Director’s Statement:
Party Drifters is very much in the same vein of an Éric Rohmer film as I pay tribute as well as utilise the aesthetic he introduced post the French new wave. The reason I cited Rohmer as a key influence is because he is a deeply subtle filmmaker in his approach; he forms a naturalistic aesthetic that enhances the onscreen drama as the conflicts, obstacles and emotions feel real and nuanced. His style and methodology to filmmaking almost seems minimalistic as he doesn’t focus on plot or prey upon melodrama; rather he captures life, by unconventionally focusing on the mundanities of life and telling stories through that. From characters walking and observing their environment to participating in conversation with another character.
