So this video picks up where video 4 left off..
In this video I forge to final shape with all the desired attributes.
This is the stage where all geometries are finalized so eye, sides, blade radius are set.
I have had a patreon account for months now. But, don't have a clue as to how it works.

This is what a true blacksmith does, doesn't rely on the belt grinder to shape metal. Well done!

Don't need no stinking grinder.. :) I do prefer to forge things to shape/size. Minimal grinding or even filing. Of course with todays belt grinders metal can be removed very quickly. thanks

Just WOW! To me it was obvious that you were bound and determined to get that blade edge perfect using nothing but your hammer. Several times I thought why doesn't she file it? Watching you work that blade edge to perfection using just the hammer was amazing. It looks perfect! Thanks for bringing us along. That was truely something to watch. As always great job Jen!

Thanks Jim, I know you have a few knives under your belt so know what it means to forge to thickness. One of the problems with doing this kind of work is " is forging to size or forging to finish" I had no extra metal so had to use it all. In the future I will do a "hand forged commercial sales" video for axes.. That will have some grinding in it. Thanks Jim.. Merry Christmas..

Truly a forged to finish ax ! You really showed your ability to put the metal where you want it with your hammer to achieve the shape you want in the end. Nobody can say it can't be done :) Really enjoyed this series of ax videos !!

Well at some point you might be able to add one.. More than likely not this one.. But, just getting going with the new school so potential is there for sure.

Hi Jennifer how goes everything? I made my first wrapped eye hatchet today. I made the eye too big and didn't have enough material to make the cutting edge how I wanted but the forge weld went well. I did the body out of a railroad spring clip and the cutting edge from 5160. I really want to be apart of a class of yours and make one of these bowtie felling axes.

@@lukelofgren4108 Things have been good, thanks for asking.. Little slow on shop progress but it's that time of year. Congrats on your success.. Those spring clips are pretty good material.. You maybe could have done it as a single weld instead of 2.. If they are the rectangular clips they are decent material for sure, the round ones are too.. the round ones that look like chain links.. You are welcome to come take a class for sure.. Hatchet, Axe, adz, Auger bits will all be part of the school lessons if there is enough demand. Shoot me over some photos on the blade site.. Can't wait to see it..

Beautiful form, no excess material. Could use as is with little finishing work?😊

Pretty close to done right from the forge.. Since I'm so picky it still had to have the scale removed, cleaned.. Someday I might be able to just forge to shape and harden/temper and let it be.. :) someday.

Absolutely beautiful work! You have a skill very few people have. Do you have a tree picked out to try out your new felling axe? We'd love to see it in action after you have it finished with handle and sharpened.

Not yet! I did take it out yesterday and 2 swings made quick work of 4" plus Ash tree.
