I met Jerry at a local car show a few months ago here in Chattanooga. He was so nice. I got his autograph and hug. I was so thrilled.

Jerry Mathers WAS NOT the kid in "I Love Lucy". I hate when these videos take rumors as fact. Jerry Mathers himself said that he was never on Lucy, it was a kid who looked similar. Do better.

Michael Mayer, was the little boy in the "I Love Lucy" episode this video refers to and not Jerry Mathers.

I once heard that Jerry Mathers mother knew Hugh Beaumont as an acquaintance and knew he was looking for work. She mentioned that her son just got hired for a show and that they were looking for actors to play the father. Legend has it that she tipped him off to audition for the part.

Jerry Mathers cleared up the legend of whether he appeared on I Love Lucy a few years ago. He explained that although the little boy looked like him, he wrote on Facebook in 2019 that the boy was not him, there was only a resemblance. Hope this helps.

So…why was Theodore called Beaver. And….how did the name of the show become “Leave it to Beaver.” Never explained in this clip.

The show was set in Cleveland, Ohio. They went to the high school in Mayfield, Ohio. Ward confronted the Beaver about a phone call from Cleveland to Los Angeles because he made a phone call to Don Drysdale.

Jerry Mathers was a member of the California Air National Guard ( US Air Force Reserve) 1966-1969. Tom Selleck also joined as member of the California Army National Guard (US Army Reserves) 1967-1973. On the face of it, there is nothing wrong with that. Both of these men served our country - they are to be honored for that, as they should be. At anytime, these units could have been called to active duty and deployed. One or two Air Guard units were called up during the war in Vietnam. Of those who chose to ‘run across the border’ into Canada to avoid the draft, many have since expressed regret.

I remember the false rumor that Jerry Mathers was killed in Viet Nam. Interesting to learn he only joined the Army Reserves. Almost everyone I knew did the same to avoid the draft and serving in Viet Nam.

Jerry was on Ozzie and Harriet. Hugh Beaumont only acted to support his ministry. On his way to Hollywood he drove with his mother in law. The had an a accident and she died.

11:05 NOT Hugh Beaumont, this is actor Lloyd Nolan. 11:56 Barbara Billingsley and Casey Adams(he later changed his acting name to Max Showalter which is his actual given name!) He appeared in many movies TV shows in the 1950s and 60s. About location of the Cleaver family...They lived in Mayfield, and in 1 episode Ward mentions that as a youngster he was known as the best kite maker in Shaker Heights. Fact: Mayfield and Shaker Heights are both very near eastern suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. Mayfield didn't really surprise me, but when Ward said Shaker Heights, I flipped!
