Dude your suggestion of getting the Boson practice test put me over and got me a pass. I failed on the first try with a 802. Went back to the drawing board and found this video. Coughed up 85$ for Boson and boom! Passed with a 865. Thanks bro. Keep up the good work

@Boneshanks
@Boneshanks 3 года назад
OSPF know configurations commands and show commands. Know how areas are created, networks, wildcards. How DR and BDR is chosen as well as IDs. EIGRP is on there, know metrics and distances. No labs, but be able to read and understand outputs from the show commands. Some subnetting, even IPv6. HSRP command, CDP and LLDP, root bridge and how root and alternate interfaces are chosen. Some link aggregation questions. Look at Jeremys IT Lab on here, he explains stuff very well and he doesn’t talk fast like CBT nuggets dude. He doesn’t go off topic either. ALSO find another book to reinforce topics. I found that Netacad didn’t explain stuff well, but I used another source to reinforce and get a different explanation that helped me learn the topic. Good luck. I am either going after DevNet or CyberOps next. Got a 737 on CyberOps, needed 825. And i know what i screwed up on, forensics.

Congrats dude. I have my exam booked this Monday and am in a similar position actively working in networking and telecommunications. Figured I should actually read through the CCNA 200-301 material even though I studied for the old CCNA Routing & Switching exam 10 years ago. Glad I did because of all of the newer stuff like SDA/SDN, network automation, wireless, etc. Hearing you mentioned the necessity to study that material and that there is plenty of questions based on that reinforces my decision to revisit it from scratch and makes me happy.

@R Coffee I switched careers as well. I’m glad he mentioned “imposter syndrome” it’s something that a lot of people deal with but don’t talk about. I had some IT certs for quite a few years but finally got an IT job. I felt like I had no idea what I was doing and someone would come in and say “you aren’t as good as we were expecting, we are gonna let you go” That’s the basics of imposter syndrome. Hopefully that is laid out a little better. I feel a lot better now and feel like I’m hitting a stride.

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your tips. I had just signed up with Boson last night. Also using the NetworkChuck & David Bombal This is IT CCNA vids. Curious on your thoughts about the JNCIA cert. I see it as a sort of stepping stone toward the CCNA. Yes its Juniper, not Cisco, but seems like a worthy stop along the way.
@b.m.robertson5959
@b.m.robertson5959 4 года назад
You think??? I don't know (abt to take CCNA) but I'd venture to say its Cisco then Juniper...why? Only b/c you don't really have very good material to study for the JNCIA compared to the CCNA (PLEASSSSE correct me if I'm wrong, I'll buy it on the spot lol!). If you have passed the CCNA from what I hear, you get networking and JNCIA is just going to test you on Juniper specific (which people say is relatively easy, almost like if you are a chef ,learning a new dish/style isn't really hard b/c you know the basics) But I want both....

Congrats man! I've recently got my A+ cert and currently studying Network + material on Udemy and Professor Messor. My plan is to not actually take the Net+ exam, just obtain the knowledge as a foundation and put the money I've saved towards CCNA study material and/or equipment. I appreciate you sharing your CCNA study methods. I was planning on getting CBT Nuggets, CCNA Book, practice exams. But I was wondering what type of labs I should plan for? Some swear that CCNA/Network newbies should lab with physical equipment, others say Packet tracer, others GNS3. I think a small physical lab would be beneficial for me. However, I don't want to spend +$1000 dollars on equipment and I would prefer that it not interfere with my existing home network (if possible). Could I just run a cable from my home router to the lab equipt and have it on a different subnet or something? Again congratulations on the exam and we appreciate your content.

I have 2 routers and 1 switch. And I still use Packet Tracer, its enough believe me.
@TheBuffNerd7539
@TheBuffNerd7539 4 года назад
You don’t necessarily have to run a cable from your home network to your lab equipment. Once you get comfortable with routing and switching, what you could do is on the router created a loopback interface on your router to simulate a connection beyond your network configured on your switches. Also you probably can get a pretty nice lab spending only $500, i’m sure online there is some very low price network equipment that should be more than enough to set up a good lab environment. One thing that I did to avoid spending a large amount of money (if you have an IT Job) is reach out to my IT employer to see if they had some network equipment that they were no longer using that I could take home. That’s how I got a lot of my equipment.
@TheBuffNerd7539
@TheBuffNerd7539 4 года назад
Also GNS3 is not necessary unless your going for a CCNP cert. packet tracer should be more than enough.

@@TheBuffNerd7539 I watched a YT video from Jeremy Cioara (CBTnuggets) about setting up a home CCNA lab today and priced some of the suggested equipment on eBay. Looks like I can put one together for ~$400 which is perfect. Your loopback interface suggestion cleared the confusion I was having. Other videos I watched, people were using their home network as some type of lab environment. I just wanted to make sure that wasn't necessary. Great suggestion on the Boson practice tests (Ex-Sim). I'd never heard of them before and it seems like a lot of people on the CCNA Reddit agree with you. Thanks again,

A little late commenting on this but congrats on passing! I'm going through the cbt nuggets course myself right now and I'm finding those videos paired with the virtual labs they have, as well as using packet tracer to follow along with what the instructors are doing in the videos is helping me tremendously to retain the information. My only concern right now is the OCG books. I'm planning on getting those soon and was wondering if you had any tips on how to use them. Right now, the videos are working very well for me, but the thought of making time to read those books cover to cover is giving me hella anxiety lol. Would using them maybe just to supplement the areas I'm weaker in be sufficient. Just as a fill in the gaps type thing?

I'm looking to get the CCNA as a foundation for moving into System Administration/Devops down the line. I feel like networking is my weak area as a help desk tech. Any thoughts on the topic coverage for a sysadmin type role? I don't think I want to a networking guy (at least as far as I know), but I want the foundation since you can't do tech nowadays without knowing the net side. I plan to try and learn Linux and general scripting/programming after the CCNA. Hope to see more, man. digging the videos so far. Appreciate the insight!

@TheBuffNerd7539
@TheBuffNerd7539 4 года назад
All of the labs that I did helped me remember the structure of the commands that I would enter in order to configure certain protocols. For example NAT, this is a protocol that requires a very long command when it comes time to configure it. If the exam were to ask for the proper command that needs to be entered for static NAT or NAT overload, remembering that structure/order will likely determine whether or not you get the question right or wrong. Practicing configurations in Labs will help cement those command in your head.

I did my exam at home, which was a little nerve racking because there is alot you have to take into consideration when testing from home. There is a lot of preparation you have to do before hand which is clear your desk area, unplug all monitors, take several pics of your surroundings, keep your hands away from your face.. All kinds of stuff. Make sure you have a stable internet connection because you will be monitored throughout the entire exam. Any serious interruptions could force you to have to retake the exam. No one can come into the room you are testing in, that will automatic cause you to fail. I had to lock my dog and girlfriend in the bedroom for 2 hours in order to knock out the exam lol. These are the main things I had to deal with when testing from home. If you can manage these things then you should be fine.
