the strut towers, get a 3d scanner, scan the driver side one, make a cad model, mirror it, and have someone like dsport cnc you biller ones. Almost guarantee its cheaper than oem.
Seriously, just CNC your own aluminum strut tower. Scan the other side and go to a third party. The material costs of CNC milling for relatively small parts like this is $100/kg, roughly. For a 5hr job like this I'd be surprised if they'd charge you more than $1-2K.
maybe not so much, he can make a lot of content of the damaged 812, more than the clean title and probably at the end it would make him more profit and he would be able to know that he was able to repair a very badly crash damaged car
@@semaJnorbeL23 My thoughts exactly, this saga and issue has easily created a followable series for the future. His headache is our viewership. (Not complaining, I love his channel.) But definitely not the worst thing for him given his line of work.
Strad, make sure to look at the salvage yards in Dubai. I’ve already seen salvage 812s popping up after the recent floods. Chances are if you could find a strut tower there, it wouldn’t be destroyed. Because it’s an aluminum part, it shouldn’t rust, but you could still double check corrosion.
"it shouldn't rust" Well obviously it's not going to rust as it is aluminum like you said...... It will corrode however, and you know what salt water does to pourus cast aluminum? Rust is childs play, rust can be repaired easily, corroded cast aluminum on the other hand! 😢
@@commonsenseisdeadin2024 I said “shouldn’t” in the case that it isn’t pure aluminum. Even a small amount of alloying metal could lead to rust. But yes-you’re absolutely right. My point is that it’s worth looking into. It’s certainly a better idea than, say, trying to repair the existing strut lol.
@@Uplifted100 oh it’s going to be a nightmare….. just look at Tavarish and the P1! It doesn’t take much! Houston and the Bug is a good example too, except that wasn’t totally submerged.
James, I worked in aerospace for a lot of years. We used a piece of equipment that a company called Direct Dimensions Inc both sells as well as offers services to produce an exact digital copy. The digital copy can be turned into a CAD file to have a part produced from what everyone now calls "Billet" aluminum, steel or laser 3D printing. Before I'd use a cast part, I'd get a part produced from a solid block of aluminum.
Hey Strad, I’m an automotive engineer, that 30K pressure die cast aluminum part cannot cost more than 250 bucks (I used to work for a company that made those for Mercedes Benz and other brands). Don’t waste tens of thousands of dollars. Call a supplier in the US that specialized in engineered billet machined parts (DJ Precision Machine, Speed Factory Racing, or anyone that has their own billet products) and ask them to 3D scan, design an alternative strut tower solid component, and machine the part to dimension. No way that will be more than 30K and it will be more structurally rigid as well as better looking.
Dave being spotted is super cool. He's probably my favorite automotive based individual ever. His designs are timeless and he's an actual nice guy in real life.
Damn, I can't believe I've been watching this channel for 9 or 10 years. Im still not tired of it. Many channels have come and gone in my life, but this one remains along with Neeme and Brad.
Exotic Auto Recycling. They have a few of these listed (Front Frame Suspension Casting, is what the part is listed as) eBay for $2500. I don't know your exact model. And by the looks of my research the same part fit several different models which the dealer would never tell you that.
If worst comes to worst, and you can’t register the car because of the structural damage, put the new kit on it and make it pure, no bs track car. Part out the seats and everything else that would add weight, get the money, get a rollbar and all other essentials. I do miss the 430 challenge, that car was something else.
@@hungryalien that’s a good thing, it’s an untapped niche for him. Plus, the car in itself already has such an amazing backstory! If he manages to pull the repairs off himself and not through them, Ferrari will be on him with a Cease and Desist bc that’s just how they are. So if he just says screw it, imo, he’d have something hella unique.
@@DudeItsJosh sounds like fun. although he did had several "race cars" before but the only speeding he really did was the top speed solo runs with bugatti and lambo. its not really in his blood.
Try reaching out to Mat Armstrong in the UK to see if you could get that strut tower from the UK, Since over there in the UK getting frame parts isn't as big of a head ache.
A good idea is to "borrow the piece" for further examination and buy/use a 3d scanner to scan the item. You can then use websites like PCBway or something else to 3d print or make from titanium.
I was going to comment this as well. Getting the dimensions shouldn’t be difficult considering he has the damaged passenger side part as well as the drivers side for reference. And there are tools that can be used to determine the exact composition of the material if needed. I don’t even think it would cost him $1,000 to have done.
