There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
New episodes twice a week on iHeartRadio.

The sudden sensativity to scents and sudden changes to his attitude after the cycle accident reads as an undiagnosed TBI. After I had mine, I would often improperly recognize scents and had anger issues or fast mood swings, along with laughing/crying at odd or seemingly inappropriate stimulus.

Just got to that bit, and I absolutely agree. The sensitivity to smell in particular caught my attention

The fact that neither Caitlin nor Robert could think of the term "singing telegram " makes me feel very, very old

Robert's terrible at pronouncing things across the board, but somehow the pronunciation of the word schooner seems like the kind of thing he should know.

An addendum to the time at sea: the fate of the Apollo. It was eventually sold and was planned to be made into a floating restaurant at South Padre. This never happened because in the early 80s it had to be scrapped after being HIT BY A FUCKING TRAIN.

Giving Hitler credit for coming up with the Hitler Youth is a little silly. It was (and still is) quite common for European political parties/movements, regardless of ideology, to have a youth division. The Communists famously had the "Pioneers", which was kinda like Boy/Girl Scouts... but... communist. Hitler was just following the trend. Also... "Commodore" was a rank in the Navy equivalent to a brigadier general (aka "one star general") in the US Army/USMC/USAF. In the early 1980s it was renamed "Rear Admiral, Lower Half", and no longer technically exists. Since then it's become an unofficial title given to someone who commands a small force of ships but isn't an admiral, basically to designate who's the senior commander (because there may be more than one captain involved, but one of them has to be the one "in charge"). So it officially holds no weight anymore, but LRH was in the Navy when it did.

Commodore is the commander of a squadron or task force or several ships, Admiral commands a fleet made up of many of the former. It's like Colonel vs. General, more or less.

I wonder how much of his "past lives" crap was influenced by that guy who'd told him he had to be 86 years old to fit in all the bullshit he'd said that he'd done. It seems like he may have gone "ok, well it was in a past life, then."

Sergeant gets a D, because not being able to see someone's hand, even in a confrontation, does not warrant pointing a weapon. I'd give the responding officers a C, too. They were fairly textbook in their interaction with Kevin, but i feel if the other party hadnt been a cop he would have been in cuffs too. Too much "thin blue line." And I also agree Kevin gets a complete F.

Just like a drug dealer shouldn't take from their own supply, you should never read from your own books. Wisdom from the Excalibur experience.

L. Ronwell Hubbard: I listened to 3 yt vids of y'all and didn't hear any mention of several factoids I've heard about him... My sources, first of all, are questionable at best: Space, by James Michener, (which is admittedly fact-based fiction), & wikipedia (for corroboration of the aforementioned)... What I "know" about LHR that hasn't been addressed herein: Uno: LRH, in college, wrote fellow students dissertations for money (before realizing it would make them more money, which led to him seeking other sources of income, writing sci-fi, and eventually falling on, and taking action on the quote I DID hear in these Pcasts, "If you want to make a fortune, start a religion") Dos: LRH wooed, and dated the underage daughter of a US senator, then marrying her when she was of age, and divorcing her when she got too old (for another 18 yr old). Tricking the mother of this girl (the senator's wife: um.. Eleanor Roosevelt??) into sending him money for information re: aliens taking over the world gov'ts. Dos y medio: LRH had an expensive mailer that one could buy that detailed a plan the gov't kept secret of a plot by aliens to overtake the gov't (see above). Where he would grift family fortunes off gullible people.. I don't know if any of this is true, but it rings true. That is: it wouldn't surprise me

easy when anybody cites wikipedia for factual verification I wonder if they are medicated cause you know people are people and they go by their feelings not fact. Wiki can send you in the right direction but that is it unless you're medicated then...@@stella-vu8vh
