This is part of our history right here... Enough of glorifying all the 80’s drug dealers and killers... Let’s start showcasing the real hip hop culture...
The first MC worked with Kool Herc, (obviously). His name is Coke LaRock. Coke’s job was to talk-up Herc at the parties to get the crowd hyped. Now, how did Coke LaRock come up with that name? Well, he said that he was dreaming about selling Cocaine in Mexico. Not knowing Spanish, he joked about what the Mexicans might call Cocaine in their language. So as a joke, he said it was “Coke LaRock.” Which brings us to the whole reason why Coke emceed for Herc in the first place. You see, Coke LaRock was a cocaine dealer. He found that as the M.C. for the parties, he could sell a lot of... you guessed it... COCAINE. The very first MC didn’t get on simply to rock the MIC. He got on the MIC to ROCK the party. And by rock the party, I mean, SELL COCAINE. So despite everyone’s rose-colored sentimental glass, HIP-HOP has its roots in hustling and selling dope. It was the purpose for the first New York MC; toasting the DJ to slang that good stuff. “Coke LaRock.” And now you know... the rest of the story. Do your history, folks. PEACE.

Fly Ty's "documentary" should be in the U.S. National Archives. He's dropping JEWELS on us. Trust this. I'm listening as a 53 yr old, in AWE! A lot of things I remember from this time, I just didn't know the inside of what happened but know I know. Go Ty.

Fly ty the cold chilling OG! Kraze I could watch these interviews all day every day shit is taking me back to when these dudes were my hip hop heroes as a kid I'm amazed at these stories
This is Hip hop history gold. More than worthy of Netflix. As a follower of the Juice Crew since 86. I'm like a pig in mud rollin in all this info, eating it up. Looking forward to Ty's book..

The Force M.D’s and New Edition, Two Of The Best In The 80’s, My Opinion. As Far As Record Companies, Once you Realize The Powers That Be By Logically Following The Money And Their Interest with You, Meaning Where Do You, as a Artist fit in Their Grand Scope Of What Their Trying to Pitch, Only Then you Start To Come To a Understanding Of “The Business”. Everyone has a Story, Yet If you Truly Stand On Your Truth, Music, And Your Creativity Then One or Ones Can Embark On Going INDEPENDENT. Good Looks, King 👑!! ✊🏿
Master Ace didn't mention this part lol.....He wanted the same advance that Kane and them got and when he didn't get it he pressed up on that record exec lol. Damn this is so dope to hear all this insider info. The record business is rough always was, best bet is to stay independent. The only thing that even remotely interests me in the game is distribution and even that's startin to get shady these days...
Fly Ty interview was so good. I want more. This has to be longer. He has to be allowed to just talk and elaborate on anything he chooses. This is Hip Hop history. This has to be well documented. Thank you for posting this video.

Loving the insight on the business. Coming up when I got into dj'ng and being around a few artist within the biz and learning. Opened my eyes to some things and people of ill intentions.

Morris Levy was the head of Roulette Records during the 60s and 70s...Fly Ty was RIGHT about Levy being a BIG industry gangster... Do the research on Morris Levy! Joe and Sylvia Robinson had Sugar Hill but before that they owned the ALL PLATINUM RECORDS GROUP (All Platinum, Stang, Turbo, Horoscope/Astroscope, Maple and other label imprints.)
3:23. ..he thought he was Joe Jackson 😂😂😂😂😂...Mehn..thank God for youtube!!! This is wisdom for living..too much deep knowledge was dropped in this interview!! Gotta Respect the Jews!! Mr Levy! Biz Markie was a legend too.
You don't have to try and sell this interview by mentioning DRUGS, GUNS, AND VIOLENCE. We are not all fascinated by the things that bring down our people and community. Ty's stories were more than enough for those who know who he is.
Like every all y’all, I love to hear stories but unlike some, I don’t jump on the wagon right aof. I don’t personally know any a these mugs so I can’t say thanks for the real the real. All tales have 3 sides and I don’t believe shit til it comes out my ass. Seems like a standup dude though. Interesting interview also. Peace
