nm. How do you like the sound?
Bravo !!!
Hi Nate! Well, it's ok for a short run without too much throttle pushes. Well suited for making a good looking prototype and too see how its fit. But it's definitely not a long-term solution for an exhaust. Because it melts away at 160°C. If you look closely at the end of my video, you'll see a puff of smoke at the end on the left. The alumide manifold has melted away after pushing so hard... I'm working on a more complex manifold, which will probably be made from TiAl6V4 using the SLM process. Best regards from Switzerland!
Wirklich extrem saubere Arbeit!
Hey! Danke für das positive Feedback! Meine Motivation bestand darin was anderes zu machen.
Hey man! Good question. In the video it's probably 15'000 - 16'000 rpm. But that wasn't full throttle. It will probably go over 20'000rpm just like the 1 cylinder test engine, which was installed here 1:1 8 times (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TMYDdoHDgFs.html). The sound is simply great from the V8! 😁
Hi James 😃 I'm just as curious like you to sse the measured performance. But I have to rebuild my dyno because the current flywheel mass has too little inertia. This V8 here is 8x 1:1 my test engine (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TMYDdoHDgFs.html). There are no differences. We can therefore assume that the power is 8 x 0.57hp = 4.56hp. The torque will be 8 x 0.23Nm = 1.84Nm. However, the long-term goal is to be able to measure performance at some point. Can you live with this answer at the moment?
@danielhunziker3577 - your power should be higher, between the slight gain in efficiency from 8 cylinders, and less rotating mass per cylinder, thanks to a shared crank. Hoping you'll at least break the 5hp mark 🍻
@@Latuya-y1n Timing is quiet nice and each cylinder individual ajustable. With this I'm able to rev it over 20'000rpm. It runs with a methanol/nitro/oil mixture.
Hallo Daniel.
