Join us at Reefstock Denver as we meet up with Carlos from CoralVue to discuss the PARwise PAR Monitor from ITC Reefculture. We'll discuss how this unique light meter has the ability to measure spectrum, can be used underwater and in air, and gives you all of the relevant lighting measurements required to make informed decisions.

Nice, the fact I can plug it directly into a consumer electronic is a big win

That's awesome. I was on the fence about getting a par meter, and this just sold me.

Bit like a Seneye Reef. Be good to see a side by side comparison.

We need a cheap affordable par meter for all reefers. Such an important vital tool to have yet so unavailable because of how expensive it is. This device should’ve been 199. 300 is crazy.

We hear you! And we kind of have you covered!.. If you want a super basic PAR meter for under $200- you can do that with a Seneye Reef - but you're limited to using it on a computer and the technology has moved on quite a bit since we launched it over 10 years ago. Getting good spectral data and higher quality resolution and information like you get with PARwise.. you'll traditionally need to spend at least $1000 for a device that can't go under water! PARwise is like having a high quality PAR meter, Spectrometer and DLI measuring tool all in one.

@@itcreefculture if it costs more then 50% of the next best thing why would anyone pay 200 instead of 350 for a better product?

ITC hasn't published anything regarding wavelength accuracy across the visible spectrum, or for PAR accuracy.

I did not see it submerged in the video, can we put it under water?

Yes. It was made to be submerged.

I had the same question. Now it’s on my to-buy list! Thanks! Would love to see another review when you get one @SaltwaterAquarium.

Absolutely! There are two calibrations - 'In Air' mode and 'Under Water' - so if you want to measure your corals and then mangroves and orchids - perfect!

How long is the cord? A 42" deep 450 gallon tank is going to be a little challenging to hold your laptop at the surface of the water while holding the sensor all while not blocking light. Why wouldn't they make the cable 16', the max length of USB 2.0? I may buy one and add an extension cable with connectors heatshrinked.

CoralVue was the worst experience for me. They ran me around through emails, about a faulty ato. I was excited to see this until I saw Carlos. I will pass.
@snorkelbob1
@snorkelbob1 7 месяцев назад
@snorkelbob1 The PAR readings are off by 25%. The spectrometer function can't find two wavelengths 50 nanometers apart. Aside from pretty colors, it's really useless to a hobbyist. ITC will never mention its accuracy. It's a $300 toy. It's too bad people will post any video without researching the items they're publicly endorsing.

Lol this has been around for a while and is cheaper to buy from non-coralvue sources with customer support. Nothing like a device that does not work without being physically tethered to another expensive electronic device to work, just what you want when working with saltwater...

Spectrum is key
@hurricaneaquatics
@hurricaneaquatics Год назад
I disagree completely. You can have a perfect spectrum and have 50 par. If you don't par matters, then put your LEDs on 20% across the channels and let us know how your Acropora are doing in a month 😁 Spectrum is very important, but so is PAR. PAR is basically how much you can get away with without providing too much to make the corals retract or expose their zooxanthellae.

 @Hurricane Aquatics PAR is an instant measure. Do you keep the light on 24/7? No. the light integral is the real aspect that nobody considers. The amount of light energy over time! Dli consider the period of 24 hours. Parwise does it!! ❤
@hurricaneaquatics
@hurricaneaquatics Год назад
@@ziqful I guess English isn't your first language and I can't understand what your saying. Par is an instant measurement? Umm ok, I beevr said you had to put a postage stamp on PAR and wait for it to arrive.... I'm well aware of how to measure DLI.
@itcreefculture
@itcreefculture Год назад
We agree Steve. That's why we made PARwise as a tool to deliver all of the information we need - not just a bit of it. PAR is just one part of a 3 major lighting parameters we need to consider for lighting success. 1. Peak PAR - It's a spot measurement you don't want to burn corals 2. Spectrum - making sure the light we're giving can actually be used by the coral and isnt wasted energy (setting the right colours), 3. Daily Light Integral - how much light energy we deliver over 24 hours. PARwise does all 3 - as well as a some other commonly used lighting terms. We aim to build on the software in the future too delivering more features :).
