What a beautiful Pilot VP! Not sure but,I might try a Platinum Preppy O-ring(for your missing "gasket") as sold by Goulet (four per package). They are intended to render the Preppy more suitable for eye-droppering that pen; but,I have used the Preppy O-rings on other pens. Just roll them on as far as you can then reapply the barrel. That's the way I've done it. Good luck!
I remember hearing a story about a hat manufacturer (Tilley) , where one of the owners had their hat snatched off their head and eaten by an elephant (the hat owner was a zookeeper), and when the hat manufacturer found out about the story, they made that story part of their advertising as a testament to the durability of the hat (the hat came out okay in the end). You should tell pilot about the durability of their product!
It's a great feeling to make a fountain pen work again, that leads me to my next horror story. I don't know why i didn't rembered it last time, but here it is: about five years ago my mom gave me my father's Sheaffer fountain pen, that was from the 50's . Back then i was starting collecting and fixing fountain pens and found online repair manuals. After apliying heat i couldn't separate the body from the nib, so i left it in the table to do some other stuff. When i turned back, the section was warped 😭 and still is😢. The only thing that kepts me for feeling too bad about it is that when he was still alive i destroyed/damaged some of his tools and he was never mad at me because he was never attached to his belongings. At least it was a good lesson for future repairs.
I’m glad you got it fixed and it’s back in working order. I would reach out to pilot via email. I’m sure they’d be able to fix or replace any parts under its warranty.
Black Bad Mocassin is the blackest ink and I consider it a black Baystate Blue. The only ink I partial fill in my pen, and clean it right away on the same day after my writing is complete.
It is rather unbelievable that the nib wasn't damaged, sprung, or even slightly misaligned after bouncing around in a dryer for a full cycle. If it had been me it wouldn't even be recognizable as a pen any longer, I'm sure. You are lucky in the extreme. I recommend not cleaning your pens this way in the future. 😊
Always nice to be lucky. I have a had a Decimo for many years and many hard knocks and it still writes well. It is a well sorted out design and your story is just another example of that. Always nice to see things turn out well. Be safe and have a great week!
All is well in the Loganverse. So far I've mostly used my fountain pens at my desk, and so there exist few opportunities for tragedies to befall them. This is kind of a fun one; the pen has a harrowing story now.
