Monster of a job. Crappy previous foundations, huge blocks, dodgy hips, roasting hot weather. Who would be a brickie! But you two guys seem to make light of it all and get the job done, no matter what. Thank you for the editing and uploads Steve - I'm feeling for you with that hip. Onwards and upwards.
Top job. I've got visions of you both dressed up as ancient Greeks to do the square root calc. Just what would Pythagoras have made of the smart phone 🤳. Look forward to the next one.
Hi Chaps. It never ceases to amaze me how much ‘faff’ you encounter, yet you just absorb it and get on with the journey. I take my hat off to you both. Great to see Alex pretty much up to speed now with his solo brickwork, well done young man.
Another brilliant video boys, thanks for that I'm only glad my tine didn't have those monster blocks I know that at 77 I'll never have to use them. You seem to have caught up well done looking forward to the next. Best regards Ken
Love the way you guys work. Even drill the muck instead of the brick like me. I always learn something from You and the family love is humbling. Casio G 5610 is last watch you guys will ever need. Perfect.
Ooooo snapped headers.! Reminds me of a job I did years ago in slough for the council, footing were poured at the wrong level ( not by me I’d like to add 😊) so the only way was to put in snapped headers to get us to correct floor height. Clerk of works went ballistic.! Had to remove brickwork and concrete topped.!!! Bloody nightmare job.!!!
Hi from Nevada, I really enjoy watching your videos, can't always understand your accents 🤔 I have worked in my Pa's construction business for a number of years along with my two brothers and I see a how he like you have treated each other with respect, our projects are a tad larger than yours but same obstacles seem to arise , I smile at the amount of times you say "well time for a break" keep up the great content. By the way I think Alex should end the vlog with the quote "This is the way"
@@SteveAndAlexBuild so true. A real pain ATM. I found certain wall ties were not quite long enough even though stated as 275. Pre-finished Sill boards are now harder to find. Building inspector was helpful though and a bit more flexible than my past experience. I intended doing brick, 150mm full fill rock wool 32 and block. But found out from the inspector I would need additional 25mm insulation on the inside to meet the code. Ended up using 100mm celotex in the cavity. Not cheap
I did a extension on a relatively new build, when the existing foundation blocks were exposed, they were fractured. Why? I can't tell you, but, I've never been happy building a building on an airated moisture sapping block. We do foundations in concrete common bricks. Yes, I know you have to cavity fill etc etc. Those lightweight blocks will not stand the test of time. My bricklaying crystal ball has served me well for 36 years.
The wall starter which was fixed onto the render. The render should’ve been hacked off, so the wall starter would’ve been fixed fixed directly to the brickwork or block work, which is over behind the render for a structural fitting as the fixings will only go in a little bit if you keep the render on
It's all coming to plan, although I don't get the new regs just now, it's all just adding to cost. Somehow makes no sense. What am I missing? Great layout as always guys. Keep it going. Onwards & upwards as the saying goes. 🖖👍
Not even joking when i say, between you and steve and izzy the other proffessional bricklayer on yt, i reckon you 3 could build a house that would still be standing in 2000 years time, think about that .
@steveandalexbuild great video guys, really enjoying this build. Serious question (not a criticism) is there a reason that Alex bedded the trench blocks without full coverage? From what I can see the 2 lines or mortar would struggle to cover the entire 350mm block.🤔
We never put a full bed under trench . The beds need room to spread . They are Rock hard to get down with a full bed plus there are only beds where there are walls above 🧱👍🏽
i did wonder this too. more from a point of if regs are bigger blocks then should it be a tripple line layed in. again a question not criticism. only if you pulled one up you would know the percentage coverage. things like big tiles have funny things go on underneath. also do you wet the concrete down first. cheers
Thanks Steve and Alex, I've got a job this week gotta use these blocks glad for the info. Concerned about the weight as Alex mentioned. Take care great work as ever⚒🧱👏
Jobs are getting ridiculous cost wise nowadays but just get on with it while the work is about, we normally hack the render of so we can fix the wall starter to the bare Bwk 👍👍
@@SteveAndAlexBuild All good thanks mate👍, the van got written off beyond repair replaced it today actually with a little Ford Transit connect. The price of vans now are ridiculous but I got lucky with this one and saved myself around 4k, more details in a future Vid 👍.
I'm not a bricklayer and this confused me. Do you mean cut the bricks so they are only half the height so there is room to sink the door threshhold down to get a flush threshold? I'm struggling to get an answer on how to achieve flush thresholds
Grey video! Can I ask which brand that yellow handled rake thing (sorry don’t know the exact name!) at 0:40 is? I’ve been looking to buy one like that.
This is where the cretins did not think this new gap through and new regs for all, are ridiculous, 150mm cavity meets an old cavity with an undetermined gap.
@@martin2466 Research 1930 semi's and Victoria houses, small cavities! Solid brick walls have a U-value of around 2.1-3W/m² and adding 50mm of expanded polystyrene (EPS) will take the U-value down to 0.5W/m²k
@@SteveAndAlexBuild No way did the mortar spread out that much, you could see it squashing out an inch from the side. There would be hollows under the blocks and perps, bad practice indeed.
Watching the crane unload brought back memories of when a truck would arrive and tip it all out, leaving you to handball it all to your job 😂 having said that, all you needed to do was offer cash in the nearest pub,and you'd have labourers in an instant. 😂 ,👍🧱
