Thanks Robert, more people need to poke the egos of STEM people. I was a libertarian because of the whole "STEM is best" mentality we are sold. I only realized how little i knew once i started looking into the humanities

Yup. Am a STEM person, but I feel I have gained a better logical framework through my dabbling in the liberal arts. Science doesn't exist in a vacuum after all.

After watching the Dr. Phil, the Dr. Oz, and now this I'm just convienced that maybe Oprah should be in prison for her crimes against humanity??? And that hurts to say cause I like Oprah, I use to watch her when I was home sick from school.

I remember when taking anthro relgion learning about the psychic surgeon concept in general. We didn't focus on whether on it was real, but more used it as a concept to talk about religious trances, not in the sense of some spirit actually showing up but in the sense that it's an altered state of consciousness. Because at least the ones we were talking about had the unusual phenomenon of both psychic doctors and patients going into trances with very little preparation before hand which was considered unique for the practice. There was some different theories as to why that was the case. Also while we didn't focus on it being real our prof did straight up say any healing was placebo effect.
