Excited to see the Norfolk Southern O-Line between Charlotte and Winston-Salem under consideration. North Mecklenburg county has wanted commuter rail on it for 25 years.

Utilization of that will be solely up to NS. Charlotte dropped the ball on using that, as they didn't execute their tentative agreement fast enough and now NS is basically against it, as that provides their leverage on the NCRR lease (at least that is my understanding).

I have no association with North Carolina but I've been excited about their new Amtrak station for the past few years. I love the way they're doing it, incorporating it into a larger development rather than a stand alone building. But the fact the platform and tracks are completely done and the city hasn't been able to pressure the developer into breaking ground is a small disaster.

Recently announced Piedmont Service will extend to Wake Forest, NC. Basically first leg of the S-Line. This seems more like a commuter service to DT Raleigh from one of their major suburbs. Not sure if it's every Piedmont of just morning and afternoon Piedmonts. Interesting that map image at 28.37 shows a King's Mountain station. Interesting that services between Greenville/Spartanburg and Charlotte aren't mentioned or Columbia and Charlotte. Would relieve stress on I-85 and I-77 corridors. Have to imagine Amtrak will want to shift the Silver Star (it may be the "Silver-Capitol" by then) to the reopened segment of the S-Line as well.

Great to see the added extra trips to Charlotte and Raleigh that average up to nearly 60 mph with 110-125 mph track. A goal should be to get to an average speed of 80 mph.

Recently traveled on the Train 72 and we did hit 79 pretty frequently. Would like to see a more less stop routes from CLT-Rdu

Maximum speed on the Piedmont Corridor is 79mph. If it was 110mph, then the average speed would be in the neighborhood of 75 to 90mph, contingent upon number of stations, speed restricting curvature, etc.

Would love to see actual movement with the Harrisburg station. Would also like to see the direct Charlotte-Wilmington line that was proposed as well. Wonder why it isn’t shared

So as far as the platform....where will the station in Raleigh be located at? Will it be at the union station or will it be in the new bus station that they're building next to it ?

So just to see if I have this right: the S-Line is a segment of track that the two states are acquiring, but will still allow CSX trains to run on the track? I like that idea as long as the passenger trains actually get the right-of-way!
@donaldendsley6199
@donaldendsley6199 Год назад
They basically will. CSX basically operates as a short line operator on that route (no through running), so the trains CSX runs will be rather short and infrequent. With current planned trips there will only be about 10 trains a day of passenger service on the S-Line, so even a single track config would leave plenty of time for local freight traffic.

What about reports that the Federal Transit Administration has refused to fund rail-based regional transit in the Triangle. The feds say that Bus Rapid Transit is the better answer in a post-pandemic environment that has changed commuting patterns.This is a huge development. No federal money would put a stake through the heart of rail-based transit.

I heard that too as I am from the Triangle area. That news was heartbreaking.

Ughhh....When will the scam of BRT just die already. It's a recipe for driving or keeping people away from transit. If we want a modal shift, it has to be rail. A bus is just a bus, no matter how much makeup you slather on it. The ONLY time BRT comes remotely close to the convenience and appeal of rail is when you overbuild it to the point it is nearly the same cost. Literally there is almost never a case where BRT should be used. (Unless you are running a conspiracy to fail)

Iis there a direct connection between the light rail and Carolina Amtrak Trains in Charlotte NC yet?
@forestfeller

No, it is currently about a one-mile trip from Parkwood light rail station to the Amtrak station. The planned Gateway Station in Uptown has been constantly delayed but is supposed to be open in 2026-2027. He talks about it in this video at 12:48