It would be actually funny to see this video gets 240k likes lmao. Hopefully the strut tower get's sorted out. Maybe call mat armstrong he's got his connections
Bro I started watching you when you got fired from your accounting job and I took a break for a bit and just decided to check out this entire episode. Glad I did! So cool to see how well you are doing 💪🏾🔥
Honestly that's maybe the best idea I've seen outside of the people commenting about 3d scanning parts and having them made instead of going through Ferrari. They would be sick af in the 002
You could do a tube frame chassis tied into a full cage, that way there's a whole new, stronger structure supporting the struts and protecting the driver. Just good luck passing inspection with that. Ontop of using that structure to mount the suspension, you could also modify suspension geometry like using cantilevers and longer control arms.
So basically Mato.psd aka me was right if you want the car done you need to pay fat money to grt it fixed bcs you cannot do it all yourself ❤ all peace and love
That's why I have such distain for supercar brands. There's absolutely no reason for it to be that expensive. They only charge that much because they can.
The dually actually is widebodied. Most times when you run 22.5s or larger you get widebody rear fenders. I love that truck. I used to have a bagged and bodied version that was stolen
Ferrari is probably about the most hated, yet loved brand of the car scene. Hated for their price gouging, pretentious attitude towards new buyers, and several other things, but those are the most prominent. Loved, because their simply one of the most Iconic brands known, and they have a tendency to produce some epic beasts of machinery.
They don’t want their billions of dollars in R&D being messed with by shit parts out together on wrecked cars, by ppl that have no idea what they’re doing. Ferrari is protecting their name, history and products.
Did this dude not start by driving to McDonald in a gocart? He have come pretty far from driving a gocart and dreaming to own A supercar....... Have not hollywood asked to make a movie about his yet? lol
I'm happy to see that at least the car is slowly getting better and closer to being done , just try to be patient with it and possibly you will find a solution to it , I'm super pumped to see your dad's truck and maybe....if you part out the Ferrari then that brilliant exhaust v12 would sound AMAZING in yours dad's truck , Lots of love brother STRAD 🖤🔥🤝!!!!!!!!
Just 3D scan the crappy over priced ferrari cast strut tower conponent ..and CNC machine a new better improved stradman stut tower made from billet highstrength steel...
As a salvage rebuilder i can tell u most of the shops first check on the availability of parts then start buying the cars in bulk. For most manufacturer they will sell you anything and everything and for high production numbered cars most of that stuff can be bought third party as well not to mention the high number of used parts on the market. Nobody is out there gluing dashboards for normal cars or hand repairing strut towers
@@PuffOfSmoke oh 100% also the effort, money, and time spent on this one car would be equal to rebuilding 20-30 normal cars. And when u realize there is no profit to be made it would make sense to stay miles away. Even as a youtuber i would have found experts to look at photos before purchasing and have an affordable way to source only then do u touch a project like this. And yes someone with 5-10 years of auction buying experience would have easily told him the level frame damage to expect through photos
@@draggy6544 I'm no expert but the moment he bought it a few videos before, I somehow felt it would hurt his bank account. But at the same time, I'm thinking if he films it building the whole thing, would his RU-vid review be able to recoup all his Ferrari expenses. I guess you answer it. Thanks!
@@PuffOfSmoke the problem with that is the youtube shouldnt have to cover loses if he could be doing a break even type of rebuild the youtube revenue can be pure profit. But yeah u can see how one or two cars like this can bankrupt a small to medium sized shop. He also spent 40k on a body kit and probably 60k if u include the wide tires/wheels and building costs associated with the wide body. I understand that he was trying to make it so the car could be finished and get a widebody kit smoothly but he took a big financial risk. Him saying he doesnt have 70k cash is a scary situation.
Ask Matt Armstrong or tavius if they would like to have a go to help you.Because they have been doing some great stuff. And it would be cheap for you and fun and you will get lots of likes
why not make an 812 superfast gt3 car, get a tubular chassis made, install all of the running gear etc, and you would save on interior parts as you could just get some bucket seats and you could still use the body kit that you brought
TheStradman Great Video I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time getting parts for your 812 Superfast rebuild and I hope everything works out in the long run
I knew this was a terrible idea the moment the video went live where u told us u got it to begin with. I appreciate you trying to give us different content man though. Better luck in your next endeavors and see you in the next one !
THIS IS INSANE!!! I think bro should go to Lamborghini and fix it there, he'll ruin entire Ferrari advertising department. They'll regret they didn't donate this part for free for the project!
Like your videos but you often prove money doesn’t buy experience. Just sell it and take your hit. Try something else and do some dang research before hand.
Of course it doesn’t but I have experience in other things that would blow people outta the water. I’m out here learning something new….cant be the best at everything
4:47 you shouldn’t change anything in your dads truck. If I could’ve had my 2nd dad’s truck still I would cherish it and build it back to originality engine (heart of the beast) and interior. Don’t ever change your dad’s truck Strad seriously man cherish it never let go.
