Allen Ludden obviously has been given a "heads up" on the non celebrity contestants as each one comes on to play Password,so he knows when a female contestant is employed and/or is a wife and mother. When a female contestant is introduced and he says to them "I understand you're a "working girl",I keep expecting at least one of them to tell Allen "No Allen,I do not walk the streets, nor do I work the street corners."
Interesting observation. Allen's own accent is sort of standard broadcast American; he was from Wisconsin originally, but his family moved to Texas when he was nine.
Why in the WORLD, in the last 2 responses, would Allen say, "give a clue," and then a half a SECOND later, they give the clicker. Even if they WANTED to respond, they couldn't! (and YES, I know why, but they should've known better to give it to them in the first place)!
Arthur Godfrey, mister "A Face in the Crowd" himself. I wonder if he was cheating here. The clues from the contestants were not that good and his eye movements and facial expression don't indicate concentration. Perhaps he was trying to redeem his image from the first time he was on when he became visible frustrated and let his "aw shucks" mask slip too much.
